Hard Kicks

Ever since Carmina got into our house, everyone has been on edge. I was the worse among us. I was worried she’d find a way to take Alex away from me. I didn’t want to suffer through that again. I couldn’t bare the idea of Alex turning his emotions off again, not with our baby on the way.

It’s been nice having Jack, Tay, and Cameron with us. They’ve been working around the house, helping Alex get everything moved in for us. Once Alex’s studio was built in, music filled the house. It made the spirits in the house way brighter. I loved hearing him play his guitar with Cameron and Jack while he and Tay harmonized together.

“Daddy makes me happy,” I whispered to myself as I rubbed my bump softly, “His music is so beautiful and it just makes me so happy when I hear it.”

I decided to go downstairs to listen to them better. I was always careful with walking around. With the speed of the baby’s growth, it made it very hard for my body to adjust. I wasn’t gaining the weight I needed to at the right pace. It put me at risk of hurting myself if I wasn’t careful.

When I got to the living room I stopped walking. I felt a sharp pain as I felt a kick from the baby. But the kick was so strong. It felt like someone punched me in my stomach with brass knuckles. I fell to my knees and groaned in pain.
♪♫♪
I heard a thud and then a groan from upstairs, making me stop playing. I heard her groan and booked it upstairs. I found Kenzie on her knees by the couch, leaning against the back of it as she held onto her bump.

“Kenzie,” I fell to my knees next to her, “What happened?”

“The baby,” she looked at me with tears in her eyes, “kicked. The baby kicked.”

I lifted her shirt and I saw the ugly bruise forming on her stomach. The baby hit her way too hard. If it had kicked her anywhere else, she could have been severally hurt.

“You’re lucky the baby didn’t kick you in a rib,” I told her, “That kick could have broken a bone. You need to be careful, okay. The baby is very strong and could kill you when it moves.”

“I know,” she replied as I wiped away her tears, “What are we going to do about it?”

“I don’t know,” I told her, “But I will need to start you on having my blood. It’ll help you heal from whatever the baby could do to you.”

Kenzie simply nodded as I helped her up and moved her to sit on the couch. Jack came around the corner and he noticed how shaken up Kenzie was. I looked over to him, sending him a look that we needed to go out tonight. I needed to talk with him about what happened.
---
“Alright we’re away from the house and Tay is staying with Kenzie while she sleeps,” Jack said once we got out into the woods behind the house, “What’s going on?”

“Kenzie got kicked by the baby today,” I told him.

“Was it the first time,” he asked.

“Yes,” I replied, “But the baby left a nasty bruise on her stomach.”

“Okay,” he ran a hand through his hair, “Alex, there is nothing we can do about the baby kicking her.”

“I know,” I told him, “But we need to keep a close eye on her.”

“Anything else you wanted to discuss while we’re away from the house,” he asked.

“I had a nightmare a week and a half ago,” I told him, “I got to meet my daughter’s conscious.”

“What,” he was as confused as I was at first, “How is that possible?”

“That’s the baby’s talent,” I told him, “Like how I can project pain. Well the baby can project certain thoughts onto others. She gave me a warning.”

“So you know the gender of the baby,” he theorized, “But she gave you a warning. What about?”

“Someone from Kenzie’s past is on the verge of returning,” I told him, “And that something dark from her past, something she was compelled to forget, will bring danger for the three of us.”

“What could she have been compelled to forget,” Jack wondered.

“I have no idea,” I told him, “And the only one to undo the compulsion is the one who did it. But Kenzie will remember when she turns.”

I was in a clearing within some forest, the sun was shining and I saw a girl sitting alone in the tall grass. I walked over to her, drawn by her presence. When I got close to her, she turned around and faced me. I gasped at seeing that the girl reflected mine and Alex’s features.

“You came,” she smiled up at me.

“Who are you,” I asked her.

“That’s not important right now,” she replied, “Just know you are in danger. Only Alex can protect you. You have obey the sire bond when you turn. He will know what’s best for you and your baby.”

I didn’t understand why this girl was being so mysterious with me. I wanted to understand what was going on. I wanted to know who she was. But she vanished from the dream, and I have no memory what happened next.

I woke up and sat up quickly. Alex was still sound asleep next to me. I rested my hand on my stomach. The baby had been still the rest of the day and into the night since I felt the kick. I knew more would come as the pregnancy continued.

Hopefully that girl in my dreams would continue to appear in my dreams. Maybe I could get answers from her about who she is. I needed to know who she was.

Notes

Sorry I messed up the story. I'm fixing it now.

So I just stumbled across this series and I really like what you have of it so far. :) You're a really great writer and not a lot of people have done the Alex as a vampire type of story. I've read a few but this one is definitely one of the top ones I've read. :)
I'm sad it was never continued, though. If you ever find the inspiration to continue it, I will be here to read. I would like to know how Alex and Kenzie's story ends.
I am definitely subscribing, so yeah, I'll be here if you continue. :) This story definitely deserves more recognition.
