Impossibilites

I woke up the next morning alone. Kenzie wasn’t in our bunk and it worried me. I then heard someone throwing up in the bathroom. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom door. I opened it to find Kenzie throwing up again. Her stomach bug wasn’t going away and I was worried about her. I peeked into the toilet bowl and I saw blood.

“Kenzie,” I was worried, “What’s going on?”

“Alex,” she looked and she looked scared out of her mind, “I’ll explain.”

“You better,” I told her, “But get cleaned up. I’ll be in the front with the guys.”

“Okay,” she replied as she flushed.

I walked out and left her behind. I was trying to rack my brain on what she could have that is making her vomit up blood. It made no sense to me. She hasn’t been able to eat anything. She looked so much thinner than when we went out for our date. Something was happening to her and it was scaring me.

I sat down next to Jack as I waited for Kenzie to come out. Tess and Matt had this look on their face. It was like they were hiding something from me. Then I noticed Tay was on our bus, and she had the same look on her face.

“What’s going with Kenzie,” I asked the three of them, “I can tell you three are hiding something.”

“They are,” I turned to see Kenzie holding something in her hand, “Because I asked them to.”

“Kenzie,” I stood up and walked over to her, “What’s going on?”

“Alex,” Tessa came and put a hand on my shoulder, “Please sit down. It’ll be better if you’re sitting.”

I sat down and looked at Kenzie. I tried to figure out what was going on. I wanted to find out what was going on with her. I needed to know. I was freaking on. What was wrong? What was she hiding? Why is she so scared?

“Alex,” Kenzie took a deep breath and closed her eyes, “I know you’ll be mad about what I’m about to tell you.”

“Kenzie,” I was getting antsy, “Please just tell me.”

“I,” she paused as she handed me the plastic thing in her hands to me, “I’m pregnant.”
What.

“No,” I felt the rage build up in me, “That’s not right. This can’t be happening. No no no no no.”

“Alex,” Tess grabbed my shoulders, “Calm down.”

“Calm down,” I looked at her, “Calm down. How the fuck am I supposed to calm down. Kenzie kept this from me for far too long.”

“Alex,” Kenzie was in tears.

“Don’t,” I got up and pushed Tess away from me, “I’m not letting you keep it. It has to go. I won’t let you keep.”

“I’m keeping it,” she backed away from me and shielded her stomach from me, “I’ve always wanted to be a mom.”

“This isn’t worth it,” I yelled at her, “Your life is not worth a baby.”

“Alex I want to be happy,” she was full on crying, “This baby would make me happy.”

“I am not about to watch you die,” I nearly screamed, “That baby is going to kill you. I am not about to lose you.”

“Alex,” she was up against the wall, “You can give me your blood. I can go into transition and become a vampire.”

“No,” I yelled at her, “Fuck no. I am not letting you become a vampire. You are aborting it.”

“She wants the baby,” Tay moved to stand between me and Kenzie, “I will not let you take this away from her. You owe her for all the trauma you caused her for the last five years.”

“Tay you have no idea what will happen to her during the pregnancy,” I yelled at her.

“Then do everything it takes to keep her alive,” Tay yelled back, “Stop fighting her. She can’t handle it now. Her emotions are heightened from her hormones.”

I stormed off of the bus. I needed to be away from everything. I was away from the venue at a local park. My anger with Kenzie was just radiating off me. I needed to get it out. I needed to hunt.

“Don’t even think about it,” I turned and saw Jack was sitting next to me.

“What do you want,” I snapped at him, “Come to tell me you knew too.”

“I had no idea what was going on,” he replied defensively, “But you don’t want to kill that woman.”

“Why not,” I asked him, “I need to get my rage out before I go anywhere near Kenzie.”

“Watch,” he ordered.

I watched as the woman knelt down. I then saw a little boy run to her clumsily. He was full of smiles and laughs as he ran into her arms. That’s when I put two and two together, the woman was his mother. I was about to make that boy an orphan.

Kenzie was an orphan. She didn’t get to know her parents. That’s why she wanted the baby. She wanted to have a family, like the one she never for to have. I felt like such a dick. I bent over and pulled on my hair.

“I’m a moron,” I groaned.

“Alex,” Jack was confused.

“I should have been more sensitive,” I leaned back and closed my eyes, “Kenzie’s an orphan. She never got to know her parents and feel loved by her mother and father. Now she wants to keep the baby to give a child the love she never had. God I’m such a dick.”

“Are you going to let her keep it,” he asked, “I have no idea how to handle a human being pregnant with a vampire’s baby.”

“I know what to do,” I told him, “You just have to be there for the delivery. I can handle the prenatal care.”

“Let’s go back and talk to Kenzie,” Jack stood up first, “Maybe we can find a squirrel on the way.”

“I’d rather get onto blood bags,” I told him, “I want to be strong enough to handle this entire thing.”
