"I don't do band members!"

Making friends

When I get on my patrol around the venue I get a call on my handheld transceiver that all the managers and tech crew on site use to stay in close contact with each other.
I hear a few crackles followed by a bit of white noise (those things are shit quality but anyway) then I can make out a very stressed sounding male voice through the speakers.

"Gi, this is Jeff, could you please meet me at main stage, we seem to have a huge celebrity meltdown here." I press the button and answer. "Okay Jeff, I'll be right over." And turn around to head to main stage.

When I arrive there I can see a tall, lanky and heavily tattooed guy that is trying to call somebody on his phone while pacing and cursing under his breath in front of an unhappy looking Jeff.

I tap Jeffs back and can see the relief in his eyes when he turns and recognises me. "Wassup, mate?" I say with a smile because he seems very stressed.

"Thank god you're here, Gi. This guys is freaking out and it's not my job to pamper the stars." He huffs annoyed.

"Look, one steel beam of the stage roof broke" Jeff starts to explain the situation "to fix it we have to remove the whole canopy and then I have to get someone up there to try and weld it, minimum work time two hours. And he has his set coming up in 60 minutes and has been shouting at me for the past twenty minutes." He points at the guy that has now noticed my arrival and comes over to us.

"Hi Austin" I stretch out my hand towards the guy. "I'm Gi. One of the site managers." I am introducing myself to the Of Mice and Men frontman because we haven't met yet.

He looks at me surprised as he shakes my hand and manages a small smile while his eyes travel up and down my body then he seems to remember his anger and he stares at me with his brows furrowed and runs his hands through his hair taking a deep breath about to say something.

"Okay, I got updated on the situation, let me see what I can do." I hold up my hand to stop him from starting to complain to me. I hold my gaze fixed on his eyes as I take out my phone to call the front office.

"Angela, we need to swap stages, which one is free for a set at 2:30pm?"
I can hear her tapping away on her keyboard. "The monster stage is free from 2:30 for an hour, honey" she practically sings through the phone. Angela is one of my favourite administrators and always happy and relaxed.

"No, that one is too far away, anything else?" I listen to more quick typing. "Mhm, I have the Kia stage at 3pm for 40 minutes."
"Perfect, that's right here beside us, we take that one. Can you please put the change on the notice boards. Of Mice and Men play Kia at 3pm. Thanks. Luv ya. bye"

I hang up and smile brightly at a confused looking Austin. "You guys are on Kia stage at three o'clock. Where is your tour manager, you have to move your equipment"

"I don't know, I have been trying to reach him the whole time." He holds his phone up to emphasise his statement. I stifle a laugh, most band members are so lost without their managers it's ridiculous.

"Look, we have to get going, we don't have too much time if you have to set up everything at the new stage." I tell him.

"But I don't want to swap stages, I want to play main stage, just push us back further." He argues stomping his foot like a three year old.

I roll my eyes but try to stay calm and friendly.
"Austin, I can't push the whole schedule back, that would mean the last band of the day misses out on their set." I try to make my point clear by talking slowly keeping eye contact.

But he just flails his arms around in annoyance and kicks the ground.
Oh god, those guys have a low frustration level. Anyway, we don't have all day, so I decide to just take the lead with or without his consent. I grab his hand and just drag him back to his buses. "We have to get your crew and every band member we can get a hold on, there is a lot of work and only little time."

He finally nods, picking up his phone again obviously trying to call some of his mates.
When I reach their crew bus I bang at the door. Gladly Tino opens and recognises me. I know him from a tour where Austin and Alan weren't in the band, this band has seen so many line up changes it's ridiculous.

"Tino get our guys rolling, we have to swap stages." Austin yells at him all back at being boss.

Tino looks at me for confirmation and I hold my hands up in an excusing manner. "Yeah man, I'm sorry, but main stage is under construction, you have---" here I look at my watch and get nervous. "Uhm, only 50 more minutes to get your stuff set up at Kia stage."

The next hour is just a blur, everybody is working frantically and I help out as much as I can, rolling equipment and handing cables, pedals and boxes to the tech guys who are doing a wonderful job.

"Of Mice and Men on in five" Brian the stage coordinator yells as we all are gathered backstage, exhausted but proud of ourselves for surviving the chaos and getting finished in time.

Alan comes up to me and clinks his bottle with mine giving me a hug. "Hey Gi, it was nice meeting you, we should hang out soon." He plays with my curls absentmindedly. "And thanks for your help."

I smile patting his back. "Anytime, mate, anytime. And don't worry, this is my job, I'm glad it worked out for you guys." We raise our bottles for a last sip.

Notes

Had to post this twice, bit of a filler though. Sorry.

@Nanook
I Completely Agree With You On Your Comments. I Also Thought It Was Still Over All A Good Story.

I'm excited to read them, I've started with the first installment for the Easy stories. :)
And no problem, I know what it's like to not receive feedback so I try my best to leave it with each story I read. :)

@Nanook
Well I admit this is not really my best story, I personally like the two Easy stories, can't wait for your opinion! Thank you so much for taking the time and giving your feedback. I have started writing on here after a two year break and I'm really struggling, so this is great help. :))

Hmmm... so I said I would check out your other stories so I'm making it my mission! :)
I just finished this one and hmm... not really sure how I feel about it. XD Greatly written, just sad with how it ended... like, her breaking contact with everyone. But it makes sense with the title I guess.
But it was an interesting read nonetheless. I was bummed she didn't end up with Alex, and then he just decided to permanently break contact with her, but that's how it goes I guess. She really had a bad day for the end there. But I'm glad things were maybe looking up with the new guy.
Overall, great job with this, it was awesomely written and I have to appreciate that. Something to maybe consider is an epilogue of sorts just to show how she ultimately ends up and if she does in fact manage to avoid band members altogether. But just a thought. :)
Onto the next story (saving your most recent for last, I will get there). :)
