Jack’s Point Of View

I’d had enough. Enough of Alex. Every day he kept talking about Lisa around me and I just agreed with him, he doesn’t kiss me on stage anymore and we’ve been drifting. A lot. Part of that is my fault because right after shows I’d go and find a bar to drink in because I couldn’t handle my own feelings. It pained me to see him with someone else. But today that was going to change, for the better. I’ll admit that I like Alex and it’s been that way for years now. I need to move on and then only way for me to do that is by leaving the band.

“Guys I need to talk to you.” I said to them as we were all sitting in the front room of the bus.

“What is it now Jack?” Alex said with anger and sarcasm in his tone.

“I’m trying to be serious Alex.”

“Since when are you ever serious?”

“Since I’ve decided to quit the band.” I spoke as if there was acid on my tongue and then walked back to my bunk to get all of my bags that were packed already.

“Jack you can’t just leave the band.” Alex said. I knew that he wouldn’t care.

“Watch me Gaskarth.”

“Jack why would you even think about leaving?” Rian asked.

“Lots of reasons.” I told him. “I can’t handle all this shit anymore and I need to move on.”

“Jack you’re not leaving the band, who’s going to fill in for you? You’re my best frie-“ I cut Alex off before he was able to finish his sentence. “I am not your best friend.”

“Yes you are. What the hell’s gotten into you lately? We don’t talk; you’re not your goofy self and something’s wrong Jack.” Alex stumbled on the last few words.

“I need to move on.” I mumble to myself. “Look, the band is great. I’m sure you’ll be able to find someone to fill in for me.” I reasoned.

“We’re not going to be a band if you leave. We’ve been in this band for 10 years Jack, why are you quitting now?” Now Alex was trying to reason with me.

“You want to know why I don’t want to be a part of this band anymore?” He nodded. “Because I can’t sit back and take another minute of you talking about how in love you are with someone that isn’t me. While you’re out buying vegetables for you girlfriend Alex I’m sitting at home questing why I love my best friend. Now if you don’t mind, let me get off this fucking bus.”

“Y-you’re gay?” Alex said with his jaw dropped.

“Yes, begin with the gay jokes why don’t you.” I said sarcastically. I was on the last step of the bus and ready to walk off when I felt someone grab my wrist and pull me back up the stairs.

“Jack I love you.” Alex said as he sat me on the couch.

“No you don’t, don’t lie to me Alex.”

“I’m not lying to you.” He said quietly.

“Explain the girlfriend then.” I said with my arms crossed.

“A cover up.”

“The way you’re constantly talking about her.”

“Trying to cover up my feelings.” Alex told me. “I swear if you leave this band shit’s going to happen. Fans will be more than upset. Everyone in the band will stop talking to each other and things will fall apart. There will be no contact between any of us and it’ll all be because you left the band Jack. You and I both know that.” Alex was right; we all knew that if someone left the band things would fall apart pretty quickly.

“I’m sorry.” I mumbled. “I was afraid.”

Alex pulled me into a hug. “Running away isn’t going to solve your problems; it’ll only make them worse.”
