Ave Maria
You were my last, my first.
You were always oblivious to the monster you had awakened in me; in your sweet seventeens, your eyes were never aware of the reactions that a simple word from you caused me - you could never guess that I, whom you had deemed your best friend, had fallen in love with you. Oh, innocent one; how blind were you, my dear.
It was April's first day of the year that ruined any balance I had managed to survive on, throughout the time I knew you; it was the dreadful day of the fall of the mighty, as you approached me a little too close. It was just morning, as the sun had just risen in the sky in the most timid way, hidden behind white clouds that promised no rain; I, too, wanted to hide behind them. There was a knock on my door even before I had been able to open my eyes and escape the land of hopeless sleeps and devanious dreams; it was what awoke me, and you realized as soon as I opened the door to your brilliant face, your eyes seeming to carry a glimpse of regret in their shine.
"Alex, what are you doing here?," I questioned you with a groggy voice, as my heart and mind raced; you had never planted foot in my room, before, so what could have changed?
"Can't I just come wake my best friend up?," you retorted, in your most casual tone; despite that, I could hear a certain nervousness in your melodic voice, which made me want to arch an incredulous eyebrow at you. "Okay... here's the thing - you really aren't gonna be a priest, right?" You started, which, although having surprised me, received a nod as an answer.
