A Walking Travesty

Brave

“This is so weird.” I laugh as I pick out what to wear tonight. “I’m getting ready for a date, with my date in the room. I feel like this is taboo or something.”

Jack leans down and kisses my forehead. “You are too cute.” He murmurs. “I’ll wait in the living room.”

Judging from Jack’s black sweatpants and white tank top, whatever we are doing really needs me to be comfortable. I pick a pair of black leggings I sometimes run in and a light pink Billabong tank top. I put on a pair of pink socks to match my shirt and slip on Jack’s Nike slips. I have really grown to like these shoes. They are so freaking comfortable. I clip my bangs off to the side, grab my phone, and run to the living room where Jack is waiting. As soon as he sees me, a grin splits across his face.

“You seriously cannot be more beautiful.” Jack pulls me in for an embrace.

My face nuzzles against his chest and I sigh happily. “So are you going to tell me where we are going?”

“Nope.” Jack grins and directs me towards the door.

His mom is working late tonight and Chris is sleeping over at Jason’s house. You would think that I’d worry about them doing stuff, but I really don’t. I’d rather him fuck a guy then get a girl pregnant. Plus, I don’t even know if Jason is gay. We texted Jack’s mom earlier to let her known our plans which she was fine with.

Jack and I climb in his truck and we take off. I toggle with the radio trying to find something to listen to. I settle on some classic rock while I sift through Jack’s CD collection. I decide on Allister and pop it in. I glance at Jack who smiles when the music fills the car.

“Damn I love your music taste.” He grins.

I slip my hand into his free hand and roll my window down, letting the cool air hit my face. We drive for about 15 minutes, making small chat every now and then about nothing in particular. All of a sudden, Jack pulls into the parking lot of SkyZone, a place with trampolines for walls and floors. I squeal excitedly and look at him. His eyes have a content gleam and a small smile on his face.

“This was worth it already.” He kisses me gently. “Your face is priceless.”

I blush and go to open the truck door.

“No.” Jack stops me.

I bunch my eyebrows in confusion as he hops out of the truck and runs to my door. He opens it for me and grins.

“After you my lovely date.” He sarcastically bows.

I giggle and hop out of the truck. He closes the door and I wrap my arms around his neck.

“Thank you.” I kiss his lips gently.

His arms find their way around my waist and his fingers lace themselves together. We kiss for a few moments, a sweet innocent kiss, and pull back. Our noses nuzzle giving each other Eskimo kisses. I laugh and pull back, grabbing his hand. We walk to the entrance happily and pay to get in. There are a couple other people here, but other than that, it’s almost as if we have the place to ourselves. Jack and I slip our shoes off and run to the trampoline floors.

For the next hour or so, Jack and I completely let loose. We forgot about everything going on at school, everything going on with my family, we forgot about everything except each other. Jack and I tried to do slam-dunks on the basketball hoops that they have mounted on some of the walls. We played HORSE, which of course I won. He swears it was because he let me. We threw foam balls at each other and laughed harder than we ever had. A couple of the people there were gymnasts practicing, so we sat back and watched them flip around. Jack watched closely and felt like he could do what they did. So I sat back and watched as Jack fell flat on his ass trying to do a backhand spring. That made me laugh the hardest. He sarcastically scowled and tackled me down to the bouncy floor. We wrestled and laughed until our stomachs were in stitches. Now, Jack is pulling me to my feet and leading me back to our shoes.

“Hungry?” He asks happily.

“Starving.” I admit patting my now sore stomach.

We put our shoes on and leave the building. Jack opens his truck door for me and runs to his side. Within minutes, we are back on the road.

“Where are we eating?” I ask, not expecting an answer.

“Home.” He smiles. “You’ll see.”

I nod my head as we head back to his house. When we arrive, Jack tells me to go shower.

“You can get in your pajamas if you want. I just need to make the actual dinner.” He grins as he slips his arms around my waist.

“You cooking? This sounds a little dangerous.” I tease him. “Should we have the firemen on standby?”

“Screw you!” He laughs. “I can cook amazing…when it comes from a box, bag or jar.” He admits sheepishly.

I giggle and make my way to the bathroom. I take my time in the shower, leaving him plenty of time to at least prepare whatever this meal is. I decide to take this time to shave my legs. With the razor in hand, I immediately hold it to my stomach. I gasp at my action and drop it in the tub. With shaky hands, I pick it back up and start to shave my legs. This time, I stay on course and do a clean job with no detours. I finish washing my hair and body, turn the water off, wrap myself in a towel, and pad back to Jack’s room. I sit on the floor next to my suitcase and begin to dig through it.

I grab a simple pair of black cheeksters and slip them on. I release the towel and throw it in the corner where Jack keeps his dirty laundry. Next I put on my Adventure Time pajama pants and go through Jack’s drawers to find one of his shirts. I slip on one of his giant Blink shirts and sigh happily at the scent. I throw my damp hair into a loose ponytail and pad out of the room and into the living room. I grin at Jack’s back who is trying to set up what looks like a tent.

He sets a book on the sheet corner, which is now placed on the coffee table. Slowly, the sheet slips out from under the book and I hear him curse under his breath.

“Need some help?” I giggle.

He turns around quickly. “These damn sheets won’t cooperate!”

I approach him and wrap my arms around him pulling him close. He relaxes into my embrace and wraps his arms around me.

“You are so warm.” He hugs me tighter. “Nice shirt punk.”

“Hope you don’t mind.” I murmur into his chest.

“You wear it better than I do.” Jack shrugs.

I pull back and walk towards his makeshift tent. A couple of the corners are planted firmly in place but one of them is giving him a problem. I go over to it and get to work. I stack one book on the stand, put the sheet on top of that, and put two other books on top of the sheet, giving it a little more leverage. I stand back stiffly, hoping the sheet will hold. It holds and Jack is staring at me, jaw dropped.

“I’ve been trying to fix that stupid corner for the past 10 minutes.” He grumbles.

“I used to make these for Chris and I all the time. We would hang out under here when our parents were too drunk or acting belligerent. Basically ever night.” I chuckle bitterly.

Jack slips his arms around my waist and pulls my back to his chest. His lips find my neck and kiss tenderly.

“So dinner…” I smile.

He pulls back and walks toward the kitchen. “Stay there.” He calls over his shoulder.

I wait and Jack comes back with two plates of ravioli covered in alfredo sauce. I smile splits across my face and he signals for me to pull apart the sheets so we can get inside. I do so and follow him in on our knees. I gasp when I see the inside.

There are a bunch of couch cushions, pillows and blankets strewn across the floor. His laptop is propped open and the title menu for Brave is on the screen. Small, lap tables are waiting for us. There’s a small cooler sitting in the corner.

“Jaaaack.” I whine happily. “This is the sweetest thing ever.”

He sits the plates on the tables and sits down with me. “Anything for my perfect princess.”

He cues the movie up, grabs two Cokes out of the cooler, and we begin to eat.

“Holy shit. This is so good babe.” I rave over the ravioli.

“Like I said, I can cook anything out of a box, bag, or jar.” He laughs as he shovels food in his mouth.

We eat and watch Brave, our legs intertwine. I currently feel like I’m on cloud nine. Jack has spoiled me to no end. I know he’s been feeling bad about all this Alex drama lately. This completely makes up for it. I really don’t like Alex, but at least the whole Sasha thing is basically over. At least I think it is.

Jack and I finish eating and set the plates and tables aside. I crawl into his lap and he wraps his arms around me tightly. We finish the movie wrapped in each others embrace. He wipes the tears that I didn’t even know escaped my eyes. Brave has to be one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. It ALWAYS makes me cry.

“I hope these are happy tears.” Jack murmurs.

“I just love that movie so much. The ending always gets me.” I sniffle with a smile.

“You are so freaking cute Emma.” He nibbles my ear.

I turn around and kiss him slowly. My legs wrap around his waist and my hands find his face. His arms encircle my waist and pull me as close as he can to his body. My mouth parts and his mimics mine. Our tongues wrestle around gently when all of a sudden, Jack’s phone rings.

“Fuuuck.” Jack groans as he reaches into his pocket. “Hello?” He answers.

I hear some mumbled talking on the other line and I decide to kiss Jack’s neck. My lips work their way up and down his neck, nipping at it softly. His free hand runs up and down my back lightly.

“I’ll be there in a second.” He mutters.

I pull back immediately with my jaw dropped and look at him. He hangs up.

“I can explain.” Jack starts quickly. “Something is going on with Alex and he needs my help. He genuinely sounded like he was in trouble. If it was bullshit I swear Emma I wouldn’t leave.” He places a strand of my hair behind my ear.

“Okay.” I reply half-heartedly. “I know you mean it. Just please stay safe. I need you back here in one piece.”

He nods and kisses me with so much love, it’s impossible to stay mad. We crawl out of the tent and I walk him to the door.

“I love you Emma.” He murmurs looking deep in my eyes.

My heart skips a beat and I reply weakly. “I love you too Jack.”

And with that, he disappears out the front door.
