Mackenzie's POV

It was Christmas break and as usual, I don’t give a shit about what’s going on around me. I’m like a bear during winter. I hibernate and avoid the world. Sadly, dad’s not making it very easy. I was sneaking into the kitchen, trying to not get noticed by dad. He’ll just tell me to do something and I don’t really want to. I’m just lazy I guess.


“Kenzie!” Oh God no, not dad, not now. I tried to tiptoe back to my room. “I can see you, you know.” Great. Busted by the man himself.

“Hey dad.” I turned around and smiled awkwardly.

“So,” He hasn’t stopped his sentence until I cut him off.

“No. I know you’re going to tell me to do something, but no. I’m too tired. Let me sleep.”

“You’ve been sleeping all day. Now, listen young lady before you cut me off again. My friends are asking me to go on a trip and I would like to join.”

“Oh okay. I can take care of myself it’s okay. Let me know when you’re going.”

“It’s not when I will be going, it’s when we’ll be going.”

“What? No.”

“Come on, your friends are gonna be there too. It’ll be fun. You know how my friends are. They’re fun right? They’re perverted jokes never get old, so come with me.”

“But dad, a trip isn’t really my thing… Basically, the outside just isn’t really my thing.”

“Then what’s your thing? Food, Game of Thrones, and sleep?” Okay, now that got me. I paused for while over how true that was.

“I guess.” I said then giving him a guilty smile.

“Please..”

“Fine, but don’t expect me to do anything rather than sleep okay?”

“Okay. Pack your bag; we’re going tomorrow morning. Bright and early.”

“Got it.”

I slept rather early that night. Right after I packed my bag, I didn’t waste anytime to get some rest. Dad wasn’t joking when he said early. We were leaving at 4 in the morning. I’m guessing we were going somewhere that might take some time considering that uncle Rian was driving.


Graham, like a gentleman he was, helped me with my bag, which I didn’t really have a problem with. I guess he knew that I was sleepy so he gave a helping hand. I sat next to aunt Cass who was sleeping and Graham in the backseat, while dad and uncle Ri sat in front seat.


The journey was rather quiet, only the occasional chatter between uncle Ri and dad could be heard. I overheard we were meeting the Barakats and Gaskarths on the spot. It was something I was quite excited about. I missed my friends. I noticed that Graham and his mom were already sleeping and looking at others taking a nap is not something I do well. I usually fall asleep too so as predicted, my eyes closed shut.


The rest of the ride was kind of a blur. I slept well in the car and waking up on aunt Cass’ shoulder is not a bad thing. She was the one who woke me up and announced that we were already in our mysterious destination. I saw Colin and Sebastian with their bags around them, looking just as excited. On the other hand, Graham and I looked like we’ve been drunk for a long time, bags under the eyes, bed hair, and comfy sweatpants.


“Woah, you guys.” Colin shocked.

“You look miserable.” Sebastian added.

“We are miserable.” Graham said sleepily. “Didn’t get much sleep last night and we had to leave early in the morning, so nope, I’m not gonna look as good James Bond.”

“What about you? Lack of sleep too?”

“Huh? Oh no, I just like to sleep and you know me, I’m not a ‘road trip’ kind of person.” I said sheepishly.


My mind was drifting off. I realized, Graham’s lack of rest was getting him too, but for some reason, Colin and Sebastian were on fire. Once our parents stopped catching up and checking out the place, they lead us to our rooms.


“Don’t worry Kenzie, I promise you’ll have fun.” Dad said putting his arms around me, embracing me from the side.
