Bucket list

Alex gazed longingly out the window, waiting for Erin to arrive home. She was out with the girls and said she would be in around 4 but it was 4:15 now and Alex couldn't help but worry just a little. He knew it was stupid because she was most likely fine but his mind liked to think of other scenarios. In an attempt to put his mind at ease, he decided to go upstairs to hang up all the ironing he had done earlier.

A month ago, the idea that Alex could have been ironing his own clothes would have been seen as a huge joke but he was doing everything he could to help give Erin as much rest as possible. He grabbed the pile of shirts and jeans and started to fold them, put them on hangers and hang them up. As he opened the wardrobe he noticed something out of the corner of his eye which he hadn't seen in a long time. It was a scrapbook Erin had put together a few years back. He opened up the soft leather cover and looked through all the photos of Erin from when she was younger. He laughed as he saw photos of the couple pulling funny faces to the camera and he traced over photos of the woman he loved, her hair once long and silky now no longer attached to her head. He turned the last page expecting to find the photo of Erin and her father which she had originally stuck there but he found something quite different.

A piece of paper fell into his hands, and he opened it careful not to rip the delicate sheet. At the top the words 'Bucket List' were sprawled in Erin's handwriting along with a date, 12/4/2014 the day she found out she had cancer. He went to read the rest of the words when he heard a call from downstairs followed by the slam off a door. Dropping the paper under the bed, he ran down to see Erin, telling himself he would be sure to read through that later on.
