All My Life I've Been Searching For Something

The next day, I took the day off school sick. I'd thrown up 4 times at stupid times in the morning, managing to get about 15 minutes sleep in between. I turned my phone off, not wanting to be disturbed as I spent my day off sleeping.


I was brought out of my slumber when the doorbell rang. I dragged myself out of bed, wrapping my duvet around my almost naked body to go and answer the door.

"Jesus christ, Alex. You look like shit"

"Thanks, Rian" I sighed as I let him in.

"You don't sound too good either" a voice said. It took me a moment to figure out that the voice was Jack's.

"What are you doing here?"

"We came to check on you" Rian said as if it was obvious.

"No, the exchange student. What are you doing in my house?"

"I'm here with Rian"

"Why?! You don't fucking like me, I don't fucking like you. Get the fuck out"

"Alex!" Rian told me off sternly.

"What! I don't give a shit, I'm ill and I don't want to be fucking putting up with your crap, Jack!"

"Ok, I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot. I'm sorry for being a bit of a dick to you, okay?"

"I don't want to hear it" I huffed, lying down on the floor, still wrapped up like a burrito in my duvet.

"Can't you just let me explain?"

"No. I'm ill and all I want to do is go to sleep. Have you spoken to Zack today, Rian?"

"No"

"Do you know where he is?"

"Nope"

"Fine. I'll just call him"

"Is there anything I can get you? Y'know, whilst we're here"

"Nah, I'm fine. Thanks for coming over though"

"No problem, buddy. We'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"

"Mhmm..seeya Rian"

"Seeya. Oh and by the way, you don't have to keep being so rude to Jack. He's not here for that long. Don't be the one to ruin his experience. He's tried to apologise. If you keep shooting his apologies down, that makes you the dick. C'mon, Jack" Rian said before they both left. I sighed and rolled over to grab the house phone, calling Zack and shamelessly asking him to come over and cuddle with me. It was quite cruel to be doing romantic things with someone who I had no romantic feelings for but I figured I wasn't really leading him on because he already knew I didn't like him like that.


I sighed, knowing that in about a week, I'd probably cave and my guilty conscience would overcome me and I'd call it off, feeling like I was unfairly leading him on. I guess I'd better make the most of it.
