Guts

Over the next few weeks, I was missing Jack more and more each day.

Jackie was missing him as well, asking me everyday when he would be home. I told her the same thing everyday: "He'll be home soon, sweetheart." She always pouted and nodded sadly.

"We both miss you, Jack-o," I told him over Skype. He smiled sadly.

"I miss you too, Rebecca," he replied.

"I called the wedding planners yesterday," I said, bringing up a new conversation.

"And?" Jack asked.

"And, they'll be here on Saturday," I said.

"Are you gonna be able to plan it without me?" Jack asked.

"Yeah. But you'll be back before the plans are even finished," I said, and Jack nodded.

"Definitely. Let Jackie help you though.. she's actually the one who suggested that I propose.. not that I wasn't already thinking about it though," Jack said, muttering the last part quickly. I laughed and put my face in my hands.

"That's so cute, Jack!" I said with a smile. His cheeks were a little pink. Jackie entered the living room in her pajamas, her hair a mess.

"Mommy? I can't sleep," she said. I smiled and waved her over, and she came over, sitting next to me on the couch. Jack's eyes lit up at the sight of her, and I bit my lip.

"Look Jackie! Look who it is!" I said, pointing to Jack. Jackie followed my finger, and grinned when her eyes met Jack's.

"Daddy!" She said happily. Jack's grin matched hers perfectly.

"Hey, Rebecca!" Alex exclaimed from behind Jack as he lent down to see me.

"Hey Alex," I replied casually. He nodded at me with a smile, and his eyes flickered over to Jackie.

"Hey little one! How are you?" Alex asked.

"I'm good," she replied shyly. I think she forgot who Alex was.

"Jackie, it's uncle Alex!" I said. She lent her head on my shoulder, and I could tell she was trying not to fall asleep.

"You should get her to bed. I'll talk to you tomorrow. I love you," Jack said.

"I love you too, Jack," I said softly. Alex looked between us with a smile. Jack signed off, and I quit Skype. I shut the computer off, and I carried Jackie up to her room. I tucked her into her bed, and left her room, heading into mine. I closed the door behind me and sat on the edge of the bed, just thinking.

I was so lucky to have Jack. He was the perfect father top Jackie, he was funny, attractive, and he actually loved me, unlike the guys in my previous relationships. That's what I was scared about when Jack and I got together. I was scared that Jack only wanted me for sex, and then he'd leave me the first chance he got. I was happy though. Happy that the man I was so in love with loved me back equally.

I stood up and changed into my pajamas, and I got under the covers on my bed. I laid there for a while, just thinking. Thinking about how I ended up this way; a beautiful daughter and an amazing husband-to-be. I gazed at my engagement ring and smiled.

I missed my dad. I wanted him back in my life, but I knew that he would try and get me to work at the family company. Last I heard, he was the only one left working there out of the now seven of us. I was still ticked off that he'd raped my mother. She didn't deserve his shit. Any of it.

After a while of thinking in the dark, my eyelids started to droop, and eventually they closed.

Hey guys! I finally updated! Sorry it took so long for an update. I was at the aquarium and oh my lord.. My feet are killing me. Then My dad for pissed because I didn't want hamburgers, so he made is walk three miles to Round Table. Whatever. This trip has been shit.
