Chapter Forty-Two: Rebel Love Song
A week later, I woke up to my Twitter being flooded with notifications.
"Oh no," I murmured as I read through all the tweets I was mentioned in. Some were pretty fucking harsh, others were supportive. Someone had started a rumour about me, and it was not good. I saw a tweet that Jack had posted about the matter, and I had to smile.
Jack Barakat @jackalltimelow
What's all this about Rebecca being pregnant?
He seriously wasn't believing that I was, was he? I exited Twitter and pulled up his contact, pressing call. I held the phone up to my ear and waited anxiously for him to answer.
"Hey, babe! Have you gone on Twitter?" Jack asked.
"That's actually what I was calling about, and I can assure you that I am not pregnant," I said. I heard Jack sigh.
"Alright. I was starting to get a little worried there," he said. I laughed slightly.
"So what are you up to?" I asked. I had been watching all his keeks, reading all his tweets, and liking his pictures on Instagram. I would occasionally comment, and I would get a silly reply back from him. It was the little things that made us work. I wasn't being all creepy/stalker girlfriend, no. I was just interested in his daily activities, making sure he was having fun.
"Not much, actually. Getting ready for soundcheck in Boston," he said.
"What time are you playing tonight?" I asked.
"About six-thirty this evening. Times a little different, but I'll get used to it," he said. I smiled.
"Jackie misses you too," I said.
"Is she awake? If not.. tell her that I miss her too, and that I love her," he said.
"Can do, baby. I love you," I said.
"I love you too, Becca," Jack replied, and I hung up. I got out of bed and made my way downstairs, almost falling down the stairs because I was wearing socks, and the stairs were wood. I entered the kitchen and decided against making breakfast: instead, I had some cereal and some coffee.
"Mommy.. I don't feel good," Jackie's small voice said as she stood in the doorway of the kitchen. I set my spoon down and went over to her, crouching down to her level. I felt her forehead, surprised by how hot it was.
"You're burning up, sweetheart. Go lie down on the couch and I'll take your temperature, okay?" I asked. Jackie nodded and did what I asked, and I put my dishes in the sink. I checked the drawers for the thermometer, finding it rather quickly. I shook it for a minute do it would give me an accurate temperature, and I walked out to the living room where Jackie was.
"Keep it under your tongue, alright?" I asked as I handed it to her, and she nodded as she stuck it in her mouth.
After about minute and a half, I took the thermometer back and read it.
"101.2. You'll be resting today, alright, sweetie?" I asked, and she slowly made her way back upstairs, but not before I told her what Jack told me to tell her.
Today was going to be a long day.
