Summary
Alex is a human.
Well duh.
But the thing is, Alex is a very clever human. Which means he didn't get burnt to a crisp by the firebombs; Alex is an immune human. Which means he didn't catch the Blitz; Alex is also a smart human. Which means he's avoided the Visiting's Elites along with his parents until he runs in Jack, which proves he is also a very insignificant, weak little human.
Jack is an alien.
Well.. not duh.
But the thing is, Jack is in the Military. Which means he watched from above when the firebombs were dropped and when the Blitz ravaged the world below him. Jack is also an Elite, which means he's a super soldier, ready for action, ready to kill. But it also means he's allowed to keep pets, and one just may become a little too much to handle.

Characters
Alex Gaskarth
Alex is an immune human who is just trying to survive. He's avoiding capture at all costs, and would rather die than have to belong to one of the Elites. All Alex wants is for the world to go back to before the invasion. But sometimes you can't have everything you want
Jack Barakat
Also known as Number 182, he's Captain of the 5th Ground-Squad. He is an Elite as the humans call him, or as his people say, he is a Conqueror. His goal is to annihilate the entire human race, that is the goal of all his people. Hence his ranking as squad captain, he follows the rules to the letter. But as an extra incentive, as if meaningless killing wasn't enough, his leaders have passed the ruling that each Elite is allotted one pet of their findings. And by pet, they mean a human to treat as a slave. A human for the Elites to spend time with when they aren't out killing. The pets are supposed to keep the Elites calm and allow for a break from work, but Jack's pet may prove to be more than he bargained for.
