Me Without You

Jack. (Day 53)

“Uh, Miss Roberts?” The nurse stood at the door and called me in. I looked at Cass and Jess and they both nodded, following me into the room. The doctor stood from her desk and shook our hands, looking slightly confused about the others presence.
“So, Miss Roberts, you think you’re pregnant?” I nodded and she picked a clipboard up off her desk. “We’ll it’s nice to meet you. I’m Dr. Young but you can call me Grace.” She raised her eyebrow to Cass and Jess who accordingly introduced themselves. “Sanity control?” She laughed and both the girls agreed. “Right then, we’ll start with a few questions.” I nodded and took a seat on the bed while Cass and Jess settled down in the two arm chairs that were huddled in the corner of the room. “Have you missed your last period?”
“I’m currently four weeks late.” I answered and Grace nodded, scribbling on her board.
“Morning sickness, nausea?”
“I’ve been feeling slightly nauseas but I haven’t been sick.”
“Mood swings?” Nod. “Tender or swollen breasts?” Nod. “Fatigue?” Nod.
“Yes, most definitely, but that could just be due to touring.” Grace nodded, my ‘occupation’ had been scribbled down on the top of my file by one of the nurses when I signed in.
“Frequent urination?” Shake. “Cravings?” Cass and Jess burst out laughing at this and I stared them down.
“She has been complaining about the lack of grilled cheese sandwiches for the last twenty-four hours!” Cass laughed.
“Should I take that as a yes?” Grace giggled and wrote it down. I gave Cass and Jess daggers for finding my cravings funny. “Have you had a shortness of breath?” I shook my head. “Okay, so I assume you’ve taken a home pregnancy test?”
“Yeah, three. They all came back positive.” Grace smiled and looked down at her clipboard.
“Well from that it seems like you are indeed pregnant, but we’ll have a quick look just to be sure.” Grace typed something into her computer and turned back to me. “When was the first day of your last period?” I sat back on the bed and did the mental math.
“Around the 19th of May?” Grace nodded and motioned to me to lay back. After she had… uh, rooted around, for a bit, she smiled and told me I could get dressed again.
“Well, you’re definitely pregnant, about a month along, and I’ll say you’re due around the 11th of March.” I smiled at Cass and Jess who clapped their hands excitedly. “And we’ll see you back here for your scan when you’re twelve weeks!” I gave Grace a quick hug and thanked her before leaving the clinic with Jess and Cass.
“I can’t believe it!” Cass squealed. “It’s so exciting!”
“Yeah, but do you know whose it is?” Jess, always the voice of reason.
“Jack.” I whispered. “It’s Jack.” Both of the girls looked at me as we stood around Jack’s car which I had stolen since we were back in Baltimore.
“You picked Jack?” Cass looked genuinely surprised.
“Really?” Jess raised an eyebrow. “I thought you’d pick Alex.” I shook my head.
“No, it’s always been Jack. It’s been Jack since I was sixteen.” I laughed, remembering sneaking through his window on his seventeenth birthday. “I had this daydream when I found out I was pregnant and my whole future with him like, flashed before my eyes.” I couldn’t help but cringe at how cheesy it sounded.
“You’re going to have to break the news to the others.” Jess frowned and I nodded. I wasn’t sure how I was going to do that quite yet, but I’d find a plan. “You’ll have to tell him you’re pregnant too. Are you sure it’s his?” I nodded. I had used protection with the others. This kid was definitely Jacks.
“Well this is exciting!” Cass cheered.
“Do you guys mind if I drop you back at Rian’s?” I asked. “I want to wait for Jack to get home.” Cass and Jess both agreed and I sped through Towson so I could get to Jack’s before he did.

To: Jack

Meet me at yours when you’re done with the guys. I’ve got something to tell you ;)

I sat in Jack’s living room, watching the highlights from yesterday’s baseball. The door clicked open and I whipped around to see Jack staring at me. I jumped up from the couch and ran at him, wrapping my legs around his waist and smashing our mouths together. Jack didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the situation and kissed me back instantly.
“I thought you were being platonic?” Jack mumbled against my lips. I shook my head and giggled. “You decided?” I nodded and kept kissing. “Wait,” He pulled his face away and eyed me carefully. “I won?” I smiled at him and cupped his cheek in my hand.
“Jack, you always won.” He placed me down on the ground gently, and started to pace, something he only did when he was anxious. “What’s wrong?”
“Alex. Zack.” Jack whispered. “What the hell are we gonna do? How are we gonna tell them?” I grinned and hugged him from behind, forcing him to stop moving.
“I was plotting while I waited, and I came up with a plan.” I pulled Jack so we fell onto the couch and cuddled myself up on his lap. “We don’t tell anyone for a bit, and I’ll become distant from the other three and visibly closer with you.” Jack mulled this over and then kissed my forehead. “So it won’t be so much of a blow?”
“That could work.” Jack laughed. “Or we could just tell them straight up.” I looked down at my hands and started picking at my nails.
“There would be a problem with that.” Jack raised an eyebrow and adjusted me on his lab. “Jacky, I need to tell you something.” Jack smiled at my nervousness and set me down beside him.
“I think I know what this is but go ahead.” Really? I knew Jack could read me like a book, but how the hell could he have figured this one out?
“I’m…” I couldn’t say it. This was far more nerve racking than it should have been.
“You’re pregnant.” Jack finished my announcement for me and I started at him, what the fuck?
“How do you do that!?” I yelled, hitting him playfully. “You always know my announcements before I say anything! You don’t even look surprised!” Jack shrugged.
“Lucky guess. I’ve had that hunch for two weeks, I’ve had some time to get used to the idea.” I laughed and reached my face up to kiss him. “And no, I’m not mad. I’m quite excited.” I beamed and attacked him with kisses.
“I love you, I love you, I love you.” I laughed as I plastered his face in lipstick stains.
“You do realise you will have to tell everyone, right?” Jack smiled kindly but I could tell he was worried about the reaction that would ensue.
“Yeah, Alex is gonna flip out. But I’m more worried about telling Vic and Mikey. They’re family.” Jack took my hand and started tracing circles in my palm.
“You’ll be fine. Call them round and we can tell them together.” I nodded and flicked a text to Vic asking him to bring Mike around as soon as they could. “It’ll be fine. Stop panicking.”
Mike and Vic arrived around ten minutes later and let themselves in.
“Hey, Jase.” Mike smiled as he plopped down on one of the armchairs.
“I swear,” Vic laughed as he walked into the house. “If you got her pregnant, Barakat, I’ll kill you.” Jack looked at me, panicking and I grabbed his hand before staring, shocked, at my big brother. Vic looked between Jack and I and Mike burst out laughing.
“You’ve got to be shitting me.” Vic gasped, gazing at my stomach.

@Evie
Ahh okay I get it :)

I really hope I didn't sound mean. If I didn't like your story I wouldn't have bothered. I just thought it was good enough for me to point out.

@we-forgot-monday
Hey :) I kind of wanted that to be the point. Jasey seems so perfect and everyone seems to like her so much that her downfall is how possessive she becomes over everyone. How they're her boys and no one else's unless she totally approves of them. I read a lot of fanfiction where the female is 'perfect' in a way and I wanted to try push that in a different way where her perfection and popularity is her downfall. For example, how she can't choose between Alex or Jack but still expects both of them to hang around for her and not move on, which ultimately all comes from her insecurity but we haven't got there yet ;) I'm starting to focus more on that side of the story now as its coming toward the end but I thought I should just put that out there and I'm really do apologise if it's unclear! The story did begin with a lack of character put into Jasey which I'm trying to slowly fix up through both the chapters coming up and the prequel.
Thanks for your comment!

I really don't mean to sound bitchy or mean but why does everyone like Jasey so much? What has she done? She seems kind of perfect, which seems kind of unrealistic. I haven't finished the story yet but does she have any flaws? Also why are they all her boys? Is no other female allowed to be a part of their lives but Jasey? This story is well written and there are certain parts of it that I really like, its just that those things don't really make sense. I really hope I didn't hurt your feelings or anything like that, because I am in no means a perfect writer, but I hope its like constructive criticism.

@Rebecca.Troy
Lets face it, there's never enough drama :)
