Me Without You

Jess (Day 36)

It had been a week since the night I spent with Alex. Nothing was official yet, but the rumours were already circulating online from instagrams and tweets. Admittedly, some of Mike’s fans weren’t too chuffed about the change in relationship status and I was getting a lot of hate for it, but over the years I’d learnt to ignore it. We were all standing around at Jackson airport, waiting for Jess’ flight to land. “Calm down, Jaime.” Mike laughed, he was practically bouncing off his seat. “I haven’t seen her in a month. I’m allowed to be excited.” Jaime snapped. The doors of the arrivals get slid open as a couple of people exited security. We all jumped to our feet, eager to see Jess. I left my seat with Alex and Zack and slid my hand through Vic’s. Over the years I had grown insanely close to Jess and she was the one girl I could tell anything to. With every person that came through the gates, I got more and more on edge. Where was she? Jaime was pacing behind us all, too nervous to be standing still. It was cute how even after they had been together all this time they were still like two loved-up teenagers. Suddenly, Vic nudged me in the side as a dark haired woman appeared through the door. “Jess!” I squealed as I jumped the barrier and attacked her. “Jasey!” She dropped her bags and wrapped her arms around me as an unhappy Jaime stood behind me, glaring. Jaime cleared his throat and Jess and I slowly let go of each other, Jess turning to face him. “Hey there, Himes. Miss me?” She laughed before jumping into his arms. Their lips connected the moment she was in his arms and I returned to lean my head on Vic’s shoulder. “It’s gonna be great to have her on tour.” I smiled. “I need my big sister.” Vic nodded in agreement as we laughed at the two get more and more tangled with each other. “Okay!” Mike yelled. “Break it up. We’ve got three days break and I want to do fun shit!” Jess and Jaime pulled apart as Alex’s arms snaked around my waist. Jess raised an eyebrow and pointed to me. “You. You’re texts were vague. We need to talk.” I turned and hid my face in Alex’s chest. I was going to be interrogated at some point this weekend as it was not going to be fun. “Laser tag!” Vic burst into Alex and I’s hotel room. I pulled the covers up to chin and Alex flipped him off. “Before you ask, I got your key off Matt. Wake up, it’s 11am. We’re going out to the family centre or whatever. Live Mario Kart.” He winked before slamming the door shut and running off to wake the next pair. I groaned and rolled out of bed, claiming the shower before Alex. I showered quickly before straightening out my hair and putting some simple make up on. Alex gave me a quick kiss as he passed me on his way to the bathroom. “Morning, gorgeous.” He grumbled before turning the water on. “Morning.” I pushed my bag open and checked the weather outside. It looked relatively decent. I pulled out a pair of plain black skinny jeans and a white printed muscle tee. Slipping on my vans Alex appeared, grinning wildly with his wet hair gleaming under the florescent lights. I shook my head as he approached me. “Don’t you dare. Alex!” I screeched as he jumped on me, shaking his hair, spraying me with water. “Alex! You bastard!” He laughed as he ran off, hiding in the bathroom, no doubt to do his hair. I packed some make up and my purse into my handbag along with an umbrella in case the weather turned sour. “You ready to go, Jay?” Alex appeared from the bathroom. I nodded and picked up my bag to wait by the door while he pulled on his shoes. “Can you put the room key in your bag?” I grabbed the swipe card off the counter and dropped it into my bag dramatically. Alex laced his fingers through mine as I made my way out the door. “Buenos Dias, Chica!” Mike smiled as he walked down the hall from his room. “¿Cómo dormiste anoche? ¿Fue una noche ocupada?” He winked and I slapped him over the shoulder while Alex stared, gaping at us. “Cierra la boca. Usted no es gracioso, Mike.” I snapped before getting in the elevator. “Wait, you speak Spanish?” Alex mused, his arm wrapping around my waist. “She practically lived with us for five years.” Mike laughed. “Of course she speaks Spanish.” Alex nodded approvingly before leaning in and whispering that it was hot. The ride was spent with Alex trying to get me to translate what Mike and I were talking about. I rolled my eyes as the elevator reached the lobby and walked out between the two boys. Jess waved at me from where the rest of our friends were waiting. “The family centre is only a five minute walk away so do you guys want to risk it?” Matt asked. “It’s a nice day.” We all agreed and took off onto the streets of Jackson. “Okay, so what the hell?” Jess pulled me into a Victoria’s Secret in the mall we were exploring. The boys were going on an alcohol run for a party tonight. “Tell me what’s going on.” “I don’t know, Jess. I freaked out.” I explained. “I was with Mike and it was fine, and then Alex and I… Jess, I couldn’t move on.” She pulled me in so I was leaning on her shoulder. Her hand ran through my hair and it felt good to be back with her, she was like a big sister to me and I missed her. “You’ll be fine, hun. Just make sure you don’t hurt anybody in the process. It is kind of a mess, Jase.” I laughed and pulled away to look through the racks of underwear. “Yeah, I know. But I still love Alex, y’know? I think Mike knows that.” “Hun,” Jess threw a leopard print bra at my face. “He wouldn’t have broken up with you and pushed towards Alex if he didn’t know that. But he’s not really the one I’m referring to.” I raised an eyebrow at her as I picked out a couple of bras. I hadn’t really brought enough clothes when I came back to tour. “I mean Jack and Zack, Jasey. I was speaking to Cass and she reckons both of them are still hung up on you.” I sighed as tossed the items on the counter. Jess was right, things were stickier than I thought. All the feelings I had felt for each of them, the entire emotional trauma of my days in high school, my internal war between the chemistry of Jack and I, the simplicity and ease of Zack and I and the unexplainable attraction of Alex. Everything came flooding back. Oh god, oh dear god. “Well, that’s fantastic.” I groaned as I swiped my card. “Just great.” This wasn’t going to be fun, because, eventually, I would have to hurt someone.

@Evie
Ahh okay I get it :)

I really hope I didn't sound mean. If I didn't like your story I wouldn't have bothered. I just thought it was good enough for me to point out.

@we-forgot-monday
Hey :) I kind of wanted that to be the point. Jasey seems so perfect and everyone seems to like her so much that her downfall is how possessive she becomes over everyone. How they're her boys and no one else's unless she totally approves of them. I read a lot of fanfiction where the female is 'perfect' in a way and I wanted to try push that in a different way where her perfection and popularity is her downfall. For example, how she can't choose between Alex or Jack but still expects both of them to hang around for her and not move on, which ultimately all comes from her insecurity but we haven't got there yet ;) I'm starting to focus more on that side of the story now as its coming toward the end but I thought I should just put that out there and I'm really do apologise if it's unclear! The story did begin with a lack of character put into Jasey which I'm trying to slowly fix up through both the chapters coming up and the prequel.
Thanks for your comment!

I really don't mean to sound bitchy or mean but why does everyone like Jasey so much? What has she done? She seems kind of perfect, which seems kind of unrealistic. I haven't finished the story yet but does she have any flaws? Also why are they all her boys? Is no other female allowed to be a part of their lives but Jasey? This story is well written and there are certain parts of it that I really like, its just that those things don't really make sense. I really hope I didn't hurt your feelings or anything like that, because I am in no means a perfect writer, but I hope its like constructive criticism.

@Rebecca.Troy
Lets face it, there's never enough drama :)
