The First Time

Zack’s POV

Cassadee came up and we kept on going. I felt certain peace until I saw her in the front row just staring at me. The song was coming to an end and I’ve done some crazy and reckless things in my life, but what I’m going to do next was beyond reckless.

We finished the last line and I immediately went down straight from the stage. The fans didn’t go crazy. They just stood there looking at me staring into Emma’s eyes.

“I don’t talk much and I don’t like to talk, but it’s now or never so just hear me out.” I paused and Emma just stared at me. I could feel everyone looking at me. Jack, Rian, and our crew also came up to the stage.

“It has always been you Emma. Always. Did you know what happened to me after you went away? I was broken, wrecked, destroyed. You are my only one and I want to move on, but it’s really hard with you always being on my mind. No matter how much I exercise to clear my head and drink to forget about you, the thought of you keeps on haunting me. It actually feels like I’m on drugs and that drug is you. I can’t let go. I missed you so much and you have no idea how much I regretted not kicking that girl out. I love you Em, I still do. I will never stop loving you and I’m not just making this up. It’s been a hard couple of years just trying to forget about you and after seeing you again I made my decision.”

I got down on one knee and held her hand.

“Will you marry me?”

Emma looked down to the floor. I could see her starting to cry. She then looked at me.

“What happens if you wake up one day and realize that maybe I’m not the one for you?” Her voice breaking. “What if this is just a moment that’s gonna pass by because I don’t think I could handle losing you again.”

“I’ll make it work. We’ll both have to. If you love me say yes and we’ll make it work out, but if you don’t then I’ll get out of your life once and for all. Don’t force this if you don’t want to. It has to come from your heart. I promise you, I’ll never leave. So, what do you say?”

“Yes!” Emma smiled. I smiled back and I could feel everyone looking. I got up and I felt like the happiest man in the world.

Cassadee was in Rian’s arms. Jack, Alex, and Rian looked at each other smiling. Emma and I kissed and everyone started clapping. I let her go and she smiled at me, looking at me like when we were young and in love.
