Alex

He started out with his closest neighbours and learned that they were called Mr and Mrs Anderson. Both were regular church goers and he may have actually seen them the day before. Mrs Anderson offered him some tea which they drank on the front porch.

Next up was a young couple called Melissa and Florian. They were students at the local college but atheists.

When Alex wandered to his next house, he saw a familiar figure. It was the boy from the other day. He quickly walked up to him but tried to make it seem like he was not about to trip over his own feet with desire to talk to the boy.

“Hey,” he said, reaching his hand out. “I’m Alex, the new priest,” he added.

“Jack. I think I saw you in church yesterday,” Jack mumbled, looking down. But then he took Alex’s hand and looked up. His eyes were a dark brown, framed by long lashes. His hair looked great with the light stripe in it.

“Yes, that was me!” Alex laughed nervously. Frantically, he tried to think of what to do next. “Would you like to have a cup of tea with me at my house?” he asked slowly and mentally slapped himself. He was too pushy.

“I- What’s the time?” Jack asked, blushing a little.

“A quarter to twelve,” Alex replied softly. Jack turned pale.

“Shit! I used up all my time already for just hanging around! I need to be home in 15 minutes!” he panicked.

“Why?” Alex asked.

“I- I have this meeting with someone,” Jack mumbled.

“I see…” Alex said, a bit disappointed.

“See you another time?” Jack murmured. Alex thought he had seen some weird bruises on the kid but he was a construction-worker, after all.

“Sure thing! You can find me near church probably.” Alex smiled. This was exciting.

He went on to see some more people but nobody was as interesting as Jack. He hoped he would really be able to meet him for a tea at some point.
