Be Careful What You Wish For

Chapter 3: A Ghost in the Woods

Selene spots another butterfly and snaps a picture of it. That’s one of the things that she loves about living in this place. Yes, the school is very small, and there is nothing to do around here, but there is so much nature around here. She can just feel the energy around her. It makes her feel calm and collected which is what she needs after what happened last night.
Last night made her question that soulmate spell again. Jack tweeted back to her. Jack Barakat actually replied. That doesn’t really mean anything, but it was what was being talked about that was. Jack has apparently been having this dream a lot. He wanted to know what it meant. Being curious, Selene had asked him when he started having them. There was just no way that it had something to do with her spell. What he said made her think again about that. He said that he started having them the same day that she cast that spell. Of course it might just be a coincidence, but that was just too much for her to take. She had quickly got off the computer and started singing a random song to get it out of her mind.
That is why she is so happy that it’s such a nice day out. It’s perfect for relaxing and taking pictures. The brunette has already taken several photos, and she’s trying to find the perfect place for the next one. She goes further into the woods that are behind her aunt and uncle’s place. Her hazel eyes look around for that perfect shot, and they find one. Up in one of the trees is a bird. It looks like it might be a robin. Yes, it is. That would be a great picture to put in her room when she finally prints them out. She takes her camera and zooms in a little bit. Now all she has to do is take the picture...
Selene hears a crunch behind her and watches as the bird flies off. She goes to turn around and look at the source of the sound, but a powerful headache stops her. Her hands grab the sides of her head, and she finds herself slowly going down to the ground. The teen has never felt anything like this before. She feels a presence behind her, but everytime that she tries to look at it, her head pounds more. What is going on? Why is this happening? Selene tries to turn her head. She only gets a glimpse of what it is before she has to turn back around.
That little glimpse is enough to send chills down her spine. She’s not sure what it was, but it looked like a ghost. It was mostly transparent and had a light blue glow to it, and she definitely saw it’s feet. That’s pretty much all she was able to see. That really was all that she needed to see. She’s terrified.
Who is it?
What does it want?
Selene tries to think, but she’s never had this happen before. It’s a bit too much. If only she had the book with her. If only she had a spell... Think Selene. Think. Somehow words make their way into her mind. As soon as she feels each word, she says them. All of a sudden, the pain is gone. The brunette quickly turns around to find that there is nothing there. She lets out a breath that she had been holding. That might have been a close one. Of course, she doesn’t know that because she doesn’t know what it wanted.
The teen’s eyes go wide. Wait. What if that was someone important? What if that was her mom? Selene starts to feel quite bad, but then she remembers the awful headache that she got. If it was her mom, she wouldn’t have gotten that. No, her mom would have come back and shown herself. Then who could it be? It’s not like these woods are haunted. She’s been back here before. Has something changed? No, everything is the same. She starts walking home with these thoughts on her mind.
“Did you make anything for lunch?” she asks when she gets in the house.
She doesn’t get an answer. Of course, she didn’t get an answer. It’s like this everyday. Selene doesn’t even know why she still tries. Her aunt and uncle don’t pay attention to her at all. She’s invisible. They just give her a weekly allowance which is probably only a thing so she doesn’t go and ask for anything. The teen wishes that her own family members would actually see her, but that probably is never going to happen.
Knowing that she will have to get something herself, Selene goes over to the fridge and grabs out the strawberries that she grew herself for a snack. She’s not that hungry anyway. She takes her treats and goes up to her room. Once there, she sits in front of her computer and opens it. The teen scrolls through her newsfeed but finds nothing that is important. Well, it looks like she’s going to have to do something else. She eats one of the strawberries and opens up a tab website. She might as well learn a new song. She chuckles when she just happens to find a certain one. Well, it would be interesting to go ahead and learn that one considering what just happened out there. Although it was terrifying, Selene knows that there is no use trying to forget about it. In fact, she’s already starting to get over it. She is a witch, and reminding herself that really helps.
Selene starts to play the song and finds that it is rather easy. She has no trouble playing it at all. In fact, she may have it memorized a lot sooner than the other songs. It’s just a thought though. Sometimes, easier songs are harder to memorize. It’s so easy that she doesn’t have to focus on the notes as much as harder songs. When a song is hard, she pretty much has to memorize bits of it in order to play the whole thing.
The teen keeps working on the song, and she eventually has it completely memorized. Well, she might as well do a cover of it now. She puts her mask on and then sets everything up. When it starts recording, she starts playing the song. It’s a rather beautiful song, and it’s so emotional. Selene can just feel it as the words fall off her tongue.
I never said that I’d lie and wait forever...
When she finishes, she puts it on the internet like she normally does. Selene doesn’t bother looking at any of the new comments that she has gotten on her videos. She hasn’t really been in the mood to look at any of them. She just wants to focus on the music. She wants to focus on the beauty of it all. Everyone’s opinions don’t matter right now.
The brunette just sits there and tries to think of something else that she can do. It’s starting to get late, but it isn’t all that late yet. She glances over at her phone and notices that she has a notification. She opens up the device and sees that she got a message from... her sister? She hasn’t talked to her in forever. In fact, she hasn’t even seen her in forever.

Rose: What have you been up to?

Selene: I’ve just been putting covers up online.

Rose: You haven’t been doing anything that you’ll end up regretting, have you?

Selene: Why do you ask that?

Rose: I’ve just been getting these weird visions. I can’t really make anything out, but they look quite serious and drama filled.

Selene takes a second and looks at the text. She had completely forgotten about her sister’s unique ability. Some witches have a trademark ability, and some require little or no spell in order to do it. Her sister has visions. She has never really had a lot of control over them, but it is a very nice ability. Rose use to joke with her that it was great in school. Selene wonders if it’s useful in magick school.
Rose is the brunette’s older sister. They are three years apart, and their lives have been quite different. When their parents died five years ago, their aunt and uncle allowed Rose to go to a magick school instead of normal school because of her ability. No matter what, she could never be normal. She went off to that private school and finished it. When she went off for further training, she lost all contact with Selene. The younger sister is pretty sure that her aunt and uncle have something to do about that, but she never had any proof. All she could really do was wish that she could do the same thing one day.
The sad thing is that her magick skills would probably never be good enough to get into a nice magick school because of her lack of training. That’s why she was so happy that she found that book. She can teach some of it to herself. If she can teach herself and become even just OK, her chances of being able to actually learn magick in a good way increases greatly.
Her mind goes back to the text that she was sent. She’s about to tell her sister about the book and the spell, but she knows that that wouldn’t be a good thing. Her sister would probably be mad at her, and it’s not like the spell did anything anyway. One little secret isn’t going to do any harm.

Selene: Well, I’m sure that it is nothing. I’m going to learn other song on bass, but we should keep in contact.

Rose: Alright, and sure, I’d love to. I actually have a project to work on. It’s about the different species of trolls, and I haven’t really worked on it that much, so I’m going to go. I just wanted to make sure that you were OK. You are my little sister anyway. Love you.

Selene: Love you too.

Yeah, one little secret wouldn’t do that much harm.

Notes

I'm back, and I'm staying. I didn't want to write that last month of school because of all the school things going on. I've graduated high school though, so it's writing time.
I'm probably going to end up doing covers for the songs that she sings like the one in this chapter "The Ghost of You" by My Chemical Romance.
Anyway, I hope you liked it!

I actually didn't plan on showing more of a reason of why she is the way she is, but it ended up getting written somehow. lol. I can see her reasoning for stuff, but she is still a bitch about it all. At least the have the summer together. I just love how Rose was taking lead with that. lol.
I'm currently trying to decide on if I'm going to add one scene or not, and then I should be able to plan out the next chapters better. The next one is easy, but I'll need to watch the pacing if the one scene is added. This week I have to write up the first draft of my short story for my writing class, so I'm probably just going to plan out the chapters this week.
And no problem! I actually find it so interesting to go back to my old stuff. I keep all of my old stories and ideas in case I want to reuse them or just look back. Fan fiction is what got me really back into writing as a sophomore, so no matter what, it's always going to have a place in my heart.

Finally! I was waiting for them to finally meet and now they have! But Selene's aunt is a total bitch. You're right about her now deserving a name. She can't just keep them apart! Ugh. Thank you so much!!!

@ALoveLikeNever_14
I actually haven't heard of that game. I've been playing a lot of FFXIV since around October. The early access is on the 16th, so I've been getting ready for that. I'm pretty good on everything though. I have one more job that I'd like to get to max level, but that's about it.
That Town of Salem sounds very interesting though.
And I hate her aunt too. I actually don't even have names for them tbh. Like, they don't need names. People like them don't deserve them.
I might write up the next chapter sometime tonight. I just need to draw up the next fur pictures for my project. This time it's silly cartoons of the four of them, and I'm very tempted to share them before they get colored. The designs are quite silly.

@QueenDes
Would that game be Town of Salem? Just a thoughtfull question. And I seriously hate her aunt right now! Doesn't she know how much suffering she is going through?! Ugh.

@ALoveLikeNever_14
Glad you like it! I've been busy lately since the expansion to the game I play is coming out soon, but mostly I really need to work on what I'm making for the band. I'm seeing them at the end of July, so I have to make sure that it's printed and ready by then. I might share what I'm working on with my brother when I get more of it done. :)
Just one more hurdle, so soon. The prologue will actually happen, so keep that in mind. lol.
