Be Careful What You Wish For

Chapter 2: A Voice in a Dream

The lanky man with the too big of a nose wakes up and rubs his brown puppy dog eyes. He stretches his arms and runs his hand through his dark brown hair with a blond patch. He gets out of his bed and makes his way to the kitchen to get something to eat. Since he can’t sleep, he’ll just eat. How long has it been since he’s gotten enough sleep now? He’s pretty sure that it’s been at least a week now. A week with only hours of sleep is really starting to take it’s toll on him.
This man, Jack Barakat, goes over to his fridge and looks at his phone. It’s the morning now, so he should probably eat some breakfast. The question is if he should have waffles or Cookie Crisp. He sighs. It doesn’t really matter, and his brain is too tired to pick. He decides tweeting the question and gets some replies right away. Of course, they are about split in half. Well, that didn’t help. The lanky man looks in his fridge and spots some leftover Chinese food. That sounds fine. He makes sure to tweet what he’s going to eat before getting it ready. He almost dozes off in the process.
Jack would love to get some actually sleep, but he can’t. It’s not even because he’s on tour either. No, he’d at least get enough for that. The thing is that he can’t stay asleep. Every time he tries to go to sleep, he sees this masked girl in his dream. He tries to talk to her. He tries to get her to talk to him. He tries to touch her, shake her, but every time that he tries something, it doesn’t work. No sound comes out of his mouth, it’s like she can’t see him, and his hands just go right through her as if she was some kind of ghost. Or maybe it’s the other way around. Who knows? It’s just a dream.
Although it isn’t really just a dream. It’s slowly starting to become a curse. The most annoying part of it all is that he has no idea why this is happening to him. He has no idea why he keeps having the same dream over and over again. Is his mind trying to tell him something? Is he just becoming crazy? Well, if he isn’t, he will be because of this lack of sleep.
When he is done, he cleans everything up and goes over to his collection of DVDs. He needs something to get his mind off of it all. Of course, he still can’t think straight, so he ends up picking one at random and puts it in. He plops himself down on the couch and starts to watch it. Him actually being awake doesn’t last long though. His eyes slowly slip shut, and his mind slowly drifts away to the world where the girl lives.

The lanky man opens his eyes and sits up. He looks down at his body to find that he is dressed in a pair of black shorts, sneakers, jacket, and a white T-shirt. His change in clothing doesn’t matter that much to him when he finally looks and sees where he is. He’s in a valley. The grass is green and healthy, and the tips are bent over from the breeze that is also blowing some of the man’s hair.
His attention falls upon the scene in front of him. The sun is just making it’s way up. The sky is painted with oranges and streaks of yellows. In all of his life, he has never seen such a sunrise. It’s stunning. It’s as if some famous artist had taken a ladder and painted the sky himself. It’s completely mesmerizing, and he stares at it until he hears a voice in the distance.
Jack doesn’t really question the singing voice. He thinks that it’s different for a split second because he has this urge to go and follow it. He gets up and starts to walk in the direction of it. For Jack, he feels like the valley never ends, but his legs are not hurting and he is not tired.
The puppy dog eyed man finally reaches a giant rock in what is probably the middle of the valley. On top of this stone is this girl from his other dreams. Her back is facing him again, but she is wearing something different. Her outfit isn’t just skinny jeans and an unknown band shirt. She’s wearing something white. It looks like it’s a sleeveless white dress that is probably long and flowing. Jack looks down at himself to find that his outfit is different. He’s now wearing a button up dress shirt, jacket, and dress pants. Just like before, this doesn’t phase him.
He starts to climb his way up the rock. He can’t help himself. The voice is calling to him. Jack listens to her voice as he makes his way up and starts to sing along. It’s surprising that he can actually hear his own voice for once. The song is one of theirs, but he can’t even think of what song it is. His mind is too focused on singing along, climbing the rock, and just how beautiful her voice is. He wouldn’t be surprised if she sprouted wings and flew away as if she was some kind of angel.
Jack finally reaches the top where the girl is sitting on the other end. He crawls over to her and puts his hand on her shoulder. The lanky man is actually able to touch her. The girl starts to turn around to face him. Her face is covered by that mask again. Her hazel eyes look at him with an unknown emotion. Her soft hand finds it’s way to his and slips her fingers in between his. Is this really happening? Her other hand slowly starts to reach for her mask. This is happening, isn’t it? He’s finally going to see her face...

His brown eyes open and sees that he’s sitting on his couch with that movie still playing on the TV. The tiredness overtakes him again. Of course he isn’t going to see her face. He sighs. Well at least he heard her voice. He finds it to be so angelic. Now that he thinks about it, it wasn’t perfect, but it’s perfect to him. In his mind, he would compare that voice to Alex’s.
The sound of his phone going off makes him turn his head towards the device that is on the coffee table. He picks it up and looks at the name of the person that texted him. Speak of the devil. It’s Alex. Actually, the man has texted him three times now.

Alex: Hey, do you want to hang out later?

Alex: Hello?

Alex: Are you asleep or something?

Jack: Actually I was.

Alex: Did that dream finally go away.

Jack: No, but it was different.

Alex: Hang out. I’m going to call you, so you can tell me about it.

Sure enough, the Lebanese man gets a call from Alex. He picks up the phone and hears Alex’s voice say, “Hey, so tell me about this dream.”
For the past week, Alex is the only person that Jack has actually told his dream to. He may be friends with everyone else, but Alex and him have always had this bond where they can tell each other anything. Whenever anyone else asks, he just tells them that he’s been getting these dreams that wake him up, and if they ask further, he just shrugs it off and tells them that it’s nothing important.
“I woke up in this valley. The sun was setting, and it was the most beautiful setting sun that I’ve ever seen in my entire life. After staring at it for a little bit, I started to hear this angelic voice singing. I didn’t question it even though I’d never heard anything in that other dream. I just had this feeling that I needed to get to the source. I walked for what feels like forever even though I wasn’t tired and my legs didn’t hurt. I finally reached what was probably the middle of the valley, and there was this big rock there. On top was the girl. She wasn’t wearing what she normally wears though. She wore this long, sleeveless, white dress. I looked down at myself to find that I was dressed up too. I had a button up dress shirt, a jacket, and dress pants on. I started to climb up the rock, and as I did, I started to sing along with her. I recognized it as one of our songs, but I couldn’t think of which one because my mind was overwhelmed. When I got to the top, I climbed over to her and put my hand on her shoulder. She turned around to face me and held onto my hand while her other one reached towards her mask. I woke up before she could take it off.”
“Wow. Well, at least you almost got to see her face. Plus, you got to hear her voice and was able to touch her. That’s an improvement, right?”
“I guess.”
“I wonder what’s going to happen when you finally do get to see her face.”
“I just hope that it will just go away. These dreams are driving me crazy.”
“Maybe if we figure out what they mean, we can get them to stop. Dreams are suppose to give us messages or help us survive if something happens.”
“But I don’t have a clue what this means.”
“Maybe it’s telling you that you need to find some hot brunette and not a blonde,” Alex chuckles.
“That’s not funny.”
“Well, what if it means that you need to find a girlfriend though, or maybe it’s a sign that you’re going to be finding your future girlfriend soon.”
“You know how I am about relationships.”
“Yeah, and maybe it’s telling you that you need to be more like me and actually get a girlfriend.”
“I’m not sure. I feel like it’s more of a message that’s telling me to find this girl.”
“She might not even be real though.”
“I know, but I have this feeling that she is.” Jack pauses and puts his voice on speaker. “Give me a second.”
“What are you doing?”
Jack makes it so he can open up his Twitter as well. “I’m asking the fans what they think.”
“Can anyone figure out what my dream means. There is a girl but I can’t see her face yet but I can hear her and I keep having this dream”
Jack gets some replies that tell him that he needs to meet them because the girl must be them, but he just knows that it’s not them. One of the replies is a question though.
“When did you start having this dream?”
Jack doesn’t know why, but he gets this feeling to reply back. He tells her when he started getting them and hopes for her to message back, but she doesn’t. Jack sighs. Maybe this girl is freaking out because he did. That happens. Jack goes to look at their name. Moon Rock. He decides to remember it for reference. He doesn’t think that that is anything like the name of the girl in his dreams, but this girl might eventually reply to him or help him. He doesn’t know, but he has a feeling that she might. It’s just a gut feeling, but everyone always tells you to go with your gut feeling which is probably better than going with your dick feeling.
The lanky man feels like going to sleep again, but he really doesn’t see a point in it. He’s just going to have another dream and not get any sleep. Although, it might bring him closer to figuring out this mystery. He goes back to sleep, but it’s the same dream that he just had. He wakes up again with a frown. He should have known better. Jack feels like there is never going to be an ending to these dreams. These dreams are really starting to make him crazy...

Notes

Sorry this is so late. I didn't realize that it was this late. Hell, I completely forgot to update it after my email was read on Full Frontal. (If any of you remember the Grimace letter, that one was mine.) I even forgot to put this up on Wattpad like I've been planning on. Oh well. I'll get to it.
Anyway, I hope ya liked it!

I actually didn't plan on showing more of a reason of why she is the way she is, but it ended up getting written somehow. lol. I can see her reasoning for stuff, but she is still a bitch about it all. At least the have the summer together. I just love how Rose was taking lead with that. lol.
I'm currently trying to decide on if I'm going to add one scene or not, and then I should be able to plan out the next chapters better. The next one is easy, but I'll need to watch the pacing if the one scene is added. This week I have to write up the first draft of my short story for my writing class, so I'm probably just going to plan out the chapters this week.
And no problem! I actually find it so interesting to go back to my old stuff. I keep all of my old stories and ideas in case I want to reuse them or just look back. Fan fiction is what got me really back into writing as a sophomore, so no matter what, it's always going to have a place in my heart.

Finally! I was waiting for them to finally meet and now they have! But Selene's aunt is a total bitch. You're right about her now deserving a name. She can't just keep them apart! Ugh. Thank you so much!!!

@ALoveLikeNever_14
I actually haven't heard of that game. I've been playing a lot of FFXIV since around October. The early access is on the 16th, so I've been getting ready for that. I'm pretty good on everything though. I have one more job that I'd like to get to max level, but that's about it.
That Town of Salem sounds very interesting though.
And I hate her aunt too. I actually don't even have names for them tbh. Like, they don't need names. People like them don't deserve them.
I might write up the next chapter sometime tonight. I just need to draw up the next fur pictures for my project. This time it's silly cartoons of the four of them, and I'm very tempted to share them before they get colored. The designs are quite silly.

@QueenDes
Would that game be Town of Salem? Just a thoughtfull question. And I seriously hate her aunt right now! Doesn't she know how much suffering she is going through?! Ugh.

@ALoveLikeNever_14
Glad you like it! I've been busy lately since the expansion to the game I play is coming out soon, but mostly I really need to work on what I'm making for the band. I'm seeing them at the end of July, so I have to make sure that it's printed and ready by then. I might share what I'm working on with my brother when I get more of it done. :)
Just one more hurdle, so soon. The prologue will actually happen, so keep that in mind. lol.
