Worse Than Nicotine

Young Love is Such Dumb Love

Chapter inspiration: Kids In Love ― Mayday Parade

Brendon hadn’t said a word to Holly in two weeks. Those were two long, painful weeks.

In English, he would try his hardest to not even glance at her. If partners were chosen, he would immediately move from his seat to partner with someone else. He tried to avoid her at all costs.

But Holly needed to mend their friendship again, or at least something. She needed to protect her relationship, and making up with Brendon was the only answer. But how? He was already avoiding her, so there was no way she could get to him. She was stumped.

As for Hayley? The tiny redhead still didn’t approve of her best friend’s new boyfriend, and Holly knew she never would. But Hayley was always there for her, and didn’t judge her when she told her of Brendon’s finding out of her relationship with Alex. She was respectful of Holly’s relationship, and that’s what Holly liked about her the most.

---

Holly just had to push the snooze button. Holly just had to miss the bus. Holly just had to be late for school. Holly’s life just had to be taken on a downward spiral lately.

Throwing her bag over her shoulder, the short blonde sprinted down her street and near city hall to the school. Because of her fast running, Holly managed to get into the school doors five minutes after the bell, which wasn’t too bad.

She went to the office and signed herself in, seeing Brendon’s mom walking out of the principal’s office with a stack of papers. The mother’s eyes practically lit up at the sight of Holly, and Mrs. Urie threw the stack on the secretary’s desk and embraced the blonde. “Holly!” She squealed. “It’s so great to see you!”

“You too, Grace.” Holly wriggled out of her grasp and smiled sweetly to her ex’s mother.

“So … how are you? I don’t get to talk to you as often.” Mrs. Urie frowned slightly at the reference to her son’s breakup.

Holly shrugged. “I’ve been okay.” Because she knew she wouldn’t get an answer from the source, she added, “How’s Bren?”

She sighed. “He’s been … you know, same ol’ Brendon.” Her eyes then connected with the blonde’s, and Holly could clearly see the desperation in them. “He really misses you, Holly.”

The blonde almost wanted to laugh as she ran a hand through her hair. “I doubt it, what with his new girlfriend.”

“Oh, her,” Mrs. Urie seethed.

“I’m guessing you’re not fond of Jasey Rae?”

“Is it that obvious?” She laughed and turned to pick up the stack of papers she had before. “As much as I’d like to continue this, I have so much to look over. I’ll see you later, Holly!”

Holly did her best to hug the mother once more before walking out of the office. Brendon’s mother was always so sweet, but she just reminded Holly of how over Brendon and her really were. It was almost odd to see Mrs. Urie now when she used to see the mother every day in the past.

The blonde rounded one of the hallway’s corners to get to History―which was just near Music, thankfully―when she saw a group of football players walking down the halls. They were probably skipping class, and Holly wasn’t in the mood to get in trouble with them, so she walked ahead of them.

That was when she heard one of them whistle.

“Hey, baby! Where you going?”

She ignored them and kept walking. She was almost to History. Just another hall―

“Hey!” She felt a muscly hand on her shoulder that was turning her around. “Why don’t you answer me?”

Holly looked up at the tall and meaty football player with cropped blonde hair. She knew this guy―Matty Harvington, the dreaded Matty Harvington. She heard stories about him always looking up girls’ skirts and getting so high on the weekends that he couldn’t walk. And he had decided to make her his target for the day. Great.

Holly looked around her, seeing that the other three players had surrounded her in a circle. She needed to think rationally. How could she get out of this? They were all really heavy, so shoving them was out of the question.

She finally decided to answer. “I’ll answer you when you learn to speak proper English.”

Matty laughed. “Fiesty, aren’t ya?”

“I like her,” another one―Trent?―cackled.

Holly sighed. She needed to do this patiently. “Can you please move? I’m already late and I need to get to my History class.”

“History can wait,” Matty smirked, brushing a hand down her leg while the other starting touching her in various places.

Holly squirmed as all their hands were over her. They were practically closing in on her, like an army, and she tried using her elbow to push them back. She wasn’t strong enough though. “Stop,” she ordered. “S―stop―don’t fucking touch me!” She elbowed them with all her might, but it was no use.

Matty’s hand tipped her chin up, and he noticed a tear fall from her cheek, which he wiped away. “God, aren’t you a fine thing?”

“Please, leave me alone,” she was on the verge of begging.

Trent cackled again as his hand moved to her rear. “What was that, sweetie?”

Holly’s anger was building. She couldn’t even cry anymore because she was so angry. Her fists clenched and her teeth gritted. “I said,” she looked up at Matty, eyes burning with fury, “get. Off. Of. Me!

Her fist flew up and knocked Matty right in the nose, sending him backward. He held his nose to stop the bleeding as the other three slowly took their hands off of Holly, but she was fast. “This is for making me repeat myself.” She spun and hit Trent’s cheek, making him fall into the two other players. She ran a hand through her hair in distress at what she just did, muttering, “Make sure next time you listen.”

Matty slowly stood while Holly’s back was turned, mumbling, “Fucking bitch―”

Holly spun on her heel just to time to catch Matty’s fist in her hand. “What did you call―?”

“Hey!”

They all turned to see Alex running towards the scene, confusion covering his face. Without noticing what he was doing, he slowly pushed Holly behind him, as if he were her shield. “What the hell is going on here?”

“Get out of the way, Poindexter.” Matty said, going head to head with Alex.

“No, I don’t think I will.” Alex challenged. “Now I think you all should get to class and let Miss Wolfe do the same.”

Holly peaked from behind Alex’s back. “Al―Mr. Gaskarth―”

“I swear to god, if you don’t move,” Matty’s face was as close to Alex’s as he could get, “I’ll … I’ll … I’ll tell them.”

Alex’s eyes widened. “Who?”

Matty looked around nervously, realizing he hit a nerve when he didn’t even know what he was talking about. “You know who,” he answered coolly.

Just as Alex was about to reply, Trent put a hand on Matty’s shoulder, while the other held his now swollen cheek. “Matt, it’s not worth it.” He threw a glare at Alex. “Let’s go.”

The other players agreed and as Matty shrugged off his friend’s hand, he shot a scowl at Alex before walking away. They all looked back at Holly as they made their way, and the blonde still couldn’t believe what she did.

Alex quickly ushered her down the hall to his classroom, despite her complaints that History class was literally calling her name. He shut the door abruptly and pulled her close, allowing Holly to breath in his minty scent. She suddenly felt at peace.

He leaned back and held a hand to her face, searching her eyes. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she nodded. “I may have gotten felt up a little, but it’s those guys that got busted up.” She smoothed out the wrinkles in her shirt.

“Holly,” he said, making her glance up and see his worried orbs, “how … they know.”

A shiver ran up her spine at the thought. She wanted to believe that the guys didn’t know what they were talking about, but she couldn’t deny the look in Matty’s eyes. They knew, and there was no way out for Holly and Alex.

All she could do was nod as Alex asked, “How did they find out?”

“I don’t know! Maybe they said it just to get to us?” Holly tried to convince, not only to Alex, but to herself too.

Alex swallowed hard, and his eyes suddenly narrowed. “You don’t think it was―?”

“No,” she interrupted, “it wasn’t Brendon. I know him. He wouldn’t do something like that."

“How do you know for sure?”

“I just know, okay? It wasn’t Brendon. He wouldn’t sell us out.” Alex still continued to narrow his eyes, so she continued, “I know that he’s still pissed, but I know Brendon. He keeps promises, even if he doesn’t want to.”

Alex rubbed the back of his neck. “They probably recognized me when I greeted you in the hallway in student clothing.” He rubbed at his eyes with a sigh. “Oh, my god, we are so fucked …”

Holly hesitated before asking, “What should we do?”

“Maybe we should …” He sighed, trying not to look at her. “You know …”

She swallowed the lump in her throat and looked down at her shoes. “Yeah, yeah. I get it.”

“It’s only for the best.” He lifted a hand to caress her cheek, but she moved her face away.

“I know. The last thing we need is you losing your job …” She adjusted the strap of her bag and quickly went to the door. “I’ll see you in class.”

He reached for her. “Holly, I―”

“Goodbye, Mr. Gaskarth.”

@gamble with desire.
AWWWW! That was one of the sweetest comment ever! Thank you so much <3 That really meant a lot to me, especially regarding the sex scene. I was afraid it'd be too awkward, but I was surprised at the good responses I got! Thanks again <3 :)

Okay so I'm really late on this, but I totally stopped reading fics for a while. But I still love this story so so much and I really liked your sex scene! I suck at sex scenes (no pun intended!) but yours was so detailed (but not grossly so) and really well paced and idek how to describe this but you got across really well that she was a virgin and how a virgin might feel if they were in this situation like you weren't all "yup this is sex I'm totally used to it even though I've never done it lol" without it being over-the-top if you catch my drift??

Anyway I'm done fangirling and I love the sequel a lot and you should update really soon!!!
