Worse Than Nicotine

Easy Mac is Only for the Best

Throughout the whole weekend, Holly ignored Brendon’s calls and texts. She was in complete and utter bliss over Friday night. She wanted to keep reliving it in her head, and thinking about her boyfriend would just ruin it.

Her boyfriend.

Oh yeah, she had one of those.

At eleven PM on Sunday night, she sat up from her bed and checked her phone. Ten text messages and twelve calls.

Fuck.

---

Monday mornings are the worst for all kids. But now for Holly, they were her favorite day. She got to go back to school and see Mr. Gaskarth―or now to be called Alex―whom she hadn’t seen for a few days.

First period: Music. She walked into the classroom with Hayley, a smirk plastered on her face. She glanced his way, and caught her teacher staring, the same expression on his lips. God, she wanted to kiss them again.

And then he winked at her.

He did it just at the right time, where everyone was putting down their bags or going in the back room to retrieve an instrument while Holly was sitting mindlessly on the purple couch. She grinned big when he did it and winked back. (Well, at least the best she could since she was horrible at winking.)

Hayley had finally finished her song, “Pressure,” and Alex let her play it for the class. She was great, and both Holly and Alex gave her a standing ovation. Hayley gushed about how happy she was to finish it until class ended, and despite looking at her and listening, Holly always found her eyes drifting to her teacher.

The bell rang for next period, and Holly thankfully had History. Hayley left earlier than her friend for Math, which happened to be on the other side of the school. Holly grabbed her bag and threw it over her shoulder, trying to pay her teacher no attention as she followed the rest of the class out.

Just as she was the last to leave the classroom, she felt a hand push her back. The door in front of her closed as she looked up at her teacher, raising a brow. “I’m sure there’s a rule about this in the student handbook.” She smirked.

His mouth tugged up on one side. “I need you to do something for me.”

“Isn’t there a regulation against sucking dick on school grounds?”

He chuckled. “I’m being serious here.”

“Okay, what is it? We both have classes to attend to.”

“I need you to meet me here after school.” His calloused hand caressed her cheek and then moved down to her chin.

She lofted a brow. “I’m suspicious.”

“As you should be,” he smiled, opening the door for her to leave with the one minute left. “Now get to class.”

“Aye, aye, Mr. Gaskarth.”

In English at the end of the day, Brendon didn’t even tap on Holly’s desk. He just took his seat next to her and asked, “Did you have fun ignoring me the whole weekend?”

Holly squeezed her eyes shut and cursed under her breath before turning to her boyfriend. “I was out.”

“You were out?” He was suspicious, and it was clear in his voice.

“Yeah … I was up in my family’s log cabin.”

“But you hate the woods.”

Holly sighed, turning back to the worksheet that was passed back to her. “I was just out, okay, Bren? I’m sorry I didn’t answer your texts and calls, I was just busy.”

“It’s whatever,” he muttered and looked ahead to the teacher.

They didn’t talk for the rest of the class, and Holly guessed he really was over it when he invited her to band practice after school. Or he was still mad, but invited her anyways since she always went to practices. Either way, she was confused and busy, so she declined.

When the bell rang for school to be over, Holly smiled all the way to her locker. She emptied her books into it and watched the rest of the kids run off towards their school buses. After seeing very little of them still in school, she made her way to her music class.

She knocked on the door lightly and looked around the hall, seeing no one there. When no one answered, she just decided to go in herself. As soon as she stepped inside, she was greeted by a sight she didn’t expect.

The lights were off and the shades were closed, the only brightness coming from the Christmas lights hung up around the room. She smiled big and saw two desk pushed together in the middle of the class, a white plastic table cloth on top of them. She walked towards the desks, waving her fingers in front of the flame on the candle, a party trick she learned when she was young.

A sound of crashing instruments made her turn her head. She saw Alex leaning against the back closet’s door, holding it shut and locking it with a distressed look on his face. He spun at the sound of her laughing and he muttered, “Hey.”

“Hi,” she smiled as he approached her. “What is this?” She gestured to his whole setup.

“A dinner,” he replied simply and put a hand out. “May I take your bag?”

She slid the strap of her bag into his hand and watched him hang it on one of the coat hooks next to his desk. He then proceeded to grab two cartons out of his bag and go into the next room, which happened to be the teacher’s kitchen. “You’re trying too hard!” She called after him with a chuckle, but he was already gone.

She walked around the room, brushing her fingertips across the lights around the room with a beaming smile. She then noticed the music playing from his speakers on his desk, and she couldn’t contain her joy upon hearing the soft tunes of the Goo Goo Dolls. Alex returned minutes later with two paper bowls and forks in his hands. He sat them on the table as Holly asked, “Easy Mac?”

He opened a chair for her. “Only the best,” he whispered in her ear as she took the seat.

They talked for what seemed like hours on end while enjoying their meal. Holly noticed how easy it was talking to him. It was different talking to him than Brendon. He knew more and his words weren’t judgmental. He knew exactly what to say.

Holly perked up when she heard a familiar song through the speakers. “Jimmy Eat World,” she recalled out loud. “I love this song.”

“You like Jimmy Eat World?” His eyebrows rose.

“Do you doubt me, Mr. Gaskarth?”

His smirk made her laugh. “Never,” he replied and stood, holding a hand out to her. “Care to dance?”

Holly held her tongue. “I don’t dance.”

He suddenly pulled her from her chair and held her close to him. “You do now,” he whispered. She chuckled as he spun her around, holding her by the waist and grabbing her other hand. They held onto each other like that for a while, swaying to the song. Holly nestled her head in the crook of his neck, and as she did this, Alex could feel her heart beating rapidly in her chest. He knew that feeling well, since he felt it every time he looked at her.

“May angels lead you in. Hear you me my friends. On sleepless roads, the sleepless go. May angels lead you in …”
He was singing the lyrics under his breath, and Holly smiled at it while closing her eyes.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed in her pocket, startling them both. They both instantly let go, to both their dismays, as Holly reached in her pocket and checked her cell. Brendon texted her. She sighed and then looked at the time.

“Shit,” she muttered and looked up at his confused face. “My parents are really going to wonder why I’m not home and I have to walk.”

“Yeah, yeah. I get it.” He rubbed the back of his neck as she ran to grab her bag from the hook.

“This was nice though,” she grinned, throwing her bag over her shoulder. “Thank you.”

“Wait!” He called as she turned the knob on the door. He caught up to her, standing close with a half-smile. “C―Can I see you again?”

She looked down at her feet, trying to hide her flushing red cheeks. “Casual reminder, Alex,” she made sure he heard her call him by his first name, “I see you every day anyways.”

“You know what I mean.”

She stared at his nervous brown eyes for a moment before she reached up on her tip toes and kissed his lips lightly. She finally answered, “What do I have to lose?”

My other story, The Rock Show (3rd and last installment to series of Alex and Victoria [OC]), is nearing it's end! If you've been wondering where it went since my email was hacked, then there you go :) I can't wait to end the series with all of you, it was a great journey!
ANYWAYS, back to this story: I love to write this one! It's different and kind of out of my comfort zone, but that's what you need to do as a writer. Plus, the idea for this story was always in my head and I'm really glad I wrote it down. You guys are the best!

@gamble with desire.
AWWWW! That was one of the sweetest comment ever! Thank you so much <3 That really meant a lot to me, especially regarding the sex scene. I was afraid it'd be too awkward, but I was surprised at the good responses I got! Thanks again <3 :)

Okay so I'm really late on this, but I totally stopped reading fics for a while. But I still love this story so so much and I really liked your sex scene! I suck at sex scenes (no pun intended!) but yours was so detailed (but not grossly so) and really well paced and idek how to describe this but you got across really well that she was a virgin and how a virgin might feel if they were in this situation like you weren't all "yup this is sex I'm totally used to it even though I've never done it lol" without it being over-the-top if you catch my drift??

Anyway I'm done fangirling and I love the sequel a lot and you should update really soon!!!
