Chapter Nine: Surrender

There are a few in here that hurt themselves
They kick and bend in a dried up well
They call for help and you know them well
Are you aware of what do I know?

Jack quickly rushed through the cold night's atmosphere. He needed to get home. His dad isn't so good on his son not arriving home on time. His mum never did anything. She didn't believe Jack even had a heart.

Jack shivered as he reached his front door. Anxiety shot through him as he opened it steadily. It was twelve at night and he couldn't believe he has been out for so long.

He creep into his own house in hope that his parents weren't awake. To his surprise, the house was silent. Jack let a deep breathe, and moved around in the dark room, shifting to the stairs.

Suddenly as Jack was walking up the stairs, a light flickered on.

Jack stopped right in his track his heart suddenly rapidly beating ever so fast. Jack didn't even dare look up. He couldn't even concentrate because of the speed in his heart was too much. He felt like he was having a panic attack.

Jack slowly forced his head to look up, and when he did, he nearly fell down the stairs. His dad was looking down upon him with a glare. His bushy brown eyebrows were locked together as his face crumbled up into what looked like an angry, disappointed glare. Jack swallowed the lump in his throat, the swallow noise hitting the silence.

"And who the Hell do you think you are returning home this late?" His father whispered violently. Jack gulped again, and looked down at the carpet stairs. Jack suddenly felt sweaty and un even. He knew what his father was capable of doing, and Jack didn't really want it to end that way.

"I-I w-was just outside at-"

"Do you honestly think I'm that dumb? Of course I knew you were outside." His dad sneered into the tense atmosphere. Jack shyly ducked his head, knowing he had displeased his dad. Jack's dad puffed before turning the light off carelessly and storming back into his bedroom.

Jack breathed out heavily, his breaths.becoming dangerously low as he tip toed up the rest of the stairs. He was lucky this time.

As soon as Jack reached his bedroom, he knew what he was going to do. Jack scrolled around his room, still breathing in deeply; he needed to to keep tame. He searched in his familiar draw and looked under the pile of clothes. He smiled when he found the old jogging-bottoms that held something inside it's pocket. Jack aimlessly picked out the sharpener blade and held it in the palm of his hand. He could now feel the way his legs wobbled when he walked- he was shaking so much.

Jack sat down on his bed and took his jumper off. He then aimlessly grabbed the blade so it was in his shaky fingers. He pointed the tip down to his upper wrist, letting a tear slip down. He hated the way everyone treated him like shit, though, he treated everyone else like shit by ignoring them or not arriving home on time. He winced even more when he brought his best possession down fully so it dragged across his already sliced up arm.

As Jack took the blade from his disgusting skin, red blood dots started shining through the cuts he just caused. Jack's tears slipped down his cheek as he got up and went into his other cupboard after putting the blade back inside the pocket. He grabbed some tissue as just damped on the cuts really slowly. It took about just half an hour before it stopped completely. He hated doing this, but it's what Aldemar taught him, he learned. He learned and studied too much with Aldemar's lessons. He couldn't give up now if he wanted. He'll never give up on that blade.

Jack snuggled up into his warm bed and fell into a not so good slumber.

"Jack, where the Hell were you last night?! You worried me sick!" Jack arose from his slumber by his mum running over to him and cuddling him. 'Sure I did mum, sure.' Was all Jack was thinking with bitter. His mum didn't let go off him until he opened his eyes because he was basically getting suffocated to death. Jack didn't say anything to his mum as he stretched and got up. His mum puffed and left the room so Jack could get changed. Jack hated the fact that he had to go to school. It was clearly obvious he wanted to get out off there.

Jack got changed lazily and went downstairs to pick up his bag. He filled his waterbottle and decided against breakfast. He went back upstairs to get his bus pass out off the draw and put it safely in his pocket. He headed back downstairs with his bag successfully over his shoulder. He didn't say goodbye to his mum as he headed out the door.

The sun was protected by the stuffed clouds as Jack walked out his house. The late winter's wind smiled as it rushed past him. Jack walked three houses down to stop at the bus stop. He had his head down the whole time so he didn't know anyone was there. He frowned at his hands. He quickly tucked them up in his hoodie and sniffed. He hated how the cold always tormented him. How it always seemed like he was in a bubble of bitter weather. Maybe that was because he felt like the only one on this Earth.

A couple of minutes went by and Jack finally heard them familiar footsteps. He bit his lip and used his finger to scratch over his thumb. He always seemed to dig his short nails into his skin when he was nervous or possibly triggered. It never really bothered him. He heard the footsteps come closer until the light sound stopped beside him.

"Morning, Jack," Jack heard Alex's angel voice circle around his ears. He bit his tongue and kept completely quiet. Alex was lucky that he even got some words off Jack yesterday, but that was yesterday. He can't let Alex know. Jack stood there quietly, and when he gulped it was pretty loud.

"Jack?" Alex asked. The quietness between them two made Jack shaky and even more nervous. Jack shifted his weight onto his other leg. Then, he heard Alex sigh before he heard the bus coming up the road. Jack bit the inside of his gum as he heard that horrible 'shh'ing noise when the bus stopped. He saw Alex get on before he did. When he showed the bus driver his pass, he felt someone grip on his wrist. Straight away, Jack pulled it back with a wince. He brought his wrist in his hand and left it there safely.

"Sit boys. Now!" The bus driver shouted, startling Jack. Jack could feel a panic attack start to creep up inside him. He looked up at the belly, Alex's belly, and he realised Alex was the one who pulled on his wrist. Jack had no idea why Alex would do that, but he started following Alex. He was debating on sitting next to Alex or not, but he didn't have a choice when Alex pulled his jumper so he landed on the seat. Jack could hear Alex's light chuckle front beside him and Jack blushed.

The bus journey to school was quiet between Jack and Alex. Alex kept mumbling words and humming to songs; which, Jack found a little bit cute. But apart from that, it was quiet.

Alex and Jack hopped out the bus, Alex mumbling a little thank you to the bus driver. Jack hugged his jumper and followed Alex into school. When they did get into school, Alex was drifted away from his friend. Jack didn't mind, seeing as he though Alex would be better off with friends that will talk to him, and Jack headed off to homeroom.

When he entered the room, it was painfully quiet. He got his normal seat at the back and starred hard at his hands. He fiddled with his fingers, anything to distract himself. The room got louder shortly and Jack let out a deep breath he's been holding in. He scanned his desk and just looked down at it, not taking any interest at all in it. He just wished this day would go quicker so he can go and hang out at the quiet forest.

"Barakat! I have an email saying you didn't do your History homework, is this true?" The old teacher asked. Jack nearly jumped a mile in the air. He hasn't heard a teacher call his name in a year; he hasn't heard anyone shout his name in school. Jack gulped, remembering he was suppose to hand in his homework after the Christmas holiday. He nodded slowly, taking in the silence of the room.

"Gotta rebel over here!" Jack heard Jason shout. He wasn't quite sure if he was aiming it at him, because he wasn't looking up. But of course, Jason was aiming it at Jack.

"Jason, shut up. Jack, get your homework in tomorrow." The teacher sneered through the silence. Jack nodded, more to himself than anyone else. He hated it here.

Jack heard the homeroom door creak open. The room went silent.

"Ah, Gaskarth! Finally decided to show up, hey?" The teacher sounded angry through his sarcasm. Jack gulped for no reason, other than the fact he hated the noise of shouting- it reminded him of Aldemar.

"I'm really sorry, sir." Jack heard alex's quiet voice rumble. He could tell Alex was a little scared because Alex is quite confidant at talking, well, talking to Jack. Just then, the bell went. Jack breathed deeply in and let it back out while he waited for everyone to leave.

"Gaskarth, you have an detention at lunch with me. Don't forget, kid." The teacher said to Alex who was standing there awkwardly.

"I uh, I won't sir." Alex mumbled and headed out the door. Jack finally got up, tucking the chair.behind him.

Jack was heading down the not so loud corridors when someone poked his arm. He heard the footsteps beside him as he walked. Jack just ignored the poke, thinking it was some stupid year seven, and kept walking with his head lower.

@Twat

oh Damn, sorry. Aldemar died because Jack had did what his father had done... Like, Jack had basically died for a moment, so Aldemar died and never came back when Jack did. I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe I should've included that.
