Hold Me, Feel My Heart Beat
Chapter inspiration: Kiss Me Again – We Are the In Crowd
It was their second to last stop on the tour: Salt Lake City, Utah. You would think that after all this, Victoria would’ve been used to getting to things on time. She wasn’t.
She had gotten up late that morning, cursing herself for never getting an alarm and relying on Vinny’s booming voice to always wake her. She hurriedly got ready, grabbing the best shirt to explain herself at the moment: a muscle tank that said, “I HATE MORNINGS.” She threw on a pair of shorts and quickly pulled her layered hair into a ponytail while slipping on her maroon Vans.
“Camera … camera … camera …” She mumbled under her breath until she finally found the prized object.
She sprinted out of the bus, makeup-less and sweat running down her brow. She didn’t care really about the makeup part, it wasn’t like anyone was going to notice her while she hid behind her camera at the set.
If she even got to the set on time.
She finally arrived at the desired stage, explaining to the security how she was late and they finally let her in. She started taking pictures instantly, trying to make up for lost time. As she was about to take a shot, she caught sight of Jack looking down at her and going over to nudge Alex. She took a shot of the two together with a smile as they finished playing “Lost In Stereo.”
She noticed Alex dramatically look down at her with a shaking head, thinking he was doing this for a picture. She was dead wrong.
“Well, look who showed up.” He waved his finger down at her, making the crowd laugh and the camera start slipping away from her hands in nervousness. “Took you long enough!”
“Alex!” She seethed through gritted teeth.
“We’ve only been waiting for you for like five-ever.” Jack scoffed into his mic and turned to the crowd. “We’ve all been waiting for Victoria, right?!”
The crowd screamed in response, causing Victoria to frown even more at them. “Guys, get back to the set!” She screeched, but only got laughter in response.
“Nah, we have our own plan!” Jack chuckled and hopped off the stage.
She was surprised when the guitarist dragged her on stage, despite her protests. She was hooked up quickly and given a mic. She looked around, from the guys to the crowd below. Her eyes masked a look of horror, but the fans kept screaming through her stage fright.
“C’mon!” Jack persuaded, pushing her right into Alex.
Victoria looked up at Alex’s smirking face and backed away. “What the fuck is this all about?!”
“Okay, save the profanity until the end of this.” Alex said into his mic, gaining laughter. “Just listen to what I have to say.”
“Alex,” her hands shook as her nerves took over and she crossed her arms over her chest, “I have bad sta―”
“GOD DAMMIT, HAMILTON, YOU ARE GOING TO LISTEN WHAT I HAVE TO SAY AND YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE IT!”
That sentence shut her up, but the fans went nuts.
Alex handed his guitar over to a techie and motioned for Victoria to come close to him. She hesitantly did and was surprised as he slung his arm over her shoulders. “Okay, guys, settle down!” Alex chuckled and the crowd immediately went silent. “Now, this girl right here, is my best friend, and she has been since we were neighbors across the street and a couple in high school.” He then glanced down at her confused face. “And my feelings for her have grown more since then.”
If Victoria thought the crowd was loud before, then she clearly didn’t know what to think after that statement. Her eardrums would surely be killed by the end of the day.
Alex turned to face her, his arm still around her to hold her close to him. “I love you, Victoria. I’ll always love you.”
Victoria’s eyes darted everywhere: to the techies, to the guys’ happy faces, to the fans, and back to the man in front of her. “Alex, I―”
“Don’t interrupt my speech! I rehearsed this shit!” He put a finger to her lips and she stifled a giggle.
“He’s not lying,” Rian said from the back.
“Hush your mouth!” Alex pointed to the drummer and spun back to Victoria. “Where was I … Oh, yeah: And I don’t give one flying fuck about what you said and how you don’t want us to date on tour. Because, for one thing, newsflash, Hamilton: tour ends in a few days and I hate rules.” He sighed after a moment. “What I’m trying to say with all of this, is that I just want us together again.”
She was shocked and it showed from her mouth hanging loose. Words escaped her, and she knew she had to say something soon with all the cheers of “KISS HIM!” and “SAY YOU LOVE HIM BACK!” ringing in her ears.
She soon found her voice. “Alex―”
“And another thing―”
“ALEX!” She held a side of his face with one hand. “I love you too, shithead.”
“Well, that wasn’t how I was expecting it to―”
“HEY, DUMBASS!” Jack called from the other side of the stage. “JUST KISS HER OR I WILL!”
Alex spent no time wasting after that statement, and he immediately brought his lips to hers. The cheering of the crowd seemed so hushed, as if it was just Alex and Victoria in their own little world. She missed this, she missed kissing him and holding him. She hated being all cheesy, but these were the things she lived for, the things that kept her young.
And Alex was going to be there until the very end.
