Let the Floods Cross

e i g h t e e n

“That forehand was superb!”

Alex stared blankly at the TV as Kaya wrapped her legs around his waist. She pushed him onto the bed and ignored his physical plead. With his back against the mattress, he looked up at her helplessly. She leaned down and pressed her lips against his. His hands instinctively roamed up her skirt, just as she placed her legs around him.

She sighed heavily as she broke from the kiss. He smiled at her, sneaking a glance at the television screen. The camera is on Liezel; she is reaching for a tennis ball from her pocket, looking as intense as ever in her red tank top and tennis skort.

“Look at me, Alex.” Kaya gasped as she pulled her shirt off.

Alex turned back to her and noticed that she wasn’t wearing a bra. Her bare chest is fully exposed to him, successfully pulling his attention away from the finals match going on in New York. He forcefully pulled her back down into him and turned her back into the mattress. She squealed and giggled as he forcefully took action.

He smirked at her before leaning down to reconnect their lips. His hands reached up to her bare chest, gently running his hands through them. Kaya laughed against his lips.

“It sure has been a while since Liezel Beckett has won a grand slam title.”

“But Chris, Beckett did win the French Open just last year.”

Alex ignored the commentary going on from the TV and focused on Kaya, just as she had wanted. When he gnawed at Kaya’s neck, she gasped loudly and encouraged him to keep going.

“Usually, Beckett could win one grand slam per year if she is on a roll; sometimes she can win two. This year, ever since Andonov got better, she has been falling apart in her game. Do you believe Liezel Beckett can win the U.S. Open?”

“Beckett has been playing the best tennis in this tournament than she has during the rest of this year. Her serves are on point, and her forehands are just so impressive during this tournament. That match against Sharapova was breathtaking. If Andonov is not careful this time around, Beckett might just win.”

He pulled Kaya down and quickly kissed her, trying his best to distract him from the commentary on Liezel’s game. Kaya ran her hands through his messy brown hair, repeatedly reconnecting their lips when they parted for mere seconds. She is trying to ignore the fact that Alex is anxious to watch what is going on in that tennis match.

She is trying to push to the back of the mind that Alex cares a whole lot about the result. The commentary in the background revolves around her, and she has to listen to talks of Liezel while having sex with her boyfriend. It is very uncomfortable for her. However, she pushed past that.

“Kiss me.” Alex whispered to her when she broke apart for a few seconds.

Grinning, Kaya went for his neck and reclaimed her position above him. He moaned when her teeth bit down onto the right spot. With lips slightly parted, Alex closed his eyes and tried his best to focus on the sensation of being with Kaya. The cheering in the background intensified, and he knew at this point that something significant is happening.

Within the next twenty minutes, Alex roughly handled Kaya and she enjoyed every single moment of it. She liked how intense he is feeling, even though the roughness was inputted to distract himself. Even if he is having sex with her, his mind is on Liezel. Kaya accepted that, and keeping her mind on the intercourse helped her at it.

Things were reaching to its climax between the two until abrupt cheering reverberated from the TV.

“And the winner of the 2012 U.S. Open is: LIEZEL BECKETT!”

Alex nearly shoved the blonde off of him when it happened. He grinned widely, getting up from his position on the bed. Liezel is nearly in tears as she dropped her tennis racquet on the hard court. The camera was on her as she walked up to the net and shook hands with Andonov.

They whispered something to each other before they walked up to the chair umpire. After it happened, the camera was on her player’s box. Alex stared in slight resentment as his eyes landed on Zack, who is clapping proudly. He tried to study what is going on in the player’s box. Liezel’s parents hugged each other and then hugged her friend, Tomas Berdych, who he did not know showed up at her box.

“Alex?” Kaya tried to get his attention back.

He shook his head at her and pointed at his lower body. Kaya sighed in frustration.

“You want me to give you a blowjob while your girlfriend wins the U.S. Open?” She asked, exasperated.

Alex is not paying attention to her. He watched as Liezel climbed onto the player’s box and dove straight for her parents. After she kissed both of her parents, she went for her coach, Hale, and her entire team. Then she shared a hug with Zack and whispered something to him. They both grinned at each other as Zack said something back to her.

“Who is that?” A commentator asked.

“I believe that is Zack Merrick, her boyfriend’s best friend.”

“They are both from the band All Time Low?”

“Yes, Chris, but I want to know why she is here with his band mate? Where is Alex?”

“That’s what we’ve been asking about during this whole tournament.”

Liezel turned away from Zack and walked towards Berdych.

“And finally she goes for Tomas Berdych, her wonderful friend! Berdych recently lost the semi-finals match to number three seed Andy Murray. But he is too busy cheering on his friend to brood!”

Alex’s jaw clenched slightly as Berdych kissed her on the cheek. Usually Alex did not mind when he did that, but now that his relationship with Liezel is standing on thin ice, his paranoia got the best of him.

His eyes closed when he felt Kaya work her magic on the lower half of his body. He temporarily ignored the commotion going on in New York as he only cared about Kaya for this brief moment.

“Yes, Kaya.” He mumbled.

Fifteen minutes later, Liezel started giving her winner’s speech. At that moment, Alex returned his attention to the TV.

She is wearing a white colored jacket over her tennis outfit, holding the beautiful trophy in front of her. Before speaking, she leaned forward to the microphone stand.

“I would like to thank my coach, Danielle Wilson, for always being there for me and believing in me. You have been with me since my high school years and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you. I would like to thank Hale, Foreman, Jonathan, Rachelle—you rock! Sif, Katja, Romero, Taki, my entire team! I love you guys! Leslie, Tera…”

Alex placed a hand on Kaya’s head and softly ran his fingers through strands of her blonde hair. She kept going at it, at his request and did not stop even though his attention wasn’t completely on her.

“…and finally, I would like to thank my love, Alex. He has been my rock and the reason why I am motivated to keep fighting. He wasn’t able to make it this time, but that’s fine. I’m pretty sure he’s watching now. Alex, if you are indeed watching, I love you and I can’t wait to come back to you.”

He smiled and tried to bury the guilt within him. She declared his love for him on live television, and he is here having sex with another woman. It is not fair to her; he needs to end whatever it is that is going on between him and Kaya.

“Do you want me to leave?” Kaya had stopped and cleaned her mouth.

Alex felt bad that he cared more about Liezel’s game than her. His thoughts of ending everything now dissipated.

“Look, Kaya, come over tomorrow, I’ll make it up to you okay?” He said as he placed both hands on either side of her face.

Biting her lips, Kaya managed a smile.

“Thanks for being so lovely.” Alex whispered, giving her a quick kiss.

Kaya briefly glanced at the TV before putting her clothes back on.

“Why are we back here three days earlier than we should?” Zack asked as they both got into the van.

Liezel sighed, resting her head on the seat rest. They were supposed to go to the winner’s banquet and meet all the officials of the U.S. Open, but she decided to opt out this time. She left her entire team to represent her, only Zack to follow her back to Baltimore. She cannot go into the banquet as a winner when she doesn’t feel like one without Alex beside her.

I won the last grand slam of the year, she thought blissfully.

“Beckett?”

“You know why.” Liezel replied.

Zack nodded.

“But Alex could’ve waited for another three days.” He said.

Liezel shook her head.

“Maybe Alex can, but I can’t. And this time, I am going to agree to his marriage proposal because I want to marry him. He is everything to me, and I don’t know why I’ve forgotten that. I got what I wanted, I kicked Andonov’s ass and I got my title. But it doesn’t feel right without Alex.”

Zack placed a hand on her shoulder, encouraging her to continue.

“I am going to dedicate more time to him and a little less time to tennis. I screwed up big time, but the next time we have an opportunity to spend time together, I will not take it for granted. I’ll chill it on the tennis, not just for him, but for me.”

The bass player did not say much. He didn’t know what to say to Liezel, because he knew things that she should know. However, he cannot tell her. He cannot betray his best friend and ruin everything for him. But Liezel deserves to know.

Liezel’s phone rang, pulling them both out of their thoughts. She checked the I.D. and almost rejected the call when Dale’s name flashed across the screen. But to be polite, she picked up her phone.

“Hello?”

“Hey Beckett!”

“Hi Dale.”

“Okay, I have news for you; I just spoke to Loki and he wants to interview you, conduct a photo shoot for your win at the U.S. Open. Oh, and Lockheart is launching a new sneaker line, he wants you to be the ambassador of it.”

Liezel shook her head, confused and overwhelmed at the same time.

“Why isn’t my manager calling me about this now?” She asked instead.

“Oh, Loki didn’t talk to her yet. I just heard Loki mention it and I was too excited so I called you before he finalized his decisions.” Dale squealed.

Liezel thanked her quietly.

By the time she finished her phone conversation with Dale, the van already got to her loft. Excitedly, she got out of the van and gestured for Zack to come out and help her with her suitcase. He obliged without hesitation.

“Good luck with the reconciliation with Alex.” Zack said quietly.

Liezel smiled at him and pulled him into a hug.

“Trust me, I am all ready to do everything. And can you keep a secret?”

Zack hesitated.

“Uh… yes?”

“Okay, I’m not wearing anything but lingerie underneath this coat.” She whispered.

His face scrunched up in disgust, but he now knows why she is wearing a coat in the beginning of September.

“I wish I could unhear that.” Zack mumbled when Liezel headed for the front door.

“Bye Zack!” She called back to him when he entered the van.

She waited until the van drove away completely before she took out her keys. Sighing heavily, she put the key into its lock and invited herself into the loft. When she entered, she was welcomed by the sight of a trail of rose petals on the floor and candles that lit up the dark room.

Liezel grinned widely. We’re going to be okay, she thought ecstatically. Dropping her duffel bag beside her suitcase, she quietly tip-toed to the bedroom door. She noticed that the light was on in the bedroom. Alex is hiding in there, awaiting her return.

She wanted to surprise him by returning home early, but he already knew she was coming back—hence the romantic set up in the living room. She wondered if Zack tipped it off to Alex when she decided to return home without attending the banquet. Shaking her head, she turned the doorknob and invited herself in.

“Hello, I’m back Ale…” She trailed off midsentence as her eyes landed on the view in front of her.

Liezel dropped her hands, the hands that were about to open her coat. She gaped at the sight ahead of her and tried to process what is happening through her brain.

The candles and the petals were not for her, after all.

Alex shoved Kaya Lockheart away from him and got up from the bed as he wrapped the sheets around his torso.

The tennis player blinked at him several times as she felt tears falling down from her eyes.

“Liezel, I can explain.”
