Deer In The Headlights

Chapter Fourteen

Jack's p.o.v

"I'm on the highway to Hell!" Me and my mum screamed, singing to AC/DC. We sounded so horrible, it was unbelievable. I started Moshing in my seat and my mum chuckled and kept singing. I can't believe my mum has changed from the accident. Before, we would constantly be shouting and yelling at each other; always at each others throats. Now, we're having the best time of our lives in this shit car singing to Highway To Hell. I prefer this mum than the other one. This side of my mum looks like she's actually happy. I smiled, sinking into my seat before screaming and yelling to more songs.

Once we got home I ran straight into the house and picked my dog, Olivia, up with my un casted arm. I missed her so much! I cuddled into her long fur and kissed her head.

"Aw, I missed you so much, Olivia!" I cooed. I could feel her tail wagging in excitement.

"Hey, you didn't say you missed me, but you sure said it to a damn animal!" My mum scolded, angrily. Just when I thought she had gone back to her old ways, she just laughed.

"I'm joking, I'm quite sure you missed your old mare." She laughed, pinching my cheek. I sighed.

"You're not an old mare, mum." I sighed again, putting Olivia down. Olivia quickly scrambled to her food bowl and ate some biscuits.

"Oh, you." She chuckled, walking into the kitchen. I laughed, shaking my head and rolling my eyes before hopping upstairs.

I entered my same messy room and sighed at the dreading smell. It simply smelt of teenage boy, dirty plates and dirty clothes. I dodged the random objects placed on my non-visible floor and flopped on my bed carefully; not wanting to hurt any injuries. I nearly moaned from there from the comfort of my bed. It felt like I was sitting on a fluffy cloud surrounded by more fluffness. It felt so much better than the hospital bed. Wait...hospital? That's when memories flooded through my head. By that, I mean Alex, my doctor. I starred upon my ceiling as memories; good and bad, drowned me. Being in that hospital was probably the best and worse things that ever happened to me. Alex being the best and the cause why I got there being the worse. Though, it never seemed that me and Alex had much of an connection, but deep down inside, we did. Even if I didn't admit it back there, I think I might be in love with my doctor.

"Jack, dinner!" My mum called. Dammit, can't she bring it up? These crutches are annoying. I can't wait til I can get my cast off my leg and be back to walking. But I obviously don't want her to see the state of my room ( if she hasn't already)

"Jack!" She yelled. I groaned deeply, getting annoyed.

"Whatever." I carefully sat up, reaching for my crutches and trying to do the best of not failing at getting up.

Luckily, I got down the stairs without trembling down them; it's so difficult getting down stairs with crutches. I hopped into the kitchen where I could smell spaghetti. I hummed to the smell, and walked over to the table in the kitchen. I saw my bowl waiting for me and I dived straight into it.

"Jack, Jack, slow down!" My mum laughed. I moaned at the taste of my nearly finished spaghetti.

"I'm sorry mum, but oh my god, the hospital food sucked compared to this." I gulped down more spaghetti, licking my lips afterwards.

"Glad you like it." She smiled, picking up her fork and eating more slowly then me. This sure feels good. I'm actually eating with my mum for the first time in years.

"Oh, by the way, I have some bad news," My mum said after finishing her last fork of spaghetti. I nodded, preparing for what she was going to say.

"Well the first one is that you have to go back to the doctors in a week to get your cast off. Also, you'll be starting school the following Monday when it has been taking off," She smiled weakly, before squinting her eyes closed.

"And you'll be going to therapy on the same week as when you get back to school." She blurted out quickly. I sat there, trying to figure out what she said. Then when I memorized what she said clearly, I nodded.

"Okay." I just said, no emotion showing. My mum sat there in shock.

"O-okay? Your not gonna like, be mad?" My mum asked, still shocked. I just shrugged and got up with both of our bowls and placed them in the sink. I guess I'm just going to have to get used to giving in now. Me and mum have been pulling each others hair out about me going to therapy. Ever since she found blood dots all over my sheets, I couldn't lie to her. So I told her about my self harming and alcohol addiction- same as I told Alex, and straight away the idea of sending me to therapy sprouted inside her head.

I sighed and hopped back up the stairs; using my free hand to help me. I arrived at my messy room again, and I didn't even care what was in the way. I just flopped my higher body on my bed before gently picking my legs up. I got comfortable under my bed and snuggled into the lukewarm covers. Today has been exhausting.

'"But I don't want to leave. I need you, Alex," Jack screamed at the boy in front of him. Jack was located outside a market. It was quite a small market, but it was a busy market. Trucks of food came rushing down the little path they had, in desperate need of getting the food in on time. Cars would be travelling, eagerly searching for a free parking space. Buses would be carrying people to their destination: the market.

People were giving glares and confused looks towards the two younger men. They were confused why two random people would be furiously shouting at one another in the middle of the market. People hurled their kids away from the scene, not wanting them to see. Others stuck around, sticking their nose in what was happening. There was not much to see, though. Just to hear.

"Just go, Jack," Alex, Jack's fully qualified doctor, yelled back.

"But I don't want to forget you," Jack said calmly, stepping closer to his doctor, tears streaming down his red, puffy cheeks.

"I need you," Once Jack spoke those three words, Alex couldn't contain his anger anymore.

"I'm your fucking doctor, Jack. You shouldn't be wanting to never forget me," He sneered, getting twice more angry. People now were rushing around the two as the younger man got pushed down on to the ground. Alex breathed deeply, anger getting the best of him.

"Just leave. Go. Stay away from me, Jack," Alex whispered downwards to the boy he just pushed. He never meant to push Jack; he never meant for any of this. He never meant to get attracted to his patient to yet, push him away.

Jack's tears were getting heavier, and they started to push him down. He broke out a whimper as Alex's words. But he scrambled to his feet. He slowly, yet carefully walked back to Alex. He sobbed, getting closer. Alex just stared there, depending on his body to run away from Jack.

"I'm not letting you leave again, Alex." Jack sniffed, now right in front of the man. The market slowly started getting more busier, but quieter.

"What do you mean 'again'?" Alex asked, clenching his fist.

"You honestly don't remember do you, Lex?" He almost laughed his sentence out, tipping his head to the side. Why hasn't anyone come to stop the two boys from the amount of distraction they are causing towards people? Ordinary people were stopping occasionally, before trotting away. They never really stuck around to see; which Alex and Jack were grateful for.

"You honestly don't remember when you left me. You've left me so many times, Alex," Jack paused, remembering every single time Alex left him. It truly broke Jack. but now, for the millionth time, they have been reunited.

"The time were you left at the hospital, never saying goodbye. I remember you saying that we would see each other again, and yes it happened. I was sitting on that bench for years, Alex! Years! Yeah, you came back. Yeah you said all your stupid 'I missed you's. But you never meant them, did you?" Jack bit at Alex. Alex stood there, tears in the back of his eyes.

"Jack, I-"

"You left. You got me hit by a bus, Alex. And look, we are magically reunited where-yet again- you're going to leave me. I wonder how long I'll be waiting for you to return now. Wait, I know. I won't be waiting because I'm not letting you leave, Alex," Jack firmly spat. Alex blinked for what seemed millions of times. This was because he knew Jack was right. Alex had left Jack behind far too many times. But he couldn't deal with this anymore; he couldn't deal with the consequences.

Alex started shaking his head and turning away from the boy. Tears were streaming down his face as memories flooded his head. He needed to get away, but he couldn't get himself to do it.

"Alex, pl-"

"No!" Alex snapped back, his hands entering his inside pocket.

"Alex, please st-"

"No!" He yelled back, pulling out the heavy, sliver metal objects from his pocket. He hid the object with his free hand on his coat. He started walking away from Jack-yet again. He couldn't bring himself to do it though. As long as Alex was away from him, Jack would be safe.

"Alex, please! Stay. I really need you. I love yo-" Alex pulled out the gun from his coat and with one split second, Jack was shot. People screamed as they heard the gun shot go off. Kids were scared, shocked expressions on their face, tears streaming down his face.

"Killer!" Some screamed, running away.

"Monster!" Another cried. Alex dropped the gun, tears violently streaming down his face. He quickly ran over to Jack, screaming. He cupped the back of Jack's head.

"What have I done?!" He choked, looking down Jack's body. Blood was dipping from where Jack was clenching onto his stomach.

"I'm so sorry, Jack. I'm so sorry," He cried out, cuddling Jack. Tears drowned onto Jack's face. He had no idea on what just happened, but things seemed to be getting dark.

"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry," Alex kept repeating, finally picking the boy up. Ambulances and police sirens echoed through Alex's ears.

"I'm so sorry, Jack. I love you," He cried more. Jack was still alive as a tear slipped down his cheek.

"I love you too," He whispered back before everything went black. Alex clutched onto Jack, running towards the ambulance. Paramedics were running towards him, the police behind him.

"You are under-arrest. Everything you say will be held against you and reported to court. Hand the boy over!" Two police me grabbed Alex. Alex was speechless. He didn't even know if this was all real. He kissed Jack's forehead.

"I'm going to miss you, I'm so sorry," He cried before paramedics were reaching and taking Jack off him. He kept sobbing, watching his Jack go.

It was Jack's time to leave'
