Alex POV

A few hours later, I was awoken by the nurse coming in to check on Jack. With her came a repulsing smell of disinfectant. She carefully woke him up by gently shaking his arm and then proceeded to check his pupils. She nodded, satisfied with the results and asked Jack if he needed anything. He denied and she left again.

I lay there in the darkness, once again trying to figure out why Jack had ran away. Had it been him being scared of my friends? Maybe he had had enough of them and me. I didn’t know, I had no idea why he had left. I’d talk to him as soon as possible.

I continued to hold his hand and felt his pulse, counting the beats. It was regular and I fell asleep after some time.

The next morning, I woke up to the nurse checking on Jack again. He seemed more awake now, talking to her. The sun was shining into the room a little bit.

“How long will I have to stay for?” he asked.

“You can leave today, your results are fine. You just need to rest and not do any hard work or computer work,” she replied.

“Thank you,” Jack said.

When the nurse had left, I sat up and got up to sit by his bedside.

“Good morning, Jack,” I said with a smile. He smiled only a little bit.

“Hey…” he said hesitantly.

“How are you feeling today?”

“Okay. My head hurts a lot but I can handle it,” he answered. He was acting a little off, not turning towards me, his voice husky and thick, eyes not meeting mine.

“Jack, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, just banged my head.”

“Jack, come on.”

“It’s okay, you find me weird anyways,” he said, turning away and sweeping his bangs over his eyes.

“What?”

“You said you thought I was weird. And not cute.”

“Whe- Oh…” It were probably the things Zack and Rian had asked. About me liking this football player. "Jack, that was not about you, I promise,” I said, begging. I just wanted to see his beautiful face again and kiss him and tell him how much I loved him.

“Who else? It clearly was me, who else would Zack and Rian ask such questions about?” he asked sharply.

“Jack, I promise it wasn’t about you, it was about this football player,” I said softly. Jack got the fringe away from his eyes and looked at me with tear-filled, bloodshot eyes.

“How can I be sure?” he snapped.

“Ask Rian and Zack. I swear on my life that it wasn’t about you,” I whispered. He looked me straight in the eyes for quite a while. I touched his cheek very cautiously and after initially tensing up, he accepted it. He even tilted his head sideways a bit to kiss my fingers. Which felt amazing.

“But Alex, how did I end up here?” he asked, blushing a little bit.

“You ran off into the cold and I lost you. I had to look for you for ages but eventually found you, you were unconsciously laying on the ground, completely undercooled…”

“Oh my God, I don’t remember anything of that,” he said ashamedly.

“Don’t worry,” I replied with a smile. We didn’t say anything for a while but then I spoke.

“Jay, I don’t think you are annoying or weird or anything else bad. And you are the cutest thing and person I know,” I said before bending down to kiss him. His soft lips felt so much better than the last time I had kissed him, warm and soft and they twisted up during our kiss, one of the best feelings to exist. I breathed in the little bit of his scent that wasn’t covered up by the smell of hospital. I enjoyed his warmth as he pulled me in for a tight hug and I eventually ended up being snuggled up in the bed with him, he in his usual position.

“Alex, I love you,” he mumbled.

“I love you more, to the moon and back,” I hummed happily.

I'm so sorry for not updating yesterday, I fell asleep before I had written my chapter because I was just too tired and my bed was too soft and warm... Sorry. I hope you can forgive me! :)
