Homeless
Don't you die on me (Alex POV)
Alex POV
Jack walked by me, grabbed his jacket and left. He didn’t even look back. He had a pained look on his face. I was worried about him.
“Guys I think I gotta go, Jack seems to have some problem. Thanks for the great time, see you soon,” I said quickly, grabbing my things, tossing a tenner on the table and leaving. I shouted for Jack on the street, trying to get his attention. But he started running.
I tried to keep up with him but at some point, I lost him. I wandered the streets, trying to find him. It started snowing, it was beautiful but I had no eyes for it. I had to find Jack. God knows what would happen to him otherwise.
I stumbled through a few quarters, feeling tired and exhausted but also nervous and scared. What if Jack was hurt? I panicked at the thought of it and forced myself to start running again. I ran until I was at some open square. I scanned it, not really thinking I’d find anything. But there was something lying on the ground.
My heart stopped and I got there was quickly as possible. It was Jack, already a bit covered in snow. I started crying, I was so happy I had found him. I touched his face. He was cold and instantly, I was scared and panicking again. I looked for his pulse. Thank God, there it was, strong and well. I took out my phone and called 911. I told them that I needed an ambulance and they sent one.
While waiting for it, I took off my coat. I put it over Jack and kissed his icy cheek. I went further down, to his mouth, and when I kissed his blue lips, his eyelids fluttered the tiniest bit. My heart beat faster. I kissed him again and he was now really waking up. I touched his cheek while watching him as he opened his eyes.
“Hey Jay, it’s me, Alex,” I said softly. He looked very confused.
“A… Alex?” he mumbled.
“Yes, Alex.” I said. He looked at me blankly before closing his eyes again. “Jay, don’t you die on me,” I said loudly, scared he would now die. But he was already back asleep. I did my best to make sure he would not cool any more until the ambulance arrived.
The paramedics put him on a stretcher and got him inside the car. I joined Jack in the back, holding his hand. He looked so pale and so blue. It was discovered that he had a small wound on the back of his head.
“Everything will be alright,” I whispered to him. He was now slightly awake again, disoriented and confused though. I did my best to comfort him.
At the hospital, I had time to think while he was being examined. What had happened? Why had he left? Had he lost his mind? I was so glad he was alive though, who knows how long he would have survived lying unconsciously in the cold.
When I was led to see him, he was in a hospital bed, asleep. According to the doctors, he only had a little wound on his head and a major concussion. He’d probably be able to leave very soon, they just wanted to keep him to watch over him. I was given a little by-bed to sleep in. I sat by his bed, looking at him, telling him how much I loved him and holding his hand until I was too tired to keep my eyes open. I lay down in the bed and held his hand while falling asleep.
