School was let out early on Friday. It was the day before April vacation, and Jack’s sister was coming to visit. As he walked down the corridor, he was rammed into the lockers. He hit his head hard, and fell to the ground. He heard Alex laugh above him.

“Where’s your bodyguard, Barakat?” He yelled, kicking Jack in the stomach. “Looks like there’s no one to save you today.” Alex hissed, grabbing Jacks shirt and pulled him up from the ground pushing him against the lockers again.

“What about you, Gaskarth? Where’s your rag tag team of idiots?” Jack said, gaining a burst of confidence. Just as soon as the words left his mouth though, he regretted it. Alex’s face went red with anger, and he punched Jack in the jaw then again in the ear. He could feel the blood trickle down his face.

“You think you’re big and bad, Jack? Huh? Just because you have yourself a senior friend?” He said, his voice so full of hatred. It made Jack wish he could just die. He wished that Alex would just kill him now. Jack shook his head slowly.

“Why don’t you just kill me, Alex? You hate me so much, you may as well do it. I bet your world would be so much better if I was just gone.” Jack wailed. Alex’s grip loosened, and his face twisted into a look of confusion, and surprisingly enough, hurt. Jack felt remorse for what he said.

“Why would you think that? I wouldn’t kill you. That’s too easy.” Alex said, his angry expression returning to his face. “Just watch your back, Barakat.” He said, shoving Jack and stalking off. Jack felt the lump in his throat, and he tried his best to swallow it. His eyes were burning with tears, and he wasn’t even sure why.

Jack made his way to the bathroom, getting a paper towel, and holding it up to his ear. His jaw was badly bruised, and he had a black eye. After cleaning himself up the best he could, he called his sister to pick him up from the school. He didn’t want to risk walking home alone.

“Hey, Jack” May said cheerfully.

“Hi, May. Could you come pick me up from the school?” Jack asked, his voice trembly slightly. He still felt like crying.

“Yeah, I’ll be there in fifteen minutes. Hang tight. I’ll see you soon.” May replied before the line went dead. Jack grabbed his bag off the counter, and headed down to the office to wait for his sister. As he approached the bench, he noticed someone sitting there. It looked as if they were crying. As Jack got nearer, he saw it was Alex.
