Alex gasped in surprise, sitting back on his heels. Jacks face turned a bright shade of red.

“I’m sorry, Alex.” He said, looking everywhere but at the stunned boy. “I don’t know what I was thinking.” He finished. Jack scrambled up into a sitting position, still not looking at Alex. He stayed quiet, and Jack decided to steal a glance at the older boy. His face was red, and he looked uncomfortable. “Lex.” Jack said, scooting closer. Alex stood up, looking back towards the trail.

“Hey, Jack. I’ll be right back, okay?” He said, stepping slightly to the side. Jack nodded, smiling sadly.

“Yeah, whatever.” He said, looking out towards the water. He heard Alex’s footsteps grow fainter, until finally they dissipated entirely. Jack let out an agitated, and angry sigh, and he punched the ground. A tear slipped from his eye, and he wiped it away, biting his lip slightly.

Jack pulled his socks and shoes off of his feet, standing up slowly and stretching. He glanced around, and began to walk. He walked for a good five minutes before the beach came to an end at a large rocky cliff. He approached it slowly, sitting down on the edge, and letting his legs dangle over. The view was calming, and it made him feel a lot better.

It was a good twenty minutes before Jack decided he should go back. He heaved himself up into a standing position, and made his way back to where his shoes were. Alex sat beside them, a worried expression on his face. When he saw Jack, he jumped up.

“Where have you been?” He asked, coming closer. “I told you I was coming right back.” Jack sat down and pulled his shoes back onto his feet, looking up at Alex.

“Sorry, I just wanted to check this place out.” Jack said, standing back up. Alex went quiet, kicking at a mound of sand. “I, uh, I’m gonna go.” Jack said, awkwardly walking away.

“Jack, wait.” Alex called after him. Jack kept walking. “JACK!” Alex shouted again, running up behind him. Jack stopped, turning to look at Alex.

“Alex, I’m going to go home. I’ll text you or something.” He said, turning to leave again. This time, Alex didn’t protest.

Jack laid in his bed, his finger hovering over the send button of his phone. He’d written Alex a text, and he was hesitant of sending it. He re-read it again out loud.

Alex,

I’m sorry I kissed you. I don’t know what I was thinking when I did that. I’ve been thinking about it though, and I don’t regret it. The reason I left so quickly is because the atmosphere was awkward because of my behavior, and I couldn’t bare it because I know you don’t feel the same way about me. It was also very stupid of me to do that, because we just started talking again. Again, I’m really really sorry...

He sighed, shutting his eyes, and letting his finger press the button. He opened them to see the “Sent” icon, and he got a sudden wave of anxiousness. He tossed the phone across his bedroom, watching it land in a mound of his dirty laundry. He rolled onto his side, facing the wall. He dozed in and out of sleep for a good half hour before his phone went off. His eyes shot open wide, and he scurried off his bed over to his phone. He looked at the screen to see Alex’s name, and his breathing hitched in his throat. He opened the message, and frowned slightly when he read the text.

Jack closed his phone, and dropped back to where it was. He walked out to the living room, and pulled the front door open to find Alex standing there with a goofy grin on his face.

“Alex, what are you doing here?” Jack asked, furrowing his brows. Alex smiled.

“Got your text.” Alex simply said. Jacks face began to burn, as he felt the blush climb up to his ears.

“Oh, uh, yeah. I’m really sorry about that whole thing, and I feel-” Jack began saying, but he was cut off to Alex’s lips pressing against his. His eyes grew wide before he realized what was happening, and then he let his eyes flutter closed as he returned the kiss.
