“Where are we going?” Jack whined, as he followed closely behind Alex. Alex, with a grin on his face, shrugged his shoulders.

“I told you Jack, it’s a surprise.” Alex said, picking up his pace. Jack followed suite, coming up beside him.

“But I want to know.” He said, hitting Alex’s arm lightly. Alex only shook his head.

“You’ll see.” He said, his hand brushing against Jacks. Jack jumped slightly, shoving his hands into his pockets and looking down at the ground so he wouldn’t see Alex’s hurt expression, because it was clear that he wanted to hold his hand. It went silent.

“Are we almost there, Alex?” Jack asked, after walking for at least ten minutes. Alex flashed a smile at Jack, nodding and pulling him off the sidewalk, onto a path in the woods. They stopped at the opening, Alex turning to Jack.

“Close your eyes.” He said, taking Jacks hand. Jack obliged, closing his eyes and letting Alex lead the way. He tripped on a root in the ground, or at least it felt like root, and almost fell on his face. Alex caught him, though.

“You’re a shitty guide.” Jack said playfully, grabbing onto Alex’s hand again, keeping his eyes shut tight. Alex chuckled, advancing forward. They walked for a good ten minutes, before Alex finally stopped.
“Okay, open your eyes.” Alex said excitedly. Jack followed orders, and opened his eyes, taking a sharp inhale of breath when he saw what was in front of him. A large beach was spread out in front of them at the edge of the woods, white sand stretching for miles. The waves splashed against the land, and racing back into itself. It looked as if no one had knew about this place, as if it’s been deserted forever. Jack turned to Alex, who had a smug look on his face. "Surprise!"

“How did you find this place?” Jack asked, turning back to look out at the ocean.

“Remember the time in eighth grade, when I got mad at my mom, so I ran away for a few hours?” Alex asked, coming up beside Jack, and sitting on the sand. Jack followed suite, lowering himself. He nodded. “Well, I walked for a while, until I stumbled upon the trail that lead to this.” He said, leaning back onto his arms.

“And you never showed me this?” Jack asked, resting his head on his knees and looking at Alex.

“I was going to show you. The day before we had to go back to school, but then that whole thing happened, and I couldn’t. I came here every day though, wishing that you were with me.” Alex said, frowning slightly. Jack only nodded, not speaking. They listened as the waves crashed against the shore, and the wind whistling through the trees.

“This place is perfect, Lex. Thank you for bringing me here.” Jack finally said, laying down on his back, and looking up at the clear blue skye. Alex chuckled, doing the same, but looking over at Jack.

“No problem.” He said, not taking his eyes off Jack. Jack glanced over to see this.

“Would you stop staring at me? Creep.” Jack said, laughing.

“Sorry.” Alex said, sitting up. Jack sat up as well, pushing Alex, making him fall over on his side. “You dick, I’m going to get you for that.” He said, scrambling up to his feet. Jack felt a surge of panic file through him, as Alex lunged forward. Jack rolled out of the way, getting up on his feet and running towards the edge of the shore. Alex got up, grabbing the back of Jacks shirt and pulling him back onto his back. He pinned him in the sand, straddling his hips so he couldn’t move. He grabbed a handful of sand, and shoved it in Jacks face. “Take that, you ass.” He said, laughing. Jack pushed him off, wiping the sand from his face, and sitting up. He grabbed a handful of the sand, and threw it at Alex, making him howl. “You got it in my eye, you fucker.” He said, rubbing his eyes.

“Oh my god, Alex. Are you okay?” He asked, coming closer to him, and trying to see his eye. “Let me see, Lex.” He said, moving his hand. Alex pounced, pinning Jack to the ground again, this time so he couldn’t move.

“I was joking.” Alex said, laughing loudly.

“You’re an ass.” Jack replied, struggling to get out of Alex’s grip. Alex leaned down, inches away from Jacks face.

“What are you going to do now?” He whispered, periodically glancing down at his lips.

“This.” Jack said, leaning up and pressing his lips against Alex’s.
