Prom was uneventful for me to say the least. No one to dance with. No one to tell me I looked stunning even though the guys did about ten billion times. Nothing. So as I sit at our table alone I take notice to the principal on stage with two crowns and a letter in his hand. Prom King and Queen? That’s …Wow. Speechless. “Ok. We’re ready to announce this year’s Prom King and Queen” he said earning a very enthusiastic response from the crowd of teenagers. “Prom King is…” he started holding for dramatic pause,”…Jack Barakat!”. Shocker. Jack excitedly ran up to the stage and received his crown. “This year’s Prom Queen had a close tie, and the winner is…” another hold for dramatic effect, “…Holly Madison”. Oh my god that’s a surprise. I’m guessing she secretly got her name put in twice as much. The runner up probably deserved it. “And the runner up was Elaina Gaskarth” he said quickly before making an exit from the stage. Now I really am speechless, and shocked. That really was surprising. Now Holly stood in front of the microphone with her sparkling tiara and skin tight purple dress ready to make a dazzling speech. Let’s listen ladies and gentlemen. “I just want to say that Elaina Gaskarth is in love with my boyfriend. Toddles” she said quickly just as our principal had. Except she made eye contact with me and had this shit eating grin on her face like she knew she won. She grasped Jack’s hand and pulled him off the stage and into the middle of the dance floor for a slow dance. As the crowd backed away giving them a decent amount of space to ‘have their moment’ I decided to push my way to the front of the crowd. The slow music played and they danced slowly and beautifully. I kind of want to vomit right now. It’s not even a sickening sweet. It’s just sickening. I stood there and watched. Feeling my anger build up, the fire was just burning through my arms. Pouf. Then Holly’s dress caught on fire. Quickly the song switched to Fire Burning and two guys ran over carrying the punch bowl drenching her completely. Good for Jack he saw the guys coming and stepped away watching his girlfriend get soaked. How lovely is life right now? Holly turned around and saw me laughing automatically assuming I had something to do with this. I did. “YOU had something to do with this” she shrieked, pointing her fake nail in my face. I simply shrugged, starting to walk away knowing my job was done here. Some people danced to the song that fit perfect to the event that occurred only two minutes ago, and some people laughed. Meanwhile, Holly dragged Jack into the hallway.
Jack’s pov
Holly grabbed my hand and dragged me into the hallway. I don’t know who did this, but they are brilliant. Once in the hallway she turned to looked about to say something, but stopped when I just about burst into hysterics all over again. “You think this is funny?” she screamed. “Considering the fact that I was laughing, yeah I do think that was funny”.
“Well do you think it’s funny when you no longer have a girlfriend?”
She was breaking up with me at prom. I’m heartbroken. “Yes, because I’m not the one who’s going to be upset about this”. She stared at me in total shock that I just agreed to her breaking up with me. As I turned to go back to the gym I heard her heels clicking on the floor behind me trying to catch up.
Elaina’s pov
After the moment died down I searched the crowd to find Alex, Jane, Rian, and Cassadee. Once I found them we stood around and chatted meanwhile I waited for Jack to come back into the gym. Not even five minutes later Jack sauntered in with a big smile that I doubt will go away. It’s either because he won the lottery or he and Holly broke up. I decided it was the latter. When he arrived by our group he simply grabbed my hand and lead me away from everyone else. Even when we were far enough away from everyone else he didn’t stop. When we were outside of the school in an open field he dropped my hand. He untied his tie then he lay down on the grass. I followed and looked up at the stars. This reminded me of the night we were on top of the apartment though it felt like we were on top of the world. As close to the stars as we could possibly get. We didn’t speak. Just lay there next to each other perfectly content with staring at the stars together.
