Who Said It Was Gonna Be Easy?

I decided to go to the teachers car park to listen to some music to clear my head instead of going finding Cass and putting myself in a situation where I had to talk to 4 strangers. I wasn't particularly bad at talking to strangers, I just didn't like it. New people were risky. They could ask you anything. They don't know what's acceptable to say to you or not. For example, they could ask me about my parents and then I'd end up ruining the chance of a friendship with them by snapping at them angrily or acting weird. In my view, the less people you talk to, the better. The less people who could get inside your head or your heart and break them from the inside out, probably causing irreparable damage. I was just in the mood to be by myself. Nobody could change that, not jack or Cass or anyone.

At lunch, Cass dragged me to the canteen excitedly. I hadn't been in there in at least a year. She pulled me over to a table in the corner of the room where 2 people were sat: a buff looking guy with brown hair (hot but not my type at all) and a girl with caramel coloured, wavy hair down past her shoulders and a cap on backwards. The girl had her back to me so I couldn't tell what she looked like. When I sat down I saw the caramel-haired girl was, in fact, a boy. Oops. My face reddened at my mistake and Cass pushed me into a seat.

"zack, vic, this is alex!" I looked up and then glanced at her nervously before staring back at my hands.

"hey, Alex! How're ya doing?"

"I-I'm ok" I looked up to see all 3 of them staring at me. The caramel haired boy grinned at me.

"I'm vic, this is zack" he said. Zack waved at me politely. I guessed he wasn't much of a talker.

"hi, guys" I said nervously.

"Tay!" Cass squealed. A dark haired girl with a button nose and a bright red beanie came and sat down next to me.

"you're alex?" she said, raising an eyebrow at me.

"um..yeah. Got a problem?" sudden confidence appeared from within me.

"maybe I do. What're you gonna do about it?" she smirked.

"Tay, stop it! Alex is taken" Cass laughed.

"what? Harmless teasing, not flirting" she defended herself with a laugh.

"you? Oh please. You'll flirt with anyone. Even if they're gay" a girl with mint green hair joined our table. They all laughed as Tay threw a chip at her. I chuckled, feeling more comfortable with the group already.

"I'm Jenna by the way. Nice t-shirt" she smiled at me. I looked down at it, my mind going blank as to what I was wearing.

"you like fall out boy?"

"dude, we all like fall out boy" vic laughed, eyes sparkling at me.

"it's weird to think they got started out at our age. Imagine just deciding one day at lunch that you were going to start a band with your friends and ending up world famous" zack said.

"hey guys, wanna start a band and end up world famous?" vic grinned.

"like any band with you in would get world famous. You'd never even make it out of your garage" Tay teased.

"sure he would. He might practice in his bandmates garage" Cassadee piped up. Everyone laughed, myself included. Vic pouted.

"I hate you guys" he complained jokingly. I caught his eye.

"well..except for Alex. He's done nothing. I HATE THE REST OF YOU THOUGH" he exclaimed. The rest of lunch continued in the same way; full of jokes and laughter. Nobody asked me anything I wasn't uncomfortable with. The only thing wrong was the whole time, I could see jack sat at a table at the other side of the room, watching me sadly the whole time. I tried to ignore him as he'd done to me but it was difficult. No matter what he'd done to me, I wanted to go over there and make the sadness leave his eyes.
