Who Said It Was Gonna Be Easy?

Jack nuzzled my jaw and I groaned. It was too early for him to be waking me up.

"lex, wake up"

"eugh..do I have to?"

"yes"

"you might have to kiss me awake"

"I'm cool with that" I heard him say. His lips were suddenly on mine and his tongue pushed into my mouth.


Our kiss ended too soon. Jack was suddenly pulling me up out of bed despite my attempts to stay in it. He lent me some clothes and I had a quick shower whilst he got changed and had breakfast.

"lex, you gonna have breakfast or lunch?" he asked optimistically through the bathroom door.

"no" I said, hearing him sigh and walk away.


Jack drove us to school in silence as I bit my nails nervously.

"are we telling anybody yet?" jack asked.

"um..no. Not yet" I told him. He nodded and took my hand away from my mouth.

"lex, chill. It's gonna be fine. Besides if you need me you'll be able to just ring me. We're here early so you can go and get your phone and charge it up in my room"

"oh yeah..ok.." I smiled reassuringly at him but inside I was still terrified. He must have known because he squeezed my hand gently as if to comfort me. We pulled up into the teachers car park and jack stopped the engine.

"ready?"

"nope" I said before sighing and getting out of the car. It surprised me how little cars were in the car park. I would have thought loads of teachers would have been there by now.

"I thought we'd come a bit earlier than normal" jack said as he came to my side. He took my hand in his, interlocking our fingers. I was glad he did it because it calmed me instantly. He kissed me on the cheek before starting to walk into school with a quiet "cmon". He walked with me to my locker and waited as I got my bag out and looked at my schedule for what books I needed.

"gimme your phone" he said. I handed it to him as I straightened the books up in my locker. He gave it back to me when I turned back round to go.

"what did you do?" I asked curiously. He held up my blade to show me then chucked it into a nearby bin.

"jack!" I exclaimed, starting to panic. It was my last one. What if I needed it?!

"shh. You mean too much to me. You're too important to me for me to just leave that with you. You don't need it. You're better than that. If you have the urge to use it, just come and find me. We can talk or cuddle or anything you want. Just please don't do that anymore. Please just try, at least" I looked down as he spoke. He took my hands in his and nudged my jaw gently so I looked up at him. He kissed me so softly as if he was scared of breaking me. It left butterflies in my stomach, fluttering around.

"please just try"

"okay..okay, I'll try" I whispered. Jack smiled and let go of my hands to cup my face. He kissed my forehead then wrapped his arms around me. When he released me he suggested we go to his room and charge my phone up. I nodded and followed him there. He got a phone charger out of his desk drawer and plugged my phone in for me.

"oh by the way, don't read my texts or listen to my messages if they're going to upset you"

"but I want to hear them"

"we can listen to them together later on then" jack smiled. We started talking apprehensively about the day ahead and didn't realise how much time had passed.

"shit lex, the bells gonna go in a few minutes!"
"oh..um.. I'm gonna leave my phone on charge till break, is that ok? It doesn't have enough charge to last"

"mmkay. Don't forget to come and get it then. Don't worry about today, you'll be fine" he said, pulling me close and kissing me on the head.

"mhmm ok. I'd better go" I said reluctantly. Jack nodded and let go of my hand. I waved to him as I left his classroom, hiding my face as I walked briskly to my form room. When I got there, I went straight to the back and sat down right in the corner. I tried to keep my face hidden so when the chair next to me pulled out and somebody sat in it, it took me by surprise.

"hey, Alex" a voice chirped happily. I looked up to see Cassadee sat next to me.

"what do you want?"

"ok so I know this is going to make me sound like a jerk but I've wanted to be your friend for ages. You seem really cool and I think we'd get along..I've just never approached you before because it would have gotten you more shit from rian and those other guys and because...because I was scared they'd start giving me shit too. But then when you were off school that day, jack threatened everyone with exclusion if they bullied you again so I figured you'd want a friend"

"what so I'm not worth the risk, is that what you're saying? Now you're safe, I'm finally just about good enough for you? I'm sorry but I don't want a friend like that"

"Alex, please. I didn't mean it like that"

"I don't care. Leave me alone."

"no."

"what?"

"I said no."

"fine but I'm not going to talk to you" I turned away from her.

"I think you and jack are really cute together" she said quietly a few minutes later.
