Alex

I pushed the front door open and tossed my keys in the small bowl on the kitchen counter as I made my way towards the living room. Before going in though, I took a deep breath to try and prepare for what ever was waiting in store for me.

"Hey mom," I smiled as I walked in.

"Where were you?" She deadpanned.

I looked at my dad who was behind her, sat on the couch, a stern look in his eye with his hands clasped tightly together. "I told you...I was at Jack's," I answered cautiously. "Why?"

"Why are you wearing that?" She sneered, ignoring my question and looking down her nose at me, "those aren't yours."

I looked down at my attire, "the shirt was a birthday present and I spilled cola down my pants last night," I lied, "So Jack let me borrow these."

"Stop lying, Alexander," My dad snapped, shaking his head and standing up, "we just had a call from Mrs Trohman."

"Who the hell is that?"

My mom gawped in horror, "Alexander, how dare you! Watch your mouth!"

I bit down on my tongue as a punishment for using the 'H' word in front of them.

"Mrs Trohman," my dad continued, face ever reddening, "Is a friend of your mothers, and Joseph's mother."

I wracked my brain until the name rang a bell in my head. Joseph Trohman. He went to my old Catholic school before it was closed down. Shit.

"O-oh?" I stammered, trying to stay calm.

"Oh? Oh?!" My mom gasped until my dad interrupted her.

"What were you doing with Jack?" He glared, breathing heavy.

I knew they obviously knew, that's who the woman in the café was who kept staring at us, an why I got a frantic phone call just minute later as we walked to the park. "We-we went to the café and then the park-"

"What did you do?"

"N-nothing-"

"STOP LYING TO US, ALEXANDER! MRS TROHMAN TOLD ME EVERYTHING!" My mom yelled, "CARE TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF?!"

I hung my head. They definitely knew, for sure. I stared at the soft Creme coloured carpet beneath me and wishing a hole would open up and swallow me so I wouldn't have to face any of this. How was I meant to reply, because an apology wouldn't make the slightest difference, and I couldn't tell them I was gay. I might not be, it could just be Jack or this might all be one of those 'experimental phases' that people go through sometimes.
I shook my head at the second possibility and I looked back up to see both parents staring wide eyed and red faced.

"Mom, I-"

"Get out of my sight!"

I slouched my shoulders in defeat as I knew they would just tell at me some more later and my dad would try and 'cleanse my soul' with holy water to try and 'purify' me. I managed to climb four or five stairs when I heard my mom say something that brought me to a sudden halt.

"Get me the phone, I'm calling the school."

I dashed back into the living room, looking between them frantically. "Why are you calling the school?!"

"I'm pulling you out-"

"No! Mom, you can't!"

"Watch me." She hissed, dialling a number and holding it to her ear.

I looked at my father for any sign of support, and of course, there was none. I couldn't be pulled out of school, not for this, and even with this whole situation, it would mess up my school record and I'd have to start the year over when August rolled around. Out of nowhere, I lunged at my mom and grabbed the phone just as she started speaking into it, and I hung up.

"What on Earth do you think you're doing?!" She exclaimed.

"You can't pull me out!"

"I'm your mother, and what I say, goes!" She argued.

"But it's the middle of the year! All my work will he for nothing, I'll have to do it all again-"

"I don't care Alexan-"

"I'll stay away from him!" I blurted desperately.

"I beg your pardon?"

"I, I said," I bit the corner of my cheek, hating to say it, to lie to my parents once again, but it was the only way I could stay in school, an of course, I would still see Jack, we would just have to be a lot more careful. "I said, I'll stay away from him...I won't see him anymore."

My mom looked at my dad, and he nodded back. Stupid parents secret conversations. "Here's the deal, Alexander," my dad said stepping forward so he was stood next to my mother, who finished off his sentence, "We'll keep you in school, but if we ever find out that you've been near that boy, you'll be taken out and we'll home school you. Do you understand?"

I nodded solemnly, rubbing my upper arm and looking around the room at anywhere but my parents.

"Understand?" She repeated.

"Y-yeah, I understand," I shrugged, now looking up at their disappointed faces, "I'm sorry."

"Go to your room please." My dad sighed, soothing my mother by rubbing small circles on her shoulder blades.

I didn't want to argue anymore, so I nodded and went upstairs where I flipped down to my bed and held back the tears. I could cry, I couldn't let them hear me cry because if they knew I was crying over a boy, all hell would break loose. Big time. I rolled on to my side so I could pull my cell out of Jack's pants pocket and I quickly opened his contact and wrote out a message.
