Nineteen

Jack went to take care of Mina when see cried. I rummaged through our fridge and pulled out some leftover spaghetti. I pulled out a frying pan from the pan cabinet next to the stove and started frying up my leftovers. Jack came down with little Mina against his chest, his strong strumming hand supporting her fragile head. Seeing my daughter and my husband together was so surreal. Six years ago, I was struggling with overcome fears of my father and my fears made me anorexic. Now I'm a mommy and very healthy and happy.
"Mina missed me," he beamed. Mina was asleep against his shirt.
"Well I'm in for a struggle when you leave next week for the tour," I said as I dished my fried spaghetti onto my plate.
"You'll have your mac and we'll face time every moment I can so Mina can see me and hear me," Jack said. That's when I decided to ask the one question I needed him to answer.
"Is she a wolf or a hunter," I asked.
"It's too soon to tell. Maybe by the time I leave I'll be able to tell. Your scent covers hers right now. Regardless of if she's a wolf or a hunter, I will spoil her like crazy," Jack was definitely going to be a great father with his answer.

While I was washing my dishes, Jack watched Home Alone with MIna in the football hold as he bounced his leg to rock her softly. The doorbell rang and woke Mina up. Jack brought her to his chest and cooed her back to peaceful quiet. I dried my hands and answered the door to find my mom and Jack's parents on the doorstep.
"There's our new mommy," my mom beamed as I hugged her.
"Where's my little granddaughter," Mama Barakat asked. Jack got up from the couch as his mom came in and showed the sleeping bundle to her.
"Mom meet Cosmina Elizabeta Barakat," Jack handed Mina to his mom. Jack's dad and my mom huddled up to my mom to see Mina.
"She is so beautiful Mirela. You and Jack did good," my mom gushed. Mina finally opened her eyes for the first time. I saw bright blue eyes with chocolate brown rims on the outside of her irises.
"So how long are you staying Momma," Jack asked while his mom handed Mina to my mom.
"We're staying until after Mina's baby shower. Then we're going back to Baltimore," she answered.
"I will be staying with Mirela and Mina while you are on tour Jack. I want to keep Mir company and to catch up on the last six years I missed," My mom answered, then Mina cried.
"Someone's hungry. I'll take her mom," my mom hand Mina to me and I took her upstairs to breastfeed her, I came back down, a sleeping Mina in my arms to Jack and our parents sitting in the living room bonding and talking about how the pregnancy went. I sat down gently next to Jack, careful to not wake up Mina. That's when my mom came and sat next to me.
"Let's put her to bed Mir," I rose and I had her follow me to rhe nursery. I put Mina into her crib and my mom started to sing the lullaby she used to sing to me when I was little and when we had first moved to Baltimore. She sang it in Romanian just like I had remembered.

That night though, I woke up every ten minutes to Mina's cries. I had to take her into the cool air because she was screaming adn she felt flushed. Bonnie had joined me. Since bringing Mina home, Bonnie had become very attached to her and protected her as if Mina was her pup. Tonight was a full moon and Jack was out in the yard, standing on guard of the house.
"She won't stop crying Jack," I replied to the worried look in his eyes as I sat on the edge of our patio deck. That's when I saw Mina turn into a little newborn wolf pup. I was shocked. I thought wolves didn't turn until they accepted what they were. Mina wasn't black like her daddy though. She was a little ball of white.
"Well that answers my curiosities. She's a wolf like her papa," I said. Then I heard someone join us. I turned and saw my mom.
"Hunter and wolf couples are rare Mirela. When they have children, if the child gets the wolf trait from a parent, then as soon as a full moon comes, they will turn. Your father was ashamed to have the posiblity of having a wolf grandchild. He knew that the baby would turn on a full moon. When she's older and throwing temper tantrums, she'll turn. You two have to teach her how to keep her cool and to avoid causing trouble. Or Cosmin will have no choice but to harm Mina," she was heartbroken with telling me this. I was hurt too. Knowing that we had to be very careful with Mina.

I took Jack out ot the meeting spot for the bus. Mina was back at the house with my mom and Jack's parents. We kissed and held each other for a long time before he handed me a CD.
"I made it while I was out at practice. It's just my guitar parts from all of my favorite songs to play. So Mina can sleep at night," he said before he kissed me again.
"I'll play it all the time for her. You be careful on the road. Don't cause problems on full moons," I lectured playfully.
"Don't worry Mir. He won't step out of line. As alpha he will be on a tight leash," Alex said as he came up to lean on Jack. He and I hugged quickly.
"If he missbehaves, bite him on the ear for me," I joked.
"I'll bite you on the ear," Jack came up and bit my ear lightly.

I got home to find my mom and Mama Barakat looking at old scrapbooks. I found out they were ones of when Jack was growing up. I sat next to Mama Barakat and we had a good laugh at little Jack being goofy. That's when I got a phone call from Jack.
"So do you miss me," he asked as soon as I picked up the phone.
"Well of course I do," I told him.
"I want you to know I love you very much. I want you to make sure Mina is inside the house when she has to transform okay. I want her in the house where she'll be safe," he instructed.
"I had already planned on it. I'm having my mom retraining me in my old hunter skills so I can protect Mina. She got in touch with Uncle Cosmin and told him about her. He's going to try bending the rules for us so we can make MIna has a chance to make mistakes so she can learn," I told him, "Oh and we're looking at old scrapbooks here. Your mom brought some and we've been having a good laugh."
"I'm going to die of embaressment now," he joked.
"Don't worry. I'll be blushing when my mom brings out mine," I told him, 'Now get back to work mister."
"Yes ma'am," he joked as we hung up the phones.

Notes

I'm going to be added Mina's wolf to the characters soon. But when she's couple months old though. I love Mir's mom since she's come to terms with Mirela's choices. The lullaby is Nani, Nani. I wasn't going to try putting in the lyrics and translations since I'm being a little lazy with getting ready to leave my parents' house to go back to my dorm today. Thank you to my adoring public.
