Terrible Things

Statements

“Caroline Fuentes, October twenty fifth two thousand and thirteen.”
“I met Emily and Ashley on the morning of the twenty fifth and they were fans of mine and my fiance's bands. I offered to take them shopping for CD's as they didnt own any and I didnt mind having some company. We got coffee and I brought the sisters their favourite bands CD's. I then walked them home and returned to my fiance who was..”
“State his name for the record.”
“I returned to my fiance, Alexander Gaskarth, who was uncertain about the repercussions of me spending too much time with fans. Later we received a call from the girls who said that their mother had found the CD's and left saying she could not live in a house with Satan worshipping children. My understanding was the girls were both under eighteen, seventeen and fifteen to be exact and I didn't think it was appropriate for them to be alone in a house when their mother had gone to stay with family out of state. Alex and I invited them back to our house so they had a safe place to stay and the girls accepted. I don't think that's kidnapping.”

“Alexander Gaskarth, October twenty fifth two thousand and thirteen.”
“I was at home and checking my twitter and instagram feed when I came across the photo of my fiance, Caroline Fuentes, with two fans. I called her to ask what she was doing and she came home immediately. I informed her of the dangers of this, stalking and the like, and she agreed with me not to do it in future. We received a call from the two girls later in the day saying that their mother had left to live out of state as she didn't want to be around satan worshiping children. We invited them to stay with us for the week to see how things panned out so that they could be safe. We were trying to protect two under-aged girls. “

“Ashley Purdy, October twenty fifth two thousand and thirteen.”
“I joined the party at about ten o'clock and the two girls opened the door. They seemed perfectly happy to be with Alex and Carrie. The pair refused to let them drink, didn't drink much themselves so they could care for the girls and fed them. I see them as taking good care of the girls, not kidnapping them.”

“Ashley Thorpe, October twenty-fifth, two thousand and thirteen.”
“Alex and Carrie were just trying to help us. We had been abandoned, accused of being satanist and were offered a safe place to stay. Those two are constantly in the public eye, why would they kidnap my sister and I? They took better car of us than our distant and obsessive mother ever did. We were there willingly, with the option to leave whenever. It was not a kidnapping.”

I hugged Vic after he gave his statement. We were all a little shaken by the incident. It wasn't every day that police turned up and arrested every single one of you. I snuggled into Alex's neck and sighed. The girls mother was glaring at us from across the hall and kept crossing herself whenever we made eye contact. A police officer emerged with Emily and disappeared into the room next door, where the detective was situated. We waited in silence for the verdict.
"Miss Fuentes, Mr. Gaskarth. We'd like to see you both for a moment." I jumped off Alex's lap and held his hand as we passed the detective and found two seats in the small, grey room.
"We have decided to charge Mrs. Thorpe with neglect and rid you of your kidnapping suspicion." I squeezed Alex's hand. This was good. "We don't particularly like putting two children as old as these into care for what may possibly be a short while. Would you be interesting in becoming their temporary guardians? Until the trial?" I slowly turned to look at Alex who had on a perfect poker face.
"I... when's the trial?" Alex asked the detective.
"At the moment it is scheduled for November tenth. But it may be subject to change. Until then we'd rather the girls don't live with her, due to the nature of the charges." Alex nodded.
"They can stay with us." Really? I looked at Alex, shocked, not long ago he was keen to be rid of them. "We have enough room." I broke into a massive smile and agreed while the detective shook our hands and slid papers across the table. We signed our names on the temporary guardianship form and the girls were called into the room and told the news. Emily jumped and hugged Alex while I high-fived Ashley.

Everyone had gone straight home from the station except Ashley and Vic. Emily and Ashley picked up the rest of their stuff from their house and we set up a few rules. No boys in the bedroom, we were technically their parents now so they did what we said and followed our rules. No drinking unless we give the drinks to them, no drugs, home by ten unless they ask. God, we really would be ready for teenagers after this. The girls took it all on board and offered to make dinner. Alex and I relished the opportunity to relax together and watched some of the Ravens game on the tv while the smells of pasta and mince wafted in from the kitchen.
"Smells great!" Alex called. Both girls giggled and replied that good home-schooled christian girls knew how to cook. "Yeah, we should get you a tutor. I'll ring around." The two girls groaned at the suggested but quickly sucked it up, remembering our rules. Ashley and Vic returned from the store with monsters and taffy, just like Emily had requested. Ashley walked up behind Ash and wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek. We really needed to find a nickname for our Ashley, because this was getting confusing. "Hands off, Purdy." Alex growled. Ashley laughed and let go of the girl, waltzing over to us, a smirk on his face.
"And the parenting starts now." We all laughed at how true the statement was.

I sat staring at the stick. No. This couldn't be happening. No, I was meant to get married first, then fill up that beautiful nursery. The two pink lines laughed at me, declaring that my life was over. Not that I minded, it just happened in the wrong order. We had only been the official guardians of Emily and Ley for three days and our enitre life was about to be tipped upside down.
"Alex baby!" I shouted from the ensuite. "Alex, come in here."

Notes

Why all so quiet? Let me know what you think :)

Comments

This story is so good! OMG. I just found it and started reading it yesterday, and haven't stopped. I just caught up with all of the updates you have of it and really love it.
It's a very dark fan fic. Specifically with the first half, honestly one of the darkest I've read actually... like with that curse of everything happening on Sundays? Man... and you just kind of kept it up too. It was just very dark, and sad, but... different. And I really like that about this.
The second half seems to be deviating from that a little bit, but I sensed that coming back with the babies thing. I mean, not that I want anything to happen, but I almost feel you had something bad happening planned with the pregnancy. Perhaps not, perhaps that was just to raise some of the tone as opposed to keeping it happy go lucky, who knows. But I found it interesting how you did that.
I'm glad that Alex and Carrie finally got together, with the first part of this I was just screaming GET TOGETHER until they finally did. lol. And I was happy. :)
I found it a bit odd how they just took in those fans though. On a realistic writing level, the oddity of this story was the curse thing. But adding the fans thing in too, it just... it didn't really fit. Especially considering legalities and all of that. I feel like it was a little too easy that they gained guardianship.
But overall, I have enjoyed Alex and Carrie's love story. I'm sad to see it was never finished, so I'm leaving this comment to let you know if you ever do choose to finish it, I will be here to read, for sure. I'd love to see how it all ends for these two. Even if it's just a final chapter wrap up or something; I understand what it's like losing inspiration.
But yeah, sorry if this comment sounded harsh at all, but just wanted to leave my honest thoughts. I think you're a truly great writer, though, and hope you have at least kept up with it in your free time. :)
