Star Light, Star Bright

"Bow ties are cool."

The lanky seventeen year old walks out into the living room to find Alex just waking up. The elder stretches his limbs and then rubs his eyes some. Jack doesn’t really know what to do, so he just stands there until the slightly shorter man notices him. Luckily, it doesn’t take him long to do with. With one last crack of his neck, he gets and and smiles at Jack. Alex gets up and makes his way to the kitchen.
“Are you hungry?” Alex asks the boy from the sky. This boy just simply nods. “I’m not really in the mood to cook... Would you be ok if we just ate some Cookie Crisp?”
“What’s that?”
“It’s cereal. You’ll probably like it.”
The nineteen year old takes the milk out of the fridge along with two bowls that were in one of the three cabinets and the cereal that was in one of the other ones. Along with those, he also grabs two spoons. Alex places the items on the counter before opening the cereal and pouring some into both bowls. He does the same thing with the milk and then puts the box and the milk away. For the finishing touch, he puts in the spoons. Alex hands one of the bowls to Jack, who had been watching in amazement the whole time, and then has the younger follow him over to the couch. The two of them sit down on them. The slightly taller teen puts his feet onto the coffee table, so Jack repeats what he did along with taking a bite of the sugary food since Alex had done the same thing.
The younger teen doesn’t really know what to make of the food. It’s absolutely delicious. It may be one of the best things that he has ever eaten. his dark brown eyes stare at the bowl in his hands. This “Cookie Crisp” must be expensive. It’s not all that easy just to buy actually cookies. He can’t even imagine how much this mouthwatering dish must be. Jack doesn’t even know if he should be eating it. It’s bad enough that he took the kind teen’s bed last night. He doesn’t want to eat all of the expensive food.
Perhaps that it isn’t all that bad to Alex. Maybe the reason why he’s ok with letting him eat this food is because he’s rich. That would explain why the building he lives in is so big and how he has a vehicle that runs on “gas”. Although, his actual place isn’t that big, and he doesn’t have a guest room. That might just be because he has no need for guests or extra room. He might just like it this way.
“Hey, Alex,” Jack hesitantly says.
“Yeah?” Alex questions with a raised eyebrow. As far as he knows, he has not done anything to make the younger nervous.
“Are you... Are you rich?”
Alex almost wants to chuckle, but he doesn’t want to hurt Jack’s feelings. “No. I mean, my family has a little bit more money than the average family. That’s how I can have my own apartment and not have to live on campus. Of course, the fact that I didn’t pick an expensive college has to do with that too. My dad is helping me pay for this place until I’m able to support myself more. My dad is pretty cool. Dads are suppose to be there for their children, and my dad is always there for me. It can be a little annoying, but I still love him.” Alex expects Jack to question his use of “cool” or campus. He doesn’t think that Jack would mumble about family, but he does.
“Dads aren’t always there for their family. Sometimes they think they know what’s best... Maybe he was right after all...”
“Jack?”
Jack’s eyes widen. “What? Did I say something?”
“You said that Dads aren’t always there for their family and that maybe he was right after all. What was that about? Did your dad think differently than you or something?”
“I don’t really remember. I just know that he was probably right about whatever it was about.”
“Oh, that reminds me that I’m going to try to help you get your memories back starting today. I tried to look you up, but nothing came up. You probably don’t know where you’re from. That would be a huge help because I didn’t really find anything for this area.”
“What is this area anyway?”
“I can’t believe I didn’t tell you. This is Maryland, and we’re not too far away from Baltimore. Does that sound familiar to you.”
“Yeah,” Jack sniffles. “I’m from this area.”
Alex immediately puts down his and Jack’s cereal before pulling the younger teen in. His hand rubs his back in a soothing manner. “It’s ok, Jack. I’m here for you.”
“Mommy,” the little boy with big brown eyes asks, “can I go out to play with my friends?”
“Not today, sweetie,” his mother replies. “I would prefer it if you played inside the house today. Why don’t you go and play with-”
“I want my mommy!” Jack starts to sob as he clings onto Alex’s shirt. “I’m not ready for this! I want to go home!”
“Ready for what?”
That’s when Jack snaps out of it. The tears start to go slowly come to a stop, and he looks up at Alex. “I don’t remember. I just know that I was in over my head. I kept all of it hidden. I wanted to go home.”
“And you still want to go home.” Jack shakes his head. “You don’t?”
“I may not understand anything here, but I actually like it. I feel safe when I’m with you. I don’t know why. Alex, can I... can I stay here with you?”
“Well, I can’t just throw it out on the street, so yes, you can stay with me for as long as you need to.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. Now, why don’t we watch some TV? I don’t have anything to do today, and I think we should hold off on the questions for right now.”
Alex turns the TV on and changes the channel. Jack still finds it memorizing. On the screen appears some man in with a box who is also holding some kind of device. The younger doesn’t really understand it, and he doesn’t really like it. Although he doesn’t really know what part about it that makes him not like it. I might just be because he doesn’t understand anything that’s coming out of the man’s mouth. He thought that what Alex was explaining to him was confusing, but this really is confusing.
“What is this?” he finally asks the nineteen year old, who he is still holding onto.
“Huh? Oh, this is just Doctor Who. You probably don’t get it. It’s ok if you don’t. Even if you actually did understand all of the modern stuff, you would still be confused unless you watched it from the beginning. If you don’t like it, I can just turn the channel.”
“No, don’t. It’s fine. I guess that I can try watching it. Will you at least explain some things if I really don’t get it?”
“Of course I will. It would be my honor to introduce you to the Whoniverse. After this episode, I can go to episode one since I have the box sets. Would you be ok with that?”
“Yeah, it’s fine. I can try to get into it. Besides, bow ties are amazing.”
“I believe you mean, as the Doctor says it, ‘bow ties are cool’.”

Notes

I was going to write this over the weekend, but my weekend ending up becoming more of a Doctor Who weekend than I thought it would be. It's just that the 50th was so good...
Anyway, there are some more clues in there. Hopefully I didn't make them stick out too much. I know that one of them doesn't stick out.
It's kind of a sad chapter for Jack, but he is so cute in the beginning when he thinks that Alex must be rich for being able to buy Cookie Crisp. I'm definitely keeping all of this cute stuff for as long as I can.
Thanks for reading! :)
