Star Light, Star Bright

The Mall, Pt. 1

“I still don’t get how the Doctor is all of these different people,” Jack sighs as he rests his head on the nineteen year old’s shoulder. “If he’s still the same person in that newer episode, why does he act different?”
“Well, since you don’t really get all this sci-fi stuff, you can see it as an opportunity to become someone different. It’s kind of like in the 50th when... Wait. I don’t want to spoil that for you. I guess that it’s like...”
“It’s fine. I’m sure I’ll get it when the 9th finally becomes the 10th which you said was at the end of this season.”
“Yeah, he’s only the Doctor for the first season. The 10th and the 11th last longer than that.”
“And the one with the bow tie is the 11th.”
“Yeah.”
“There is still something I don’t like about this show, but I still don’t know what it is.”
“Well, I watch other shows too. I can always just put those on. They’re on Netflix.”
“No, it’s fine.”
“We can always take a break from Doctor Who. We can go to the mall if you want.”
“What’s the mall?”
“It’s this building with a bunch of stores in it. We just happen to live by the biggest in the county, Towson Town Center. It’s got over 190 stores.”
“That’s huge!”
“You need some clothes, and I’m always open to seeing what new shirts they have at Hot Topic. Do you want to go?”
“Yeah, but you’ll be the one paying for it all. ”
“Don’t worry about it. I can always think of way for you to pay me back. I could have you clean this place up while I’m at my classes.”
“I’ll do it. I’d rather actually do something for you than nothing at all.”
“Ok. I have a class tomorrow, so you can pick stuff up off the floor. I’ll teach you how to run the vacuum when I get back from class. Now, let’s go to the mall!”
Alex gets up and goes to the bedroom. When he comes back out, he hands Jack a pair of skinny jeans, a belt, a pair of boxers, and another Blink-182 T-shirt. Jack takes them with him into the bathroom to change. As he does that, Alex takes out his wallet and examines the contents. He doesn’t know how much clothes he’s going to buy for the seventeen year old, but he knows that what he has on him will not be enough. Luckily, he has been saving money for the next concert and just in case he sees something that he really really wants.
The nineteen year old goes over to where this money is which is in his piggy bank in his bedroom. He doesn’t even care that he’s an adult. He’s going to save his money in his fucking piggy bank! Ok, it was a gift from his mom, but that doesn’t mean that he has to use it. Ok, it does. Alex opens the bank up and grabs about as much as he thinks he’ll spend on Jack and then closes the stomach back up. Maybe his mom wouldn’t be that upset if he started to actually use the real bank...
When Jack comes out of the bathroom, he turns to find Alex coming out of his bedroom. He gives him a little smile and just waits for Alex to finish whatever he’s doing. The nineteen year old isn’t really doing anything. He’s kind of just staring at Jack. He can’t help but think that he looks really good in skinny jeans. They hug his legs in all the right ways and...
“Alex?” Jack questions. “If you’re staring at me because I wasn’t allowed to use your comb, I’m sorry...”
“No, it’s ok,” Alex cuts in as he blushes. “You look good.”
“Um, thanks.”
“I have some money, so let’s go now.”
Jack nods a little and follows Alex out of the building and to his car. Jack pulls on the handle that is on the side that he was on last night. He gets inside the same time that Alex is. He watches as the elder grabs some kind of fabric that’s attached to the seat and next to the seat and hook it into place so it’s going across him. Jack follows his actions. The nineteen year old notices this and gives him a small smile to tell Jack that that was right. Jack smiles back.
“Do you want to listen to some music?” Alex questions.
“This, um, car has one of those devices?”
“Yeah, it’s right here. I already have a CD in. I just have to hit play.” Alex’s finger presses the button after turning the car on. “It’s Blink-182 just like the CD I had in last night. They’re the band on your shirt.”
“I really like them.”
“I could teach you some of their songs when I teach you how to play guitar.”
“Really? That’d be great!”
“Yeah. I don’t know how long we’re going to be at the mall, so I can teach you some after I teach you how to use the vacuum tomorrow.”
“You said that you’re going to be gone tomorrow. How long will you be gone?”
“I won’t be gone too long. My class is in the morning. Sadly, all of my classes are morning classes this semester. The day after tomorrow, I’ll be working after my class, so I won’t be home ‘til later. I can show you how to use Netflix when we get home to keep you busy, and you can work on guitar while I’m at work to.”
“Ok.”
They reach the mall, and Alex parks in the parking garage attached to the building. The entire drive and parking, Alex had Jack close his eyes. He wanted Jack to see how big it is without getting a preview from the outside. Alex is really happy that he did that too. They aren’t even in the mall park, but Jack’s mouth is open, and his eyes are wide. Alex smirks to himself before going over to Jack’s side of the car to wait as the younger got out.
Jack almost trips while getting out of the car because he can’t believe what he is seeing. He knows that this isn’t the mall park of it, and it’s already so big! Not to mention that there are a ton of cars. Now he really does know that cars aren’t so expensive that only the rich can afford them. Unless Alex was lying to him, and this is a rich neighborhood. Jack knows that Alex wouldn’t do that though.
The nineteen year old nudges Jack to get his attention before starting to walk into the actual mall. The taller of the two walks next to him, but gets even closer when he finally sees how big the four level mall is with all the people inside. He almost wants to grabs the elders hand, but he knows that that would be weird. Besides, Jack’s seventeen. He shouldn’t be acting like such a child. He’s a man, and he can be independent. Alex starts to go through the crowd. Jack get’s nervous and grabs Alex’s hand. Ok, he can’t be independent, but can you blame him. He is in a time that he knows nothing about with barely any memories. That’s what he keeps telling himself.
“Let’s go to Hot Topic first. I want to go to the CD store after that. Oh, and maybe if I’m not broke, I can take you to Burger King.”
“It’s not expensive, is it? It sounds like it.”
Alex chuckles. “No, it’s not expensive. They have a dollar menu.”
“Dollar? Do we call our money that? It’s not Spanish right?”
“Um, no. It’s the American dollar.”
“Sorry.”
“It’s ok.”
“Is a dollar a lot of money here?”
“No, it’s not.”
“Ok, and Alex?”
“Yeah?”
“What’s a Burger?”

Notes

I would have had this up sooner, but I couldn't write in the library barely any this week. Monday our alarms were messed up and went off while I was there. Tuesday was testing in the library, so I couldn't be in there. Yesterday was really busy. Does the world not want me to update?
Anyway, Jack's not remember a lot in this chapter, but he does remember currency apparently. I just love how it ends with Jack asking a question. It reminds me of chapter 2.
Anyway, I hope you're like it, and I haven't given too much away. Don't forget that you can guess! :)
