Bulletproof Love

Compliments in the Headlights

Victoria guessed she should’ve counted herself that 30% lucky to have lost her virginity while her parents were away.

Why was that considered a life goal for people? Why did virginity mean so much? Why did we―as people of society―care for who’s had sex and who hasn’t? Why did we have to put a label? Labels―in any form―make ourselves feel like shit. So why put a label on who’s put out and who hasn’t? For some reason, these were the things running through Victoria’s head as she cocooned her bare form in a blanket as Alex, who looked the same as her, nestled his sleeping head into her shoulder.

Stranger things have happened, she thought to herself as she felt Alex’s head stir a little. What made this time so right? Is this what she’s going to tell people when she’s older? “Oh, yeah, I lost my virginity when I was a junior in high school and after I had a major fight with my boyfriend.” Typical.

She was even more surprised at the fact Alex wasn’t repulsed by her in the flesh. She wasn’t scrawny like she wanted to be. She had curvy hips and not the largest chest. She was the complete opposite of all the girls who wanted Alex. Whenever she looked at her bareness in her mirror, she always wondered the same thing: why did Alex want her? He could have any girl, literally. He puzzled her so much.

Victoria watched the sun set over the horizon and soon looked over at Alex, who continued to sleep until his heart’s content. She nudged him in the side and he fluttered his eyes open. “Is it morning yet?” He asked through his drowsiness.

“You need to get home for dinner. Your parents are going to kill you.” She said, getting up from the mattress.

He rubbed at his eyes, “Like they haven’t before.”

“You can come back over later,” she gathered her clothes and started to change, “but for now, Gaskarth, you need to go before they suspect something.”

He got up and walked over to her, swaying her hips. “Oh, so you want me to come over later?”

“Put some pants on, and then we’ll talk.”

All he did was laugh as they both got dressed, sneaking glances back and forth and resisting their urges. Once they were done, Victoria secured a blanket around her shoulders again, seeing as it was a little chilly outside, and walked Alex across the street. They walked hand in hand, shuffling together in the same movement. Just as they crossed the street, Alex stopped them in the middle of the road.

He leaned close to her mouth, whispering, “I love you more than anything.”

She smirked, uttering back, “And I love you as much as I love pizza.” His eyelashes wavered and she caught his brown eyes trained on hers suspiciously. “That was a compliment, by the way.”

He chuckled softly and pressed his lips to hers, but only for a moment until she saw a pair of headlights in the distance. She pushed him back and laughed, “Go back to your house!”

“The feeling is mutual, Hamilton!” He grinned.

They both walked backwards to their houses, their eyes never leaving each other’s. Wow, she thought to herself, I really am in love with him.
