Bulletproof Love

Success Comes With a Side of Girls

All Time Low’s performance at the dance had spread around the school. The band was surrounded with nothing but good reviews. Everybody had really enjoyed them, even the teachers. Besides, no one found out Jack was the culprit who spiked the punch bowl, so there was literally nothing but good news for everyone in the band.

The great reviews came with more gigs. Kids constantly came up to Jack and Alex to get the band to play at their parties. Jack even got a few calls for some 18 or older clubs to play at. (Victoria, sadly, couldn’t attend those performances.)

Victoria was really happy for Alex and his band’s new fame, but she couldn’t help but be a bit upset. She didn’t mind all the band practices and gigs, or any of that. What bugged her is that she couldn’t have a simple conversation with her boyfriend in the halls or the parking lot without guys coming up to him, screaming, “Duuuuuuuuuuude!” Then there were the girls. The whole band was surrounded by girls all the time, trying to get the guys’ attention. Especially Alex, which bugged her to the very core.

She had never really been a jealous person, but boy, was she jealous now.

It had been a really long and stressful Monday. It was the Monday after Christmas vacation, and Victoria didn’t really mind that the whole week was spent at band rehearsals. She was just glad she got to spend her vacation with Alex. If there had been other people with them, then her attitude would’ve been a different story.

She sprinted to Alex’s car in the senior lot, being careful not to slip on the ice. He had ended up ditching school that day because he was “too tired from Christmas vacation to get up,” in his words. She didn’t mind though, especially when she spotted him leaning on his car with two coffees.

“Hamilton!” He called, spreading his arms. “You’re looking especially frosty today.” He wiped a little snow off her nose.

She giggled. “I try, Alex. I try.” She practically melted into him against the car as she pressed her lips to his. She leaned away, plucking a coffee from his hand and allowing that free hand to hold her closer to him. “I’m guessing this is for me?”

“Nah, I just need a lot of energy.” He chuckled.

“Let’s just get in the car before we turn into actual snowmen.”

He pulled her back a bit to him. “Aw, but you’re hot when you’re an almost human icicle.”

She lofted a brow. “I don’t even know why you try with jokes anymore.”

Just as they were about to get in his car, they heard a girlish squeal near. “Alex!” They rang in Victoria’s ears like a bird.

Victoria turned her head and watched three girls she had never even seen before approach Alex and embrace him. She watched Alex laugh and smile and go along with it, like he knew them. Victoria rolled her eyes and crossed her arms across her chest. She was officially done with this.

“Um, Alex?” she called, and was surprised when he actually turned to her. “It’s freezing out and we kind of have to―”

“It’s okay. I’ll meet you in the car, babe!” He continued laughing along with the girls.

Victoria knew it was childish, but all she wanted to do then was stomp her feet on the ground and yell at those girls. But she couldn’t, so she angrily yanked the car door open and went inside. It didn’t really help when she saw the girls in the side mirror kiss his cheek and prance away.

He came into the car laughing and with a big grin on his face. Victoria anxiously wondered what could’ve been so funny.

Throughout the whole car ride, Alex tried to start up conversations with her, but Victoria constantly shot them down and stared out her car window furiously. She knew how much of a bitch she must have looked like for being jealous, but she couldn’t help her feelings. Catching on to her anger, Alex questioned her once they arrived at her house.

“Okay, what the hell is your deal?”

She turned her head to him, eyes wide. “Are you really trying to find out what’s wrong like that?”

“What do you mean?”

“You should know what’s wrong.” She muttered under her breath.

“How?!”

They stared angrily at each other for a minute before Victoria finally decided to speak her mind.

“Alex, I know you’re really happy with the success of the band, and I’m really happy for you, but I can’t help by being just a bit pissed with all the people interrupting us.” She put her hands up in defense. “There. I said it.”

He sat back in his seat, rolling his eyes. “This is about those girls, isn’t it?”

“Oh, not at all. I enjoy watching my boyfriend being touched and flirted with by a bunch of slutty girls he doesn’t even know.” She frowned.

“Why are you acting so jealous? You’re being stupid and freaking out over things you shouldn’t be.”

She felt a bit hurt. How could he not understand? Victoria knew ATL would become big someday and have this happen all the time, but she wasn’t ready for it now and it was really getting to her.

With one last hurt look, she said, “You’ll never understand anyways.” And then she walked out of the car.
