Fall for Winter on Our Own

His Secret Known

The lanky light haired teen makes his way over to the other side of the room where there are various bookshelves. He starts to scan through them. Enid has no idea what he’s looking for, but she goes over to help anyway. Of course when she does get over to where he is, she just stands there. Aeolus notices this and turns around to face her.
“Are you going to help?” he asks. “You don’t really have to. It should be somewhere around here.”
“No, I’ll help. What are you looking for?”
Aeolus turns back around and starts to look again. “I’m looking for a certain book that lists all of the elemental guardians. Although they didn’t like to be known, they always kept records for themselves and the generation after them. According to my mom, they thought of themselves as family. Even if the world is against them, they still have each other, so just like other families, they kept records of everyone.”
“That makes sense.”
It takes them about five minutes before Aeolus speaks up with a smile on his face. “I found it.” He takes it off of the shelves and sits down on the straw bed. He opens the book and starts to look through it when Enid sits down next to him. “Um, why don’t you look over at that cabinet over there and see what all we have to work with.”
“Oh, um, ok.”
The brunette does as she’s told and goes over to the cabinet. As she sorts through everything Aeolus looks back at the book. Names are listed down the pages along with their birthday and element. The whole groups are connected with lines. The blond flips through the pages and stops when he gets to the last one that with writing on it. The elementals for the group are listed from oldest to youngest.
All of a sudden, he throws the book across the room. Enid quickly turns around and goes over to him. She asks him what is wrong, but he doesn't respond. He simply puts his head in his hands. Puzzled, Enid makes her way over to the book and picks it up. She flips through the pages as fast as she can in order to get to the last marked page. When she does reach it, she drops the book. She can’t believe it. There is no way. She turns her head towards Aeolus, who is now looking at her.
“I don’t understand,” she whispers. “This can’t be right. You’re not... What?”
“I’m sorry. This is all my fault.”
Enid sighs and goes over to him. Her arm wraps around his shoulders. “It’s not your fault.”
“Yes, it is. I was hoping that I wasn’t the oldest, but I am. It’s all my fault. You must hate me.”
“I don’t hate you. I just don’t understand why you didn’t tell me.”
“Because I didn’t want anyone to know. I didn’t want to be treated the way that my father did. I didn’t want to be hated. You don’t hate me do you? I never told you that I’m the air guardian, and it’s all my fault. I’m the oldest. I’m the one that turned eighteen. I’m the reason why they’re here and people are dying. It’s all my fault.”
“I don’t hate you, and it’s not your fault. They were going to come one way or another. My birthday is coming up too. Please don’t blame yourself. You’re always blaming yourself. Sometimes, it’s not your fault.”
“I’m sorry. I’ll try.”
“Now, let’s start finding everyone.”
“Right. The first guardian that we should track down is the guardian of earth. It says that she’s the daughter of two of the council members, so she should still be in town.”
“When we find her, how are we going to get to her with all of this going on right now?”
“We don’t. It’s too dangerous, and she’s probably in a safe place. We’ll go and get her tomorrow.”
“But what if something happens?!”
“What if something doesn’t, but we get killed because we got in the middle of all of this.”
“Well, you said that she’s safe, but what about the other two?”
“The water guardian should be fine. It says that she was raised by the members of the temple outside of the city. The fire guardian was raised in a poorer part of the city. I don’t think the attack has happened there yet. I truly don’t think that something is going to happen over night. This attack is mostly just to strike fear and weaken us. I don’t think they are at full power yet, so we have a chance. After this attack, they’ll need to rest. During that time, we’ll gather the other guardians and start getting a plan together, and since we have nothing to do right now, I say that we practice spells from our element. We need to make sure that we’re strong just in case we actually run into one of the children of the Darkness.”
“You’re right. I still don’t see why you put yourself down all the time, you’re so smart.”
“That’s just something I get from my mom, and she has prepared me a little for when this happened. I was hoping that it wasn’t because I was born first, but I guess that it was.”
“Well, it can be see as a good thing though. I’d have no idea what to do if you weren’t here with me. I’d probably get myself killed trying to find Dad and Daddy. I hope that they’re ok.”
“They’re probably with the other members of the council. Although thinking about them does make me worry. My mom is all I really have besides you. I don’t know what I would do without either of you. That’s why I have to protect you at all costs.”
Enid gives him a peck on the cheek. “I’m going to do whatever it takes to make sure that nothing happens to you too. You’re my best friend, and I will not lost my best friend. You’ve always been there for me, and I’ve always been there for you. Now, let’s practice. It’s not like the school has taught us much elemental spells.”

Notes

Sorry this was late. I had a headache, and I'm sorry this isn't as long. I didn't want it to be as long as two chapters, so I stopped it here. I actually almost forgot to put this up since when I got on, one of my stories had comments and I looked at those. Here it is though. I wanted Aeolus's secret about being the air guardian to last longer, but Enid would have found out when looking for the others. That, and he was upset about it as well. There is a reason why he judges himself. I'll have that come later.
Hope you liked it!
