I Won't Let You Choke On Your Misery
Chapter 15
All the bags were packed up; mine and Alice’s in her car and the boys’ in the tour bus.
“Well. I guess this is it then” Alex was the first to speak with a sad tone to his voice. He walked over to me, hugging my tightly.
“Look after yourself trouble”
“Bye Alex” he pulled away, ruffling my hair. Rian hugged me next.
“See you soon kiddo” I mumbled goodbye into his shoulder, trying to keep it together. I saw Zack and Alice saying goodbye in the corner of my eye, it was heart breaking. What was going to happen next was worse. Jack was stood in front of me, his eyes looking glassy and red. I threw my arms around him, pulling him in as close as possible. He buried his face in my hair resting on my shoulder. My eyes were stinging and a lump was building in my throat. I pulled away with a deep breath.
I moved my hands behind my neck, undoing the clasp of the necklace I was wearing. I held Jacks hand in mine, dropping the necklace in his palm. He looked up at me.
“It was a gift from my Dad-“Jack interrupted me.
“Rose, I can’t take this”
“You know how important this is to me”
“No. No way”
“If you take it now, it means you’ll have to come find me to return it.” My voice didn’t hold out towards the end, breaking as tears brimmed over. Jack’s eyes softened, he smiled crookedly at me.
“You’re so silly. I don’t need any more incentive to come find you. You’re not getting rid of me that easy!” He kissed my forehead, his lips lingered there for a while. Alex placed his hand on Jack’s shoulder.
“C’mon buddy.” His voice was soft. Jack exhaled deeply, resting his forehead against mine. He placed his hands on either side of my neck, pressing his lips to mine. He pulled away too soon and my face crumpled.
“Bye Jack.” I whispered.
Alice’s expression mirrored mine. I put my arm around her shoulders and she leaned into me. I put my hand in my pocket, something crunched in my hand. I pulled it out in confusion. On a scrunched up, torn bit of paper was eleven digits. It was Jack’s number. Sprawled on the otherside, it read:
'I'll sort it, promise xxx.'
