We drove back in silence. I wanted to be alone in my thoughts and I expected Alice did too, we could catch up tomorrow. I was too tired to talk anyway. Jack’s number felt heavy in my pocket, should I text him yet? Screw it. I took out my phone, punching in his number.
Rose: That was damn sneaky Barakat. I got a reply almost instantly.
Jack: I know, I’m a fucking ninja right? It made me laugh, gaining a strange look from Alice.
Rose: Too right, shame you’re so good at disappearing. I leant my head against the window, realising how heavy my eyes felt. These past two days had been so exhausting.

I woke up with the sun breaking through my curtains. I was in yesterday’s clothes lying over my covers. I must have fallen asleep in the car and gone to bed half asleep. I groaned, pulling myself upright. My clock read 1.40pm. I wasn’t surprised, I was so tired. I thought I’d better check on Alice.

She was in pretty much the same position as me, fully clothed asleep on the sofa. I knelt down in front of the sofa, brushing the hair from her face.
“Alice?” Her eyelids fluttered and she buried her face into her pillow groaning. I chuckled. Alice has never been a morning person.
“Coffee?” She simply grunted at me, I took that as a yes.

We sat under Alice’s duvet on the sofa, huddled together clutching our coffee mugs. Alice had woken herself up a bit.
“How crazy has all of this been? I feel like I have whiplash and need to catch up with myself” I totally agreed with her. It had all been a complete blur, and something told me it wasn’t over yet.
“Speaking of catching up, Zack. Spill! And don’t tell me I’m imagining things.” I nudged her on the arm playfully. A smile spread across her face.


“Well he’s beyond gorgeous, obviously! But there’s more to him than that. He’s so……” She stared into space, thinking. I could almost hear the cogs moving.

“So….?” I smiled at her.

“So….. something. I don’t know what it is.” She smiled to herself. She was so smitten.

“I know exactly how that feels.” She looked up at me. We sat smiling at each other; we could finally let our fan girls out of the closet we’d been keeping them. We slammed our mugs down, jumping up onto the sofa with a sudden burst of energy and screamed our heads off.

“ZACK FUCKING MERRICK!!” Alice jumped up and down, swinging her arms about. It was good to be stupid for a while. I jumped down, skidding across my floorboards and turned on the stereo. Weightless was on full blast, shaking the foundations of my house. Alice jumped down with the sofa with me and we threw ourselves around my lounge, I slid on my knees air guitaring like an idiot. Alice roared with laughter and copied me. The song hadn’t even finished when there was a knock on the door. I huffed, the neighbours. I pulled myself off of my knees and headed to the door.

“Turn the music off a minute” I called back to her.

“Where are you going Miss Rose? I was just getting warmed up!” I chuckled.

“Getting the door,” I turned the handle.

“And its Mrs Barakat to you!” I shouted back to her in a mock posh voice, pulling the door open and turning to face the wrath of my neighbours. Only it wasn’t who I was expected. I felt my face burst into flames as i looked into an all too familiar pair of brown eyes.

"Hello Mrs Barakat." A wide smile spread across Jack's face.
