Better Off This Way

Two

I woke up in Neil’s arms. The bus was stopped and everyone was still lying around in their own bunks. Well I assume that they are, considering that the curtain was closed and there wasn’t any noise. Neil’s chest was rising and falling as his faint snores hit the back of my neck. I have to admit that this was my happy place, just like this, every morning for the next two months. I checked my phone to see that it was already ten. Neil told me that their photographer would be stating in the same bus as well and that he was going to be here at 10:30. Well, maybe I should go make myself look presentable. I went into the bathroom to take a quick shower, thankfully their bus had one.

Once I felt clean enough, I got out and dried off the best that I could before slipping into the clean clothes that I had brought along into the bathroom. I hung the towel up on the rack and got my bag out from the cabinet. I applied some makeup and brushed my teeth. I got out of the bathroom in record time and I didn’t even leave a mess.

The photographer was here right on time, just like Neil had said. His name was Adam and I could already tell that I was going to like having him around. On the Brightside, Adam and I were both here for work, which meant that we could work alongside each other and maybe help out. I made an arrangement with him so that I would help write his blogs if I could use some of the pictures he took in the article I was going to write about the tour. We would credit each other of course because if we didn’t, that would just be silly.

I went about my day with some coffee in hand, exploring the area around the venue. All of the other buses were here but I guess nobody had left yet. I was making my way around when I saw a guy, very muscular might I add, lifting some weights behind a bus. He spotted me and shot me a sweet smile. I can’t be feeling butterflies from him, no way, I’m dating Neil. I smiled back at him and went back to the bus. I guess he was shy because he didn’t really make it a point to introduce himself.

Wow, he’s the shy one? You completely ran off and didn’t even give the guy a chance to say anything. Jesus, you may be in a relationship but you don’t have to feel awful when a guy smiles at you.

Yeah, that’s right. Maybe I should go back and introduce myself. Well it’s too late for that now.

“Where’ve you been all morning babe?” Neil was sitting on the couch with a skunk haired guy next to him.

“Oh, I just decided to go explore the venue before people were really up and running.” I shrugged.

“Well come here.” He patted a space next to himself. I sat down and he wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

“Blithe, this is Jack.” Neil gestured to the guy. “He’s the guitarist for All Time Low.”

“Yeah, it’s great to meet you.” I shook his hand.

“You too,” He smiled goofily. “So have you met the other guys yet?”

“Well I did see this guy working out.” I told him.

“Oh yeah, that’s Zack.” Jack nodded. “Did you guys talk?”

“Er, no.” I said. “I just kind of ran off.”

“What, why?” Neil laughed.

“I don’t know, he was all sweaty and he didn’t have a shirt on and I didn’t really feel like bothering him.” I could feel my face heat up with embarrassment.

“Well, he usually has the opposite effect on women.” Jack laughed.

“Hey now, you are talking to my girlfriend.” Neil got defensive.

“Didn’t mean to upset you man.” Jack laughed.

“Whatever you guys,” I stood up from the couch.

“No, don’t leave me!” Kevin pretended to whine and throw a fit.

“Don’t be such a baby,” I joked, “I thought I was dating a man.”

“She got you.” Jack laughed.

The day went by quickly and soon it would be time for the show. I decided to watch all of the performances, just so I could keep note of how each band performs uniquely. Right now the doors had just opened and I could see the kids already starting to pour in.

“Admiring the crowd?” Matt stood behind me.

“Yeah, there’s so many kids.” I turned around so I could see him as we conversed.

“Well why don’t you come backstage, the guys were looking for you.” He poked my arm.

“Which guys?” I asked.

“All of them, they want you to do a first night interview.” Matt laughed at me like I should’ve known this already.

“But I don’t have any questions prepared and I really don’t know much about each band.” I tried to reason with him.

“Don’t worry about making it personal or specific about each band, just ask generic questions or do a this or that interview. The fans always love those.” Matt smiled.

“Alright, looks like I’ll be coming up with some questions on the spot.” I shrugged and went backstage with Matt. I guess I would be interviewing All Time Low since they were going to be playing the earliest out of the three bands that I would be interviewing.

Jack, Alex, Rian and Zack were all sitting on a big couch that was in their dressing room. The only ones that I were really acquainted with so far were Jack and Zack, well okay, just Jack. I talked with him and just smiled at Zack, so I can’t really say that I know him.

“Hey guys,” I walked into the room, “Well I’m-”

“Blithe, we already know who you are.” Alex cut me off; at least he was polite about it. “Now come have a seat and bring on the questions.”

“Well, I don’t have any questions prepared and I don’t have a camera.” I tried to explain to them.

“Don’t worry about it,” Adam said from behind me, “I’ve got a free SD card and you can use my camera.”

“Thanks Adam.” I smiled and helped him set up the camera on its stand and then we got the mics all set up. Thankfully I took cinematography classes in high school so I kind of know what to do. He gave me a thumbs up so we could start recording.

“Hey guys it’s Blithe here with All Time Low. Can you introduce yourselves to those who might not already know who you are?” I started out strong.

“Yeah, well I’m Alex the singer.” He spoke into the mic.

“I’m Rian and I play drums.”

“Zack and I play bass.”

“I’m Jack and I say stupid things in between songs.”

“Well I think we’re going to do a simple round of this or that, I’m going to throw a few at you kind of like a rapid fire round. Are you guys ready?”

“Of course, shoot them at me.” Jack looked like he was bracing himself to be punched in the chest.

Notes

As promised, they were introduced! And it seems like Blithe got a great first impression, am I right? ;) And she's really jumping into the whole feelings thing... What's up with that?
