Long Distance Calls

Nine

I'm not going to lie, I felt guilty for being happy. I knew York was having issues trusting guys, I even served as a block when we went out together to let her have space to heal. But I always made her think I didn't know what was going on with her, but I did. And it was all Scott's fault York can't be open with guys now.

"So when do you go back to school," Alex asked while we sat around in my room. I had Alex over because I guess he and I were officially hooked up together. To be honest, I loved being around him now that I gave him a chance. I haven't dated anyone since high school and I needed to have someone in my life again. I seriously have to thank York for introducing us, even though we had a rough start.

"I go back in a week," I told him, "When do you go out on tour?"

"Three weeks from now," he replied, "I'm going to make us work, Abs. I really want to have a relationship that is serious and I can hold onto for a long time."

"I know, I'll just have to juggle us and my school work," I told him.

"We can call, Skype, and text every chance we can while I'm on the road. I can visit you during the day when we're in town during the tour so we can send time together, even if it's just helping you study," he continued.

"Can we not talk about the future right now," I told him as I crawled across my floor to sit next to him, nestling into his side, "I just want to spend the day with you and get to know you better, Alex."

"I can live with that," Alex replied as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Where are we going, Alex," I asked as he drove. Alex had me dress really nice tonight, so I wore a navy blue lace skater dress and some basic black pumps with matching jewelry.

"It's a surprise," he replied, reaching across his console to take my hand in his, "I promise you'll like it."

Alex finally pulled the car into a parking lot and killed the engine once he had parked in a good spot. He quickly go out of the car and ran around to help me out on my side. I smiled and blushed at him being so nice tonight. I guess York was right when Alex and I were perfect for each other. I was a romantic and I liked it when a guy was a gentleman to me and did little things to make me feel special.

Alex took my hand and led me inside of a small bistro. It felt cozy and I had a feeling that the place was a family owned joint. Alex guided me over to the hostess podium.

"Reservation," the hostess asked.

"Gaskarth, table for two," Alex replied.

"You're table is ready for you," she said as she grabbed two menus, "Follow me please."

Alex led me by my hand after the hostess. She took us to the very back of the bistro, into an isolated corner of the dining area. This meant we'd have our own space to just have a nice dinner without distractions.

Alex and I talked about how he's spent his time out of high school and how much he enjoyed tour. I smiled and laughed at the antics that ensued during their tours. But inside I felt a pang of sadness. I knew that in about three weeks, Alex would be leaving for tour. And my biggest fear and leading cause of some of my anxiety attacks was being alone.
