Long Distance Calls

Seven

Jack made me sit between him and York as Alex and Rian sat across from York and I. Matt sat at the head of the table and Vinny was across from Jack. Zack took the last seat at the opposite end of Matt. I would glance up from my food to find Alex smiling nicely at me, making me smile in return. He was being really sweet tonight. He was funny and rather charming. I guess Rian had told him to try being somewhat charming tonight to make up for the party last week end.

"So Abbey, you're a college student full time," Rian asked, "What's your major?"

"I'm a photography and music business management double major," I replied.

"Are you out of school for the summer," Matt asked.

"I'm only out of school for two weeks. I'm going back for the spring and summer to tackle some gen eds I haven't taken yet at Maryland," I told them.

"She's really smart, but she did somethings wrong with budgeting her time when she got to college, but now she overworks herself to the point that she can be sensitive to her anxiety triggers," York shared.

"But at least you're dedicated to finishing school," Alex smiled at me, making me smile and blush a little.

After dinner, everyone went their separate ways around Jack's house. Alex and I were alone outside on the patio by his pool. The evening air was a little chilly and my cardigan wasn't really helping me out.

"Here," Alex took his jacket off and draped it over my shoulders.

"Thanks," I replied quietly as I sat down in one of the patio chairs.

"I want to apologize for the party. I didn't mean to be such an ass to you. I guess I deserved getting your drink thrown into my face," Alex looked down at his hands as he sat down by me.

"I guess I've been overreacting these last couple days. I'm sorry for being so harsh to you," I told him.

"No harm done, Abbey," Alex smiled sweetly at me. God he was gorgeous. His nose would crinkle up a little when he smiled and he had the best dimples I've seen on a guy. He's just like how I remembered him in high school. The only differences were his three tattoos, his hair, and his taste in fashion.

"You changed a lot since high school," I pointed out, "You got even more handsome after you graduated."

"Thanks," he replied, "To be honest I hardly remember high school so I have no idea on how you were. Plus you were three years under us too."

"You never noticed me," I told him, "I had braces and glasses back then. I was awkward and very shy with lots of anxiety issues."

"Well then you got a lot more beautiful since you graduated," Alex whispered before he kissed my cheek.

When he pulled back from my cheek and looked into my eyes, I saw he wanted to kiss me for real. I took hold of his hands, letting him know it was okay. When his lips met mine, it felt like fireworks erupted in my heart. I couldn't resist wrapping my arms around his neck and playing with is hair with my fingers.
