Long Distance Calls

Six

After the car was in park, both girls sat in silence for a moment. York knew that Abbey was freaking out, only instead of showing it, she kept it inside like usual. Abbey was the first to move, unbuckling her seatbelt and opening the car door. York followed after a moments more pause and grabbed the bottle of wine that they had brought with them, being Abbey's suggestion. Walking up to the door it opened before they could even knock, finding a nervous looking Alex standing there. York said a quick hi to the singer before quickly rushing into the house in search of Rian, leaving Alex and Abbey alone to talk. Crossing her fingers that it would actually help instead of hinder.

"York!" Jack yelled as she entered the kitchen finding him sitting at the island in the middle of the room playing with the bowl of fruit in front of him. "RIAN! YORK IS HERE!"

"Whoa buddy, I think the whole world heard you." She said as he hopped off the stool and hugged her before taking the bottle of wine from him. "How are you Jacko?"

Jack shrugged as he looked up when the door to the kitchen opened and Rian walked in with a huge grin on his face. "Hey York, looks like Abbey and Alex are actually hitting it off. They're laughing and talking civilly."

"Are you serious!?" York asked, rushing towards the door and peaking out to see.

Sure enough there was Alex and Abbey standing in the living room. Alex was waving his hands in the air while Abbey was laughing at whatever he was saying. She could feel a presence behind her and knew without looking that it was Rian. Suddenly Abbey turned towards the door and York quickly hid behind the wall so that she wouldn't be caught. Rian and her grinned at each other for a moment before he grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the door and to the stair case.

"C'mon, I have something for you."

She simply nodded and let him led her up the stairs and down the hall to his room. Once they were inside, Rian let go of her in favor of going to his desk to get something. She looked around the familiar room. The bed, dresser, posters, and photos were all the same, nothing had changed in the months since she had been there.

"My mom found this the other day and wanted me to give it to you." He said, pulling her from her thoughts, she looked down to see that he was holding an old looking book.

She gave a wide smile and took the book from him and gently touched the cover. "Tell Mama Dawson I say thank you. I'm going to start reading it as soon as I get home."
Rian was about to say something but was cut off when Jack's loud voice carried upstairs yelling that Zack and Matt were there and that they were going to eat without them if they didn't hurry. So they both left, turning towards the hall and walking down stairs to join their friends. York held the book close to her and prayed that the night actually went well. But only time would tell.
