Long Distance Calls

Fifteen

Rian cautiously knocked on Yorks door and waited even though he knew that he wouldn't hear a reply. After a few moments he slowly twisted the knob and opened the door. What he found on the other side of the door was something to be expected. York was lying in a ball on the bed with her back turned to the door. Her room was actually clean unlike it usually was, which told him that she was trying to keep her mind busy so she didn't keep thinking about what ever it was that was that was making her upset.

Walking inside the room and closing the door behind him, York didn't move or make any indication that he was there. So he continued knowing that if he wasn't welcome by now she would have said something. When he reached the bed he simply climbed into it and lay down, keeping some distance between them so that he didn't cross any boundries. Usually they wouldn't mind being in the same bed, let alone not having any space between them. But Rian honestly had no idea what was going on with York and didn't want to push her farther away than she already made herself. But after a few moments of her being completely still, she was suddenly moving, rolling over to face him and cuddling as close as she could. Rian moved instantly, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her impossibly closer as she began to cry. Neither of them said anything, at the fact that she was. She didn't try to apologize for her embarrassing display -even though Rian didn't mind in the least- and he didn't try to make it better. Sometimes it was just better to just let them get it out. And that's exaclty what he did.

After a while, she finally calmed down enough that her breathing was back to normal and was slowly releasing the iron grip she had on his shirt. She looked up, sheepish look on her face and he just pulled her tighter to him and kissed her forehead.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He whispered, as if talking any longer would make her start to cry again.

But she didn't. All she did was break their eye contact, looking down to her bare arm where a few visible scars from that bastard. Instantly he knew that that was part of the problem without her saying anything. But he wasn't going to say that out loud since he wanted her to say it first. For her to finally open up about what was going on with her.

Finally, she looked up. Blue eyes meeting brown as she slowly began to nod. He waited patiently until she took a deep breath and began.
