Twenty-two.
Ashley POV:
I took my phone out of my purse after I got back from Starbucks for my daily coffee in the morning and texted Emily.
To: Em
Hope you didn't forget about our plans for today. I'm picking you up in an hour!
My phone buzzed only a minute later.
From: Em
Oh, crap! Thanks for the reminder.
I chuckled at her response and put my phone back in my purse. I walked upstairs to take a shower, since I hadn't done that yet today. I took my clothes off and stepped into the hot shower. I let the water warm my cold body while I thought about Alex. After we had posted the Keek, the news had spread very fast. We both couldn't believe our eyes when we checked Twitter that morning. Everyone was sending us congratulations tweets and even our 'ship name' Aley was trending for a while. People were also sending us suggestions for baby names and we laughed because the names that were send in the most were Maria, Jasey Rae and Holly. Also Brooklyn and Stella made the top list. It was unbelievable but we were both very happy about all the positive reactions. We had made another Keek to thank everyone and also replied to some tweets. But there was also one thing that I didn't really like about all this. Since the world knew that we were expecting a baby, I couldn't go outside anymore without fans coming up to me to congratulate me and asking me how I was doing. I like Alex' fans, don't get me wrong, but I'm just not really the type of girl that likes a lot of attention. The fans were not the worst thing, they were always friendly and nice to talk with. It was the paparazzi that could really get on my nerves. Oh well, that's the negative side of dating a rockstar I guess..
Alex had been on tour now for more than 2 weeks already and fuck, I missed him so much. But I would see him again, soon, only he didn't know that yet. His birthday was tomorrow and I would surprise him by coming all the way to Nashville to celebrate it with him. Emily would come with me and this afternoon we were going shopping, because I still needed to buy Alex a birthday present. I had no idea what to buy him, after he had given me the most amazing present ever. I'd read in the small notebook a lot while he was gone, but I hadn't finished it yet. My eyes always lingered on the sentences where he wrote he was in love with me and it amazed me that he never told me.
After I had put on some clothes and did my hair and make-up, I grabbed my purse and Alex' cars keys (since I had no car here and Alex didn't need his on tour, I always used his) and drove to Emily's place.
When I rang the doorbell, she opened the door with her shoes in one hand and her purse in the other. "I'll do this in the car, let's go!" She walked towards the car on her socks. I frowned at her but shrugged and followed her towards the car. I started the engine and laughed at Emily who was tying her shoes. "What? I only had an hour." she complained. "That's not my fault." She sighed and looked at me. "Do you already know what you're going to get him?" she asked. "No. I have no idea at all.." I answered. "It has to be something really cool. I mean, after the present he gave you.." I had told Emily about the diary, but I hadn't showed her. It was something between Alex and me and it felt like betrayal to let Emily read in it. I'd also told her about the last page though, the 'forbidden' last page that I couldn't read yet. She thought it was romantic and mysterious, but we actually never really talked about it because I didn't want to get curious and read it. "Yeah, something really cool.." I mumbled and sighed.
I parked the car somewhere just outside the shopping streets of Baltimore and I walked with Emily through the busy streets. I had no idea where to go exactly because I was still thinking about what on earth I would get him. We were just walking down the street when I suddenly thought of something. I had heard Alex say that he wanted the new iPhone 5, since his iPhone 4S was full of scratches because he had already dropped it so often. I pulled on Emily's arm and turned around. "C'mon, this way!" "Oh, you finally know what you're going to buy him?" she asked and walked with me. "Yup." I smiled and stopped at the entrance of the store I had been looking for. "Let me guess. A new iPhone?" She asked. I nodded and we walked inside.
"Can I help you?" A bald man with a beard asked us. "Yes, uhm. I would like to buy an iPhone 5 if you still have them?" The man stroked his beard. "You're lucky, they're almost sold out. What color do you want?" "Black, please." I said. He nodded his head and disappeared behind the large counter. "Here it is." he said and handed me the small box with the black iPhone in it. He gave me some basic information about the phone and I paid him. "Thank you." I said when we walked back out of the store.
After a while we were both getting hungry so we ordered a sandwich at Subway. When we were done eating, we walked to a clothing store because I also wanted to buy Alex a new beanie. I thought he was absolutely adorable when he was wearing a beanie and Emily agreed that it was a good idea. She helped me choose one and when I wanted to pay for it, she pulled on my arm. "Come with me, there's one more thing that you need to surprise him tomorrow." she chuckled and I rolled my eyes at her when we were standing at the side of the store where all the women's lingerie was. "Emily.." I sighed. "Ashley, he will like this even more than that beanie and iPhone, and you know it." Actually, this wasn't such a bad idea. We hadn't seen each other in almost 3 weeks and birthday sex was always good. I mean, it's always hard when he's on tour, not seeing each other for months.. So it was nice that we could spend some quality time together tomorrow night. "Try this." Emily said, handing me a cute set. I grinned and took it from her, walking towards the fitting room to try it on.
"Okay, that is like super hot." Emily said with a huge grin on her face when I showed her my lingerie. "I think I'm going to buy it." I said. "You have to buy it!" I laughed and closed the curtain again to change back into my clothes.
"I'm a bit jealous, you know." Emily winked at me when we walked back to the car. "Because?" "Because when I'm sitting next to the love of my life tomorrow as just a friend, you are having some hot, steamy sex with your boyfriend." I stopped walking and looked at her. "Em, just tell him about your feelings. You know he feels the same way, why can't you just give him another chance?" "I just can't, it's a bad idea, okay?" "Em, you should really-" I stopped in the middle of my sentence because I got interrupted by some girl who walked up to me. "Hey you! Ashley Sparks, isn't it?" It was a tiny girl with brown, curly hair and I recognized her of something but I couldn't tell where I'd seen her before. She had this look on her face, not friendly at all and I wondered what I'd done wrong. "Yeah, that's me." I answered. "So, you're starting a little family with Alex? How cute!" I could see she was totally being sarcastic and it annoyed me. Who the hell was this bitch? "Yeah well, I don't have time for this now." I told her and wanted to walk away, but she blocked my way. "It won't take long." "Lisa, let's just go.." The girl that was with her -a friend of hers, probably- said. And then I remembered where I'd seen her before. She was Lisa Ruocco, Alex' ex-girlfriend. Damn, she was so pretty. She ignored the other girl and locked eyes with me. "I will get him back. I always do." she threatened. "Wish him a happy birthday!" She laughed with a perfect but mean smile while walking away. When she was out of sight, tears were filling my eyes. How could she be so mean? I have never done anything to her, it's not my fault that Alex likes me, right? Em put her arms around me. "Hey, don't let her get to you. She's a mean fucking bitch, no wonder why Alex broke up with her." I wiped away my tears and took my car keys out of my purse to open it. "Let's go home."
