Manage Me

I Hate Missing You

When Alex got home from tour, I was back living with him. It was almost like we'd never dated.

When he pulled up in his stupid Audi, he strutted in the house, yes he actually did strut, and stopped in front of my place on the couch.

"Well, don't I get a hug?" he asked, opening his arms. I sighed and went to hug him. He put his arms around me and reached down to pinch my ass. I flinched and he laughed.

"What's the matter?" he asked.

"Nothing." I replied quickly, holding back the stream of vulgar names I wanted so badly to call him.

"Good." he smirked and headed to his room. "Can you bring in my bags?" he asked after himself. I didn't answer. I just brought in his bags like I'd been asked.

"Thank you." he mumbled and I froze. What?

"What did you say to me?" I asked.

"Thank. You." he said slowly.

"You don't mean it." I stated. I knew him too well. I just left him in his room and went to my own. I plopped down on my bed. Alex walked in and stood in the doorway, leaning against its frame.

"You really think I don't mean it? A simple 'thank you' for bringing in my bags?" he asked.

"No, I don't." I replied.

"Then you've obviously got a lot to learn about me." he sighed. I got up off the bed and put on my shoes. "Now where are you going?" he asked warily.

"To pick up the dogs from your Aunt Maggie's." I replied.

"Do you still remember the way?" he asked.

"Yeah." I sighed.

"Can I come with you?" he asked. He moved so he was standing in front of me and we were face to face. He put his forehead against mine. "Please?" he breathed. I couldn't say no. Not when he was this close to me. I just nodded.

We got into his car and he put on a Death Cab For Cutie CD quietly, eying me for approval. I just looked away from him and out the window.

"Look, I know you're mad, furious even, and I'm so sorry for what I did to you." he whispered.

"Uh huh." I mumbled, trying to sleep within the forty-five minute drive to his aunt's.

"We're here." he stated when we arrived. We got out of the car and knocked on the door.

"Brooke, Alex, come in!" Alex's aunt smiled. We did as she said and Peyton and Sebastian bounded up to us and jumped all over us. We laughed and petted them.

"Were they good?" I asked.

"Yes, perfect." his aunt assured. We sat down in the living room. "So, how's your relationship going?" she asked. Alex gulped and we both fidgeted in our places on the couch.

"We uhm," Alex started, clearing his throat. "I-I cheated on her." he croaked. She nodded shortly, dropping the subject. Soon, it was time for us to head home.

"Alex." I started, looking out my window.

"Uh huh?" he asked.

"Why'd you get all nervous when your aunt asked about us? I don't think I've seen you more unsure in all the time I've known you." I told him.

"Well I didn't want my aunt finding out what an unfaithful Alex ass I am. But also, as much as it hurts you, it hurts me too. I mean, I loved you Brooke and I still do, but I got drunk and I fucked up. I've never regretted anything in my life as much as I regret giving you up. Not since--" he replied, but cut himself off. I could see his agonized expression in the rearview mirror, even though his gaze was intent on the road.

"Not since what?" I asked, trying to make my voice low and comforting so he'd tell me.

"My brother." he choked.

"Pull over." I commanded and he did as he was told. Once he'd pulled over on the shoulder, I hugged him and held him as he cried. After a while, he gave one final sniffle, wiped his eyes and backed out of my embrace.

"Thanks. It's just, I haven't thought about it in a while and it just came up so suddenly." he explained, starting drive again.

"But you're okay now, right?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine" he started, but was cut off by the squeal of tires.

"Look out!" I screamed, but it was too late. A big truck skidded at us, head on. The last thing I saw was its bright lights engulfing my sight.

I've been stumbling across stories I've read, and checking them out again since I seem to forget them after it's been a while. This was one of those cases.
Reading this again, and after reading other stories on here and Mibba, I've realized that with my last comment, I was a bit off. Yes, Brooke and Alex's relationship was cute when they were together/sweet to each other, but reading it again, their relationship was a bit abusive. Neither is completely innocent, but the version of Alex you wrote in this took it to the next level. I realize a lot of it was because of his insecurities, what he dealt with in the past, etc., but Brooke didn't deserve any of that. When she did mess up, she definitely didn't take her anger to the levels he did.
Idk, I'm conflicted because again, when they were together, it was cute, but then it just got sad when they weren't. I'm not sure why she put up with as much as she did.
Your writing is still good, though. Just wish they didn't have so many downs in their relationship. It got really sad at a lot of points, and I just felt Alex didn't need to take it to the degree he did, I mean really.
I doubt you saw my other comment, but just thought I would comment again as an update and to possibly get you to see it.
