Can't Stop Won't Stop

We Shouldn't Have To Bear Alone

"How have you been?" Alex asked, as they sat together on the small park bench. The smile that Jack was sporting faltered, as his face fell.

"Not to good." He said truthfully, earning a confused look from Alex. He scooted closer, wrapping his arm around Jack's shoulders.

"Why not?" He asked, although he had a pretty good idea as to why. Jack sighed heavily, turning to look Alex in the eyes.

"You were taken from me, Lex." He simply said, dropping his eyes once more to his hands. Alex nodded, remembering that day all too well. He wouldn't have remembered if he were alone, but now that Jack was here the memories rushed back. He pushed them to the back of his mind, as he tried to reassure Jack.

"Well, you found me. Just like you promised you would." He said, earning a sad smile from the younger male.

"Yeah, but I was too late." He said quietly, Alex's smile replaced by a frown.

“I’m sorry, Jack.” He said, barely a whisper. He hadn’t even though Jack had heard him, until he placed his hand on his knee.

“It’s okay, Alex. I’m just glad you’re happy.” Jack said, making Alex tense up a little. If only Jack knew Alex wasn’t happy. He and Jeff never spoke much, and when they did it was for a few minutes. When they hung out, it was just for a quick fuck before he had to be off to work again. Jeff was probably fucking people behind Alex’s back, but he was the closet thing he could get to happy.

“Yeah, me too.” He said sadly, looking down at the ground. “So, why are you here in Boston?” Alex asked, trying to change the subject.

“I live here now, just 15 minutes outside of the city by foot.” Jack said, scratching idly at his elbow.

“Oh, so we’ll be seeing more of each other I hope.” Alex said, a smile pulling at the corner of his mouth. Jack smiled back, and nodded. “Well, what are you doing now? Want to go to a movie or something?” Alex asked, a hopeful look in his eyes. Jack just couldn’t say no.

“Yeah, I’ve been dying to see that new movie that just came out on friday.” Jack said, standing up, and pulling Alex up with him.

“Alright, well there’s a showing in two hours. What do you want to do until then?” Alex asked. Jack shrugged, before he started to walk.

“How about we go to the music store. I need some new CD’s. My collection is low.” He said, skipping off, Alex following closely behind.

The music store was crowded, the most Alex had ever seen it in his three years of living in Boston. The two males pushed their way through the large crowd, making their way to the section they came for. Jack scanned through the CD’s, stopping when he found the one he was looking for.

“Ah, the most recent Blink CD. The only one I’m missing.” He said proudly, clutching it tightly as he scanned through the other CD’s incase he wanted another one. He settled on just the one Blink-182 CD, and went to the cashier paid for it, smiling as she handed him the change. The large crowd of people was dying down, so they had to push their way to the door as they had when they first came in. When they finally got outside, Jack turned to Alex with a grin on his face.

“What?” Alex asked, grinning as well. Jack shrugged, turning away to begin walking towards the cinema.

“Oh nothing, just really happy.” He said, peering behind him to catch Alex’s eye. Alex began to walk faster so he could catch up to Jack, and when he did he threw his arm around his neck.

“Yeah, me too.” He said. The rest of the walk to the theatre was silent, but it was a comfortable silence.

“Two for Sinister, please.” Alex said, giving the man behind the counter the right amount of change. He handed him the two tickets, and Alex smiled in thanks before turning to Jack. “Do you want any snacks?” He asked. Jack shook his head.

“I’ll pay for the snacks, you bought the tickets.” He offered, smiling as he pulled out his wallet. “Don’t try to say no, cause I’m buying the snacks.” He said, walking off toward the concession. He bought a large bag of popcorn, and two small coke-a-colas, before returning to Alex. “Here.” He said, handing him the soda.

They made their way into the theatre, sitting near the back.

“I heard this movie is terrifying.” Alex said, smiling. Jack set his drink down, and swallowed nervously.

“T-Terrifying?” He asked warily. Alex nodded.

“Awh, is Jacky afraid of a movie?” He cooed, punching his arm lightly. Jack narrowed his eyes at Alex, and glared at him. He chuckled, before placing his hand on Jacks knee and giving it a reassuring squeeze. “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” He said, turning back to the screen. He took a handful of popcorn, shoving it in his mouth, and chasing it down with his soda before turning back to Jack.

“You better.” Jack growled. Alex laughed, throwing a piece of popcorn at Jack. It hit his nose, and Alex burst out into laughter. “Oh, that’s it.” Jack said, a smile playing on his lips. He grabbed a handful of popcorn and threw it Alex, and then bounded over the arm rest tackling him the best he could in a theatre chair. Jack was practically straddling Alex at this point, the two males laughing uncontrollably. The laughter died down after a short minute, and Jack was still on top of Alex. His breath hitched in his throat when he realized this, and he scrambled off as fast as he could. “I’m so sorry.” He mumbled, when he was in his own seat again. Alex only chuckled.

“Jack, it’s alright.” Alex reassured, taking his hand in his own. Jack could feel the butterflies begin to stir in his stomach. He looked down at there interlocked fingers, and then back up at Alex.

“You have a boyfriend, Lex.” Jack said, trying to pull his fingers away. Alex only held on tighter.

“So, that doesn’t mean I can’t hold your hand. It’s not like I’m cheating or anything.” Alex said, his voice cracking when he said the word cheating. He hoped Jack hadn’t caught on, and sighed with relief when he realized he hadn’t. Jack calmed down, and held tighter to Alex’s hand as the theatre went dark, and the movie flashed onto the screen. Jack looked down at their intertwined fingers again, smiling to himself. He was happy for once, in a long time.
